The Baddest in Blue Mind-Blowing Nu Mu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated is thrilled to welcome two amazing young ladies into our sisterhood. We were excited to present them to the UConn community on Tuesday, March 25 on the Student Union Terrace in the form of a Coming Out Show/Probate. We hope the Greek community can join us in welcoming our Spring 2014 line: Shayla Jackson and Diandra Coke!
The ladies of Phi Sigma Rho are hosting their annual Mr. Engineering pageant on April 9th in the Student Union theater at 8:30. Come support the men in engineering as they compete for the ultimate prize of the golden goggles and the title of Mr. Engineering! Events include talent, nerd wear and Q&A. It's only $4 at the door and proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Last month, 10 students and one OFSL staff member spent a week on an Alternative Spring Break to Indianapolis. The group worked at several different service sites, including Habitat for Humanity, the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, the Midwest Food Bank, and the Salvation Army. In addition, the group visited fraternity and sorority headquarters to learn about the rich Greek history that exists in the Midwest. They were also able to visit Butler and Indiana University, two institutions with strong (and very different!) Greek communities. While in Indy, the UCGAB participants connected with two other schools on alternative breaks in the area—Iowa State and the University of Iowa. During a joint event, all three institutions came together to hear Ginny Carroll, the founder of the Circle of Sisterhood, speak about her experiences and initiatives to uplift women worldwide through education. After many long days of painting, sorting donations, and road tripping to and from Storrs, this great group of Greeks walked away from Spring Break having made incredible memories and even bigger difference in the Indianapolis community. Thank you so much for your service!

“As a graduating senior, Natalia currently serves as our chapter treasurer. She holds multiple job positions on campus including being a resident assistant, a tour guide at the UConn’s Lodewick Visitors Center, a student administrative assistant at the Dean’s Office at the School of Business, and an ASOS campus representative. Although she has four demanding jobs, Natalia never lost sight of our sorority’s main standard which is academic excellence and continues to make academics her priority. Last semester, Natalia attained the best grade point average out of all the members of our chapter with a 3.747. Being part of the School of Business as a marketing major, it is very challenging however Natalia strives to be the best she can be and always has a positive outlook on all her challenges. With such passion and determination, and might we add style, Natalia aspires to go into the fashion industry and make a name for herself. Not only does Natalia work hard for herself, she also works just as hard for our chapter by consistently offering new and innovative ideas to bring to campus! Kappa chapter is honored to have such a loving, selfless, and hardworking sister in our chapter.”
“Over the past four years, Mia Sinatro has contributed tremendously to Alpha Phi. Former Alpha Phi President Ayjan Arik says, “I have never met a woman who is more passionate and dedicated to Alpha Phi. Her determination and hard work has brought our chapter where we are today”. Mia has been a very involved member of our sorority right from the start. She took on the role of historian as a freshman and was a key member in completing arête that year. As a sophomore, she joined the executive board as Vice President of Membership Recruitment. In her junior and senior years she was the Director of Formal Recruitment. Mia is a role model to everyone in the chapter and is always volunteering to help out other sisters in any way she can. She is someone that the younger sisters can look up to and aspire to be like. Her involvement in Alpha Phi has truly transformed our chapter and bettered us as a whole and without her we would not be the same. This spring, Mia became an Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC) for the Alpha Phi Internationals, and she will graduate with a Bachelors of Arts in Communications and Media Studies in May. We want to give Mia a huge thank you for everything she has done for the sisters of Alpha Phi. We wish her the best of luck with all her future endeavors. We know that she will do great things!”
