UF SCHOOL OF THEATRE + DANCE The Florida Legislature designated UF as a “preeminent” university in the spring of 2013 and allocated $15 million annually to UF for five years to support the university in its goal of joining the nation’s top ten public universities. Outstanding students, faculty, programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities have made UF one of the nation’s best universities, public or private, and one of the best values. At the College of the Arts, we implement these standards into a creative environment suited to produce artists, performers, scholars, teachers and practitioners who combine academic and professional excellence.

Theatre Performance

This curriculum is designed to prepare thinking performers for careers in theatre. Based in a top-tier university setting requiring academic mastery of a broad range of requirements, the acting and musical theatre curricula follow a conservatory approach to creating the performing artist, combining classroom training with rehearsal and performance in varying productions to develop the ability to perform in a range of roles and genres.

Theatre Production

This curriculum is designed to meet the diverse artistic and technological demands of contemporary professional theatre. Today’s theatre design and production depend heavily on the complex digital, electronic and mechanical systems used in professional theatres. At the School of Theatre + Dance, you will work with faculty on the cutting edge of theatrical design and utilize the very latest technology in our state-of-art facilities.

Dance

This curriculum emphasizes four complementary areas of study: composition and performance, intercultural dance studies, dance and medicine, and dance theatre. The program trains dancers and choreographers using an inclusive interpretation of contemporary dance as a major performing art impacting a broad range of artistic, cultural, intellectual and social spheres.

“UF gave me the confidence to belive in myself. I also realized that I have a love for academia that I didn’t really appreciate when I was in undergrad. Theatre is something I went to school for. I have a love for it, and I don’t think there’s anything else like it. I feel like I’m telling an entire story, which is difficult to do in television and film.” USMAN ALLY
