HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Thank You For Supporting National Hazing Prevention Week at UConn! During the week of September 24th-28th, UConn’s Greek Community gathered to raise awareness for National Hazing Prevention Week! The week kicked off with the National Hazing Prevention Week 2012 Banner Campaign which gave Greeks from all councils the opportunity to sign a banner pledging themselves to the anti-hazing efforts. This banner is now being displayed in the Student Union for the whole UConn community to see. On Tuesday, members of the Greek Community gathered to view a movie about hazing and later participated in a discussion about antihazing efforts and what the community can do to help. Later in the week, after each council held their own anti-hazing event, chapter members who handle risk management were invited to participate in a roundtable to discuss hazing, prevention efforts, and potential alternatives. National Hazing Prevention Week ended on Friday the 28th with the community wearing red to show their support of hazing awareness and prevention. Thank you to everyone who participated in National Hazing Prevention Week by declaring their support of the University’s anti-hazing efforts!

Senior Spotlight From her nomination: “Amy Chea is a truly outstanding senior. Over the years she has accomplished so much for herself, the Greek community, and the UConn campus. Amy is a perfect role model of what a senior should be. She is enthusiastic about school and the organizations she is a part of and is always involved! She has an amazing attitude about anything and will instantly make anyone happy with her positive attitude and warm personality. Amy has been a member of Kappa Alpha Theta since 2009. After joining, she served on the New Member Education Committee in 2011 for her sorority, helping to educate the new members on the history of her organization. She continued to help others, specifically preschool children, by working as a Preschool Teacher Aide in UConn Child Development Laboratories and also as a Teachers Aide in Jolly Farm Learning Centers back at home! Since then she has even furthered her experience in leadership and service and has continued to be an amazing, supportive sister. She was elected the President of UConn Unite in January 2012 and also the Chief Financial Officer of UConn Hear For You. In addition, she was awarded the position of being a recruitment counselor for the Recruitment Management Team this year! It is easy for most seniors to fall behind and become uninvolved their last year in college, however, Amy proves to be doing exactly the opposite. She continues to demonstrate what it is like to be a Greek leader and a spirited and dedicated UConn student!”

Greek of the Month

Dillon Casey, ΚΑΘ

From her nomination: “Dillon Casey is an outstanding member of the Greek community. Dillon has accomplished so much in her first year at UConn and I am sure she will achieve much more this year as a sophomore! Her extreme dedication and eagerness to be involved sets a wonderful example for anyone. During her first semester at UConn, Dillon became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. As if joining Greek life and adjusting to college wasn’t enough to handle, Dillon decided to become involved in community service as well. She proved that it is possible to be involved no matter how stressful situations may be and continues to make every experience great. She joined the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program and is a tutor for children on a weekly basis. Throughout the semester, she continued to find more ways to become involved and make her freshman year a great experience. She became a Dancer for HuskyThon, excelled in her schoolwork and was admitted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Alpha Lambda Delta Society, and was recently appointed the position of being a Greek Peer Ambassador! Dillon proves to be not only an outstanding Greek by demonstrating her dedication for community service, leadership, and scholarship, but she also proves to be an amazing well-rounded UConn student. Already at the start of the fall semester, she has been involved with Husky Haulers by being an Area Captain, and her enthusiastic attitude, positive impact on others, and great personality allowed her to gain the position of being an FYE Peer Mentor! Her amazing adjustment to UConn and Greek life will make her an absolutely amazing mentor and role model for incoming freshman this year. Dillon is truly an exceptional individual. She has accomplished so much for being so young and will only continue to do great things!”
