Season ฤดูกาล แห่งมะม่วง When entering the summer the most popular seasonal fruit is "Mango". Did you know! Udon Thani is the source and the most exported of Nam Dok Mai mangoes is in Kut Mak Fai Subdistrict and Oub Mung Subdistrict, Nong Wua So District, Udon Thani, which is only 60 kilometers from the city, with a total area of over 7,000 rai of Nam Dok Mai mangoes. Nowadays, villagers are turning to mango orchards more and more. Until becoming a good thing in the district is the cultivation of mangos for sale and export to foreign countries. And the province has also supported agriculture by organizing the "Mango Fair" which is held on 1-3 March every year.

เมือ่ เขาสูฤ ดูรอ น ผลไมตามฤดูกาลสุดฮิตคงหนี ไมพน “มะมวง” รูหรือไม! จ.อุดรธานี คือ แหลงผลิตและสงออกมะมวงน้ำดอกไมมาก ที ่ ส ุ ด อยู ใ น ต.กุ ด หมากไฟ และ ต.อู บ มุ ง อ.หนองวัวซอ จ.อุดรธานี ซึ่งหางจากตัวเมือง 60 กิโลเมตร มีพน้ื ทีป่ ลูกมะมวงน้ำดอกไม รวม กวา 7,000 ไร ในปจจุบนั ชาวบานหันมาทำสวนมะมวงกันมาก ขึ้น จนกลายเปนของดีประจำตำบล คือ การ ปลูกมะมวงเพื่อจำหนายและสงออกไปยังตาง ประเทศ และทางจังหวัดยังไดมีการสนับสนุน เกษตรโดยการจัดงาน “มะมวงแฟร” ซึง่ จัดงาน ในวันที่ 1-3 มีนาคม ของทุกป

The distinguishing feature of the Golden Nam Dok Mai mango is that it has a golden yellow skin even though the fruit is not ripe yet. The skin is beautiful, so it is called Nam Dok Mai Thong. The market demand for these is high, so the price is for these is higher than that of other mangoes which are in season from March to May. Off-season mangoes are harvested throughout the year, but the taste may not be as sweet as as mangoes harvested during the season. But regardless, we will have mangoes to eat all year round.
ลักษณะเดนของมะมวงน้ำดอกไมสที อง คือ มี ผิวสีเหลืองทองในขณะที่ผลยังไมสุก ผิวสวย จึงถูกเรียกชื่อวาน้ำดอกไมสีทอง และความ ตองการของตลาดมีมาก ราคาดีกวามะมวงชนิด อื่นๆ ซึ่งจะเริ่มใหผลผลิตในฤดูตั้งแตเดือน มีนาคม จนถึงพฤษภาคม และหลังจากนั้น ก็ จะเปนการทำมะมวงนอกฤดู ซึ่งจะมีการเก็บ เกีย่ วตลอดทัง้ ป แตรสชาติอาจไมหวานเทาใน ฤดู แตเราก็จะมีมะมวงน้ำดอกไมทานตลอด นอกจากจะทานมะมวงเปนผลไมสุกแลวยังได มีการนำเอามะมวงมาแปรรูปเปนผลิตภัณฑ อาหารตางๆ เชน มะมวงกวน มะมวงอบแหง ซอสมะมวง ไอศครีมมะมวง ขาวเหนียวมะมวง เปนตน

งานมหกรรมพืชสวนโลก 2569 อุดรธานี Thailand has been chosen to host the International Horticultural Expo 2026 in Udon Thani. It will be the first landmark global event in the Greater Mekong Subregion. The mega-event will feature the theme “Diversity of Life: Connecting Water, Plants, and People for Sustainable Living,” citing the site’s unique wetland area and the special connection between water, natural resources, and the people living in it.

Getting around Udon is both easy and cheap. Samlors (also called tuk-tuks) are three wheeled motorcycles with a place to sit in the back, -- hire them the same way as taxis. Motorcycle taxis are what you would expect, -- ride on the back of a motorcycle that takes you exactly where you want to go.

