UCR hosts meeting to discuss concerns and changes regarding proposed STEM high school

and expressed his gratitude for everyone in attendance by stating, “Community engagement is better than no community engagement, and I hope this evening as we share our discussions, we are respectful to each other.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, UCR experienced an outage to both wired and wireless internet services and on Tuesday, Nov. 5, intermittent campus outages occurred to wired and wireless internet services. In an interview with The Highlander, Communications Specialist for Information Technology Solutions (ITS) Jacob Poore stated that ITS immediately dispatched network engineers and learned that UCR’s network infrastructure encountered a critical hardware failure in regards to the Oct. 30 outage. The engineers repaired the equipment and restored services as quickly as possible.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, a community town hall was hosted at the UCR Extension Center to discuss the proposed Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) STEM High School at UCR. The event began at 6 p.m. but

starting at 5:30 p.m., attendees were able to walk around the room and visit different presentation tables regarding the budget, planning and location of the school. Community members were also encouraged to fill out a comment card in order to have a chance to speak during the

community input portion of the meeting. At 6:00 p.m, Gerry Bomotti, the vice chancellor of planning, budget and administration, began by going over the agenda and introducing the first speaker, RUSD Superintendent David Hansen. Hansen welcomed
