Greek of the Month Congratulations to April’s Greek of the Month Winner Annie Haylon (Kappa Alpha Theta) After being initiated in Fall 2005, Annie Haylon has already contributed a great deal to the Greek community. Annie serves as the House Manager for Kappa Alpha Theta. She has done a great job and “goes well beyond her duties”. Annie is also a member of Order of Omega, a dancer for HUSKYthon, and a member of Guard Dogs, a sober driving program. This semester, Annie was also just accepted into the School of Education.

This year, the four council presidents and well as the president of the Order of Omega have been weekly as the All Greek Council (AGC) Executive Committee. They have been discussing issues facing the Greek community, created two governing policies (AGC Risk Management Policy and the AGC Standards Policy), and have been educating each other about their respective councils. The AGC Executive Committee is one of the changes in the new AGC structure that was approved last summer.

Now it is time to roll out the rest of the new AGC structure, which includes a revamped AGC committee structure. We are currently looking for at least one experienced member from each fraternity and sorority to serve on one of the three AGC committees: the service & programming committee, the standards committee, and the communications committee. Committee’s will begin meeting in the Fall. If you are interested, please contact Lauren Elliott (lauren.elliott@uconn.edu).
ΠΒΦ Scholarships Awarded The sisters of Pi Beta Phi celebrated their Founder’s Day on Sunday April 2nd at Zenny’s. Many members of the Manchester and New Haven Alumni Clubs participated in the celebration. During the brunch, the Pi Phi House Corps awarded $5000 in book scholarships to members of the organization displaying high academic standards.
ΔΓ Jean Sale The sisters of Delta Gamma held a Jean Sale on Wednesday, April 12th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Asian American Cultural Center. Some of the brands that were offered were Citizens, Blue Colt, Paper Denim Cloth, Habitual, and Yanuk. Also, there were designer tops and men’s jeans. They were sold at discounted prices for $85.00. All proceeds were donated to the Delta Gamma Foundation for the Service for Sight and Aid to the Blind.

ΚΚΓ Updates Earlier this month, Kappa held a Kapture the Flag Tournament for their philanthropy event. Over $500 was raised to purchase books to donate to Reading is Fundamental. The brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon won the tournament. Kappa also held a very successful Alumnae Tea where they invited alumnae to come share their experiences as sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Also this past month, Kappa had an affiliation ceremony for Elizabeth Parry who transferred to UCONN from Indiana. She can now officially call herself a Delta Mu! There was a brunch held in her honor the day she became affiliated.

thanks to everyone who took part in the 5K Walk to support CASA. Also, the sisters celebrated Founder’s Day on April 8th at Adam’s Mill in Manchester. Finally, the sisters of Theta will be hosting their annual Scholarship Tea on April 19th at the Theta House to recognize the chapter's academic performance.

ΚΦΛ Sorority, Inc. Fundraiser The sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc will be holding a fundraiser every Monday from 5-9 PM at the Asian Cultural Center. They will be selling charms for cell phones, bags, and key chains. Charms will be starting at $2 and there will be a range of different designs. If you have any questions please contact Kalen Li at yixin.li@uconn.edu. Also, last Wednesday, Kappa Phi Lambda hosted a forum on the “Benefits of Being a Minority Greek”. It was a panel of cultural Greek discussing the influence of Greek Life on their undergraduate, graduate, and professional careers.
Women’s Studies Class for Peer Educators In an effort to stimulate collaboration between the Greek Community and the Women’s Center, there is a one-credit class offered that trains students how to be Peer Educators in regard to sexual assault and sexual violence. Take Back the Night Rally, Candlelight Walk, and Speak Out Wednesday April 19th 7:00pm-Rally Student Union 8:00 Candlelight Walk 9:00 Speak Out, Spoken Word, SharingStudent Union-lounge area
The Women’s Center invites every member of the UConn community to participate in Take Back the Night to recognize and speak out against sexual violence. The evening will begin with a rally in the Student Union followed by a candlelight walk. The night will conclude with a Speak Out session where survivors will be invited to share their stories, poetry, spoken words, etc. Come out, as a member of this community, to do your part to help prevent sexual violence.