Udon Thani is the second largest city in northeast Thailand. Formerly known as Ban Makkaeng, Udon Thani was first settled as a military base led by Prince Prajak to crack down on a minority uprising in the northeastern state. The province contains several tourist attractions including Ban Chiang (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Phu Phra Bat Historical Park. Wat Pa Phu Kon วัดปาภูกอ น Here you will find a large, marble, reclining Buddha statue, approximately 20 meters long. The cost for the temple complex, 320 million baht, was donated by a woman who believed that she saw a profile of the Reclining Buddha in the shapes of the mountain ridges, and was inspired by it. The temple is located in a thousand rai forest.

There is a lotus shaped chapel in Ban Chiang, Nong Han, Udon Thani. The chapel sits in the middle of a lake, here, just a couple of kilometers from the Ban Chiang historical site and museum. It’s the only lotus shaped structure like it in Thailand.

About 18 km. from -Udon is a series of flower villages, sort of like large outdoor greenhouses. There are more the 30 different types of flowers to see here, take beautiful pictures, and buy to take home.

A beautiful 76,000 acre park located on a plateau about 75 minutes from Udon. Along with all the usual things you would expect to find in a park, you will find numerous full-sized statues of dinosaurs!!

Kham Chanot is a beautiful and dense deciduous forest and temple 75 km from Udon Thani. It is said to be home to Naga, a snake-like serpent that made its way here via underground tunnels from the Mekong River.

Phu Phra Bat Historical Park covers around 1,200 acres. In addition to the beautiful landscape, caves and caverns, rocks of different sizes and shapes dot the area. Pre-historic cave paintings have also been discovered.

Red Lotus Lake

The Red Lotus Lake is about 45 minutes by car from Udon city to Baan Diam Piar, the most popular tourist spot. The lotus plants will bloom between December and March of each year. The plants bloom from the early morning until about 11 am.
Shopping in Udon Thani For general shopping head to the fountain circle area. Here you will find a wholesale clothing market, gold shops, Chinese medicine shops and handicraft shops. Udon boasts some excellent night markets to the north and south of the train station area. They are open from early evening until 11pm every night and sell everything from clothes and food to gifts and gadgets. Each market has its own beer garden area with live music and nightly entertainment. For indoor, air-conditioned shopping, Central Plaza offers a good selection of shops and restaurants. UD Town, near the train station, is an attractive open air shopping street with a good selection of restaurants. On the eastern ring road you will find a new fully air-conditioned clothing factory outlet. For DIY, building accessories and furniture, check out Global House, Home Pro, Tool Pro and the Index Living Mall on the eastern Ring Road. Udon has several supermarkets such as Big C, Tesco Lotus, Tang Ngee Soon, Makro and Topps.

Natural Stone Bridge is located in the Suan Kwang Mountain Forest Park and is connected to Tamana Ngam Sub-district and Thali Subdistrict of Kumphawapi District. The area covers the National Reserved Forest. The stone bridge is made from mountain sandstone and stretches along a long line. It stretches like a bridge, about 40 meters long, going east-west. It is used as a natural boundary line for dividing the province of Udon Thani and Khon Kaen Province.

There are two stone bridges near each other, which local residents refer to as the male and female bridges. Tourists can walk across the bridge, but no more than 20 people at a time. Stone Bridge is a highlight of tourism in the community in Tha Li Photo from facebook page: buengkan day Sub-District. Tourists can travel there all year round both round-trip in one day or stay at a local homestay.
ไปเที่ยวกัน...สะพานหินทาลี่ Stone moon bridge: The moon circle is a semicircular stone ridge. resembling a half-moon shape with a width of 3 meters, a stone arch that looks like a long bridge. It is naturally beautiful. Visitors can sit and rest there. Previously, the surrounding area was an area for agriculture and animal husbandry, but is now a reserved forest area. Villagers use the bridge Moon stone for shelter from the rain and temporary shelter.

