National Hazing Prevention Week The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UConn will once again be participating in National Hazing Prevention Week this year from September 21-25. Several events will be held during the week to educate the community about the problems of hazing, but its ultimate goal is to prevent hazing from happening in the first place. The following highlights a few of the scheduled events:

Halt Hazing Luncheon

Speaker Travis Apgar

Presidents Forum Discussion

September 22nd, 12-1PM at TBA

September 24th, 7PM at Jorgensen

September 25th, 1pm in SU 304A

Open forum to discuss hazing. Lunch will be provided.

Speaker to talk about the hidden harms of hazing. Mandatory.

Presidents will discuss hazing & student conduct as it relates to UConn fraternities & sororities.

QPR for Greeks to be Held During Suicide Prevention Week As part of Suicide Prevention Week, there will be a QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) session for fraternity and sorority members on September 16th, Wednesday, in Konover at 5PM.

QPR September 16th, 5PM, Konover There will be other events scheduled throughout the week of September 14-20, including Keynote speaker,

Alison Malmon, founder of Active Minds who will speak on 9/15 at 7:00p.m. in Jorgensen, and Concert for Causes on 9/20.

College and Suicide - Just the Facts 1. 2.

Suicide is Preventable.

Nearly 1,100 suicides are projected to occur on college campuses this year. 18-24 year-olds think about suicide more often than any other age group. One in twelve U.S. college students has made a suicide plan. The National College Health Risk Behavior Study found that 11.4% of students seriously consider attempting suicide.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students.
