Mrs Catherine Skinner MBE Catherine Skinner of Fearn, a member of Balintore UF, has been awarded an MBE in the Birthday 2010 Honours List. The award is for services to the community over more than 40 years. Her contribution to the lives of others has included making clothes for handicapped children under the care of Capability Scotland, collecting for and supporting the work of Alba Aid in Croatia and the Ekwendeni Hospital in Africa, the Leprosy Mission and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. For over 40 years she has supported the work of Macmillan Cancer Support, serving as Chairperson of the Easter Ross Branch from 1980 to 2009. In that time she has raised over £400,000; one all day market at Dingwall Livestock and Auction Mart raised £106,000 which was used to furnish the Macmillan suite in the Raigmore Oncology and Chemotherapy Department. She regularly helps in this unit, serving and looking after patients and their relatives.

She was awarded both the Hugh Dundas Volunteer of the Year Award and a Highly Commended award in the Third Sector Excellence Awards in 2009. She has also been actively involved in the church all her life. She ran a Sunday School for local children in her home before teaching Sunday School in Fearn Abbey for 40 years. Catherine is now fully involved in the life of Balintore UF. She currently runs a ladies’ Bible Study in her home each week, and has been a volunteer in the Blythswood Tain Christian Book Shop for some 25 years.
