Summer Programs SHAKESPEARE IN ITALY
LATIN IN ROME
Shakespeare in Italy focuses on Shakespeare and the place that inspired him the most, Italy. The professors lead the students through reading, discussing and enacting the most compelling works of William Shakespeare, including Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice and The Taming of the Shrew, amid the enchanting and breathtaking Italian settings of Rome, Venice and Padua. The emphasis is not only on enabling students to read with greater insight but also to become more polished writers and speakers, preparing them for success in college.
Latin in Rome seeks intermediate and advanced students of Latin who desire to refine and deepen their understanding of the language and the Romans who spoke it. Throughout the program, you will study passages from Cicero, Vergil, Livy, Pliny, Tacitus and others to enhance visits to sites in Rome and Naples. Most of the places visited will be immediate subjects of the tutorial sessions, where grammar becomes a map to a familiar place and vocabulary a newly discovered old friend. This program is not simply a summer tour, but a college-level Latin course.