Attraction
Three Stone looks like a medium-sized mountain and stretches in an east to west line, used as a natural boundary line to divide the provinces of Udon Thani and Khon Kaen. Some outcroppings have been caused by changes in the earth's crust causing the arrangement of strange-shaped rocks scattered in large numbers, splitting the stone slab into 3 parts. The villagers named the stone slab that separates in the direction of Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Kalasin. Standing Stone is located in the stone courtyard near the Sai Noi Waterfall. It is a volcanic rock formed by changes in the Earth's crust. Stones there are shaped with a strange beauty and are scattered throughout the area.
Pha Sawan Cave's Temple is a temple located on a small, rocky mountain. Inside the temple there is a Buddha image that villagers help build to hold the mind, and for worship. The monks come to visit during Buddhist Lent from time to time. The temple grounds are peaceful and a resting point where tourists and visitors can pay their respects.

ชีวิตในประเทศไทย Throughout the waiting period I had to go to take a rest and wait in the car for a while, still not reaching the front of the queue, and had to constantly use a damp cloth to wipe my son to reduce his body temperature. There were babies and children that their mothers carried and they were crying. It was a very depressing picture. All the time I realized that If I had health insurance, I would have been able to go to a private hospital and not have to wait in long queues like this. About the hospital's management system, there may be a part that slows down because of the large number of patients. But for patients who do not want to see a doctor, they just had to fill out the information in the hospital system from home and get their medicine. For people who wanted to see a doctor and had symptoms (the green group) consisting of a slight fever, or cold, they were treated according to the symptoms only. They are able to isolate at home or can stay at a hotel with which the hospital has coordinated, and charges may apply. For me, it was more convenient to go back home and stay there myself. The hospital has a patient follow-up system by letting the patient enter the LINE group and take the temperature, measure the oxygen and record the results into the LINE group every day. There are doctors, nurses, pharmacists in the group to answer questions. Throughout the 10-day quarantine

Live in Thailand I felt fortunate that we had this time for me and my son. The symptoms were not very severe, only a fever for two days and after that there was just a cough. My perception of smell and taste was normal. Maybe because it's an omicron species where the severity of the disease is less, and the infection does not go down to destroy the lungs. Plus I have been vaccinated, which reduces the severity of the disease. In the middle of this year Thailand will declare Covid as an endemic disease. It will be treated like a common cold which everyone has from time to time, but the disease is not severe for most people. For people with underlying comorbid disease, Covid is still scary. So in everyday life we all need to keep clean, personal personal hygiene is important. But what will improve is a better economy because people in the country will be able to come out and do business as usual after that.

This is how I felt when I was trying to plan my journey back to Thailand from Cambodia. I had not seen my family for two years and Covid had given me time to reflect on the more important things in life, so I decided to retire and bop my way back to Udon, just like the Warriors.

Life in Thailand I was looking for a window of opportunity where I could maximise my payoff from my employers and also arrive in Thailand and not have to quarantine for days on end. Easier said than done. Conditions were so fluid that the situation would change on a daily basis. Would I have to spend $2,000 in hotel accommodation and tests? Would I catch Covid on the flight over? Who could know? Nevertheless, one of my colleagues informed me that Bangkok Airways had started flights again, so I booked and paid for my flight not knowing if I would be able to make it or not. Always a bit dodgy when they say that there were no refunds, but what are you supposed to do? I had to do something. Booking PCR tests was another adventure. When and when to go, how many hours before you fly, how many more tests once you arrive at your destination, the directives were changing all the time. There came a moment when I just said, “Right, that’s it, I’m going.”

ชีวิตในประเทศไทย Arriving in Bangkok, I was surprised at how well everything went. I had to pre-book a hotel for one night which had to include a PCR test. When I arrived at the airport, I was ushered to a table where I was put in a minibus and driven to a hospital for my PCR test. I was then taken to my hotel to wait for the result. This was completed very efficiently, just like a McDonalds drive-thru. Unfortunately, the requirements changed the day I left Cambodia, so I was required to have another PCR test 5-7 days later, but that wasn’t the end of the world. I went to AEK Udon, and they sorted me out. Waiting time was minimal and it was completed with the minimal of fuss. AEK Udon International Hospital supplied me with all the paperwork I needed to travel around Thailand to show that I had completed all the relevant tests and paperwork, so here I am, back home in Thailand, looking forward to what the Land of Smiles has to offer. What’s next? Ah, yes, the long-term visa.
