E

ver wonder what’s behind your heart-pumping, energy-filled Group Fit classes? Instructors spend more time than you think perfecting routines and music to give you the perfect combination of exercise and fun.

UCSB Recreation is very fortunate to have the talented David Stamps teaching hip hop and group cycling classes. With his experience as a professional dancer, Stamps loves to emphasize music and rhythm in his classes. He designs his classes to be a combination of “the musicality and movement you would see in a dance studio with the format and repetition of an exercise regimen.” Check out his classes, you’re bound to find an upbeat mix of EDM, hip hop, R&B and even rock!

Outside of teaching Group Fit classes, Stamps is pursuing his doctorate in the Communication Department studying media portrayals of underrepresented populations. He received his Master’s Degree in Mass

“Everyone’s stress melts away,” he describes. “My biggest goal is to make sure that people forget how hard they are working and just enjoy the movement.”
