UEL Launches India Impact Report and Hackathon Initiative
This month, UEL launched its India Impact Report With India's ambitious vision for economic growth and development, it is essential that the UK remains a trusted partner and ally, working together to unlock the full potential of this dynamic relationship
The careers-focused education offered by UEL can significantly contribute to India's economic development Students can use their skills and knowledge upon returning home or develop opportunities through newly acquired entrepreneurial and business links Moreover, partnerships between Indian and UK universities extend beyond academics, influencing policymaking, and driving research and innovation in key areas For instance, India is the fourth-largest producer of renewable energy and solar power in the world Collaborative research and development between Indian and UK universities can leverage shared expertise to address pressing environmental challenges, from climate change to sustainable development
One in 20 Indian students in the UK is now studying at UEL This highlights the university's critical role in this bilateral relationship UEL’s role is essential for addressing global challenges and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals This report demonstrates the profound and far-reaching benefits of the relationship between UEL and India's students, researchers, citizens, employers, and government As part of its leading role in UK and India relations and commitment to the careers first strategy, 22 UEL Computer Science and Engineering students engaged in a ‘hackathon’ and tour of the Chennai Industrial Region The students were selected through a competitive recruitment process This key employers visit was organised in partnership with the Tamil Nadu government's WorkLabs unit and the Tamil Nadu Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing (TANCAM)
This groundbreaking initiative provided students with the unique opportunity to interface directly with top employers in India The event, part of UEL’s Year of Science programme, will offer winners of the hackathon a 4–6 week work placement with one of the participating industry partners This is a vital component of UEL’s Careers and Enterprise strategy and highlights UEL as one of the UK’s top careers universities It is also the first in a series of talent pathways UEL is planning for Tamil Nadu and other states in India.
