Introduction
As it enters its third century, UCS will continue to embody the forward-looking spirit that has always defined it. The product of two centuries of educational excellence, we continue to offer an education of enlightenment, nurturing happy and compassionate pupils who are academically ambitious, intellectually curious and encouraged to shine purposefully in the world.
Our ethos remains as strong today as ever: firmly grounded in tradition, yet unmistakably focused on the future. This school was always intended to be forwardthinking, contemporary and pioneering.
A major capital project approved for the Senior School Site at Frognal and expected to be completed by 2030 will ensure that UCS remains a place where tradition and innovation stand side by side, ready to meet the needs and aspirations of generations to come. The project focuses on two central principles: the importance of pupil wellbeing and the vital role that the performing arts play in a well-rounded education.
The Lower School Hub
We will create a dedicated space to support pupils as they transition into Senior School life at age 11. Recognising that this pivotal stage can be both exciting and challenging, the Hub will provide a secure, welcoming and purpose-built space for Year 7 and 8 pupils.
Comprising 12 new form rooms, pastoral offices, modern facilities and a shared common room, this will become the heart of the Lower School. The common room will encourage social interaction across form groups through games and informal recreation. A centralised base for Lower School clubs will enhance participation and community, while shared spaces for Years 7 and 8 will strengthen mentoring and house cohesion.

“We are hugely excited by and build confidence, belonging settle quickly and thrive
by the potential to significantly enhance induction belonging and aspiration. This will help every pupil to in the early years of Senior School life.”
Edd Roberts, Head of Lower
School.

“This development is about creating an environment what we value as a school—not just academically, but place where young people are not only challenged, but stretched, but sustained.”

The Wellbeing Centre
We want our pupils to leave UCS not just with excellent grades, but with a deep understanding of themselves — the ability to manage stress, navigate challenges, and to look after their own mental and physical health in a world that will continue to demand a great deal of them. When wellbeing is strong, everything else follows.
The Wellbeing Centre will bring together all of our wellbeing provision - mental and physical — into one dedicated, thoughtfully designed space. It will make support more accessible, reducing barriers and making it easier for pupils to seek help naturally and confidently. It will strengthen the care we can offer through closer collaboration between counsellors, nurses and wellbeing staff working side by side to improve outcomes. Finally, it creates a genuine sanctuary where pupils can feel safe, supported and at ease.

Centre for Performing Arts
Performing arts are one of the defining parts of UCS school life, where Drama, Music and Dance thrive at an exceptional level. Pupils are enthusiastic, engaged, and committed, excelling in everything from academic lessons and house competitions to award-winning productions and nationally recognised musical performances. Our new performing arts spaces will catch up with the talent and enthusiasm of our pupils.
For Drama and Dance, this includes a purposebuilt black box studio theatre with professional lighting and sound, alongside a second flexible studio space. Together, these will unlock creative, pupil-led work, enabling pupils to devise, direct, and experiment in a truly professional environment.
In Music, we will create state-of-the-art soundproof practice rooms, a recording studio and dedicated ensemble spaces. At its heart a new 132-seat recital hall will offer entirely new possibilities for performance at every scale.

“These spaces will not only future where UCS remains
only meet demand, but elevate ambition — shaping a remains a centre of outstanding artistic excellence.”
Connor Abbott, Director of Drama

“This project is a bold, physical statement that says we of our history, we are focused on the future on behalf people that we have the privilege to educate, both now

we are not just proud of the talented young now and in years to come.”
Mark English, Vice Master

Building the future of UCS
At the heart of the development will be a vibrant new social hub: a welcoming dining and café space designed for all year groups. More than simply a place to eat, it will encourage connection across the school community, reflecting the warmth and inclusivity of UCS and supporting the modern, connected culture that defines school life today.
This landmark project will break ground in Summer 2027 and is being delivered with both ambition and prudence. While we will not compromise on quality, we are carefully balancing operational and financial responsibilities through fundraising, strategic borrowing and existing resources, ensuring that the development will not impact school fees.
By Spring 2030, we will not only celebrate our heritage but also stand ready for the next chapter in our story.
