Happy Founder’s Day! The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life wishes a happy Founder’s Day to the following organizations:

Nov 7: AEP Nov 11: GFB Nov 12: SGR Nov 21: MSU Mr. Burgundy and Grey Join Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. as we host our second annual Mr. Burgundy and Grey Scholarship Pageant! Come and enjoy as UConn's most sophisticated gentlemen compete for the title and the $200 prize. Our scholarship pageant is dedicated to raising money for our Paving the Way scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a female high school graduate in either the New Haven, Hartford or Bridgeport district. This scholarship was created to assist the next generation of women in their pursuit of higher education. Help us sponsor a student’s dream of higher education by attending our second annual Mr. Burgundy and Grey Scholarship Pageant. There is a $5 entrance fee and all proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. It will be held on November 7, 2014 at 6pm in the Student Union Theater.

Arrowspike Re-cap On October 11th, Pi Beta Phi was proud to host their annual volleyball tournament, Arrowspike, to raise money for literacy. At first, it looked like the event might get rained out, but the tournament was pushed back, and the rain stopped just in time. Thank you to everyone for accommodating the time change. All the teams had a great showing, with some impressive spikes and dives, but in the end Tau Kappa Epsilon and Phi Sigma Rho came out on top, earning the trophy of a golden volleyball. Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone who participated! Together, we raised over $700 to support The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation, and it was so much fun to do. It definitely was an exciting afternoon, and Pi Phi is already looking forward to next year’s Arrowspike!

History: "At the University of Connecticut - Storrs on Spring 2008, a number of interested gentlemen were eager to make a change on their campus. With their progressive mindset and after full semester's worth of hard work, they sought to bring a new chapter of what they felt was the ideal organization to represent themselves. Only a year later six gentlemen, through their diligence and dedication, founded the Beta Iota Chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc." Upcoming Event: UConn For Equality - "The Hermanos of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc., the Puerto Rican Latin American Cultural Center, the African American Cultural Center, the Rainbow Center, the Asain American Cultural Center and the Women's Center brings you UConn For Equality! Join us as we cultivate knowledge sharing, and provide a stage for a campus-learning environment that reflects student activism!

Chai Time is Delta Epsilon Psi’s longest running event on UConn’s campus. Every two weeks we host an open discussion for members of the UConn community to talk about issues plaguing the world today over fresh chai tea and samosas. The topics we have covered this semester include Domestic Violence in the NFL, Ebola, Use of Racial Slurs and other controversial topics. We love to see new faces! Our next meeting dates are November 3rd, and November 17th in the Asian American Cultural Center at 5:30PM.

What is UConn For Equality you might ask? This inspiring event seeks to promote a diverse representation of the campus community, all the while serving as a celebration of the history of student activism through the means of art and expression! Be a part of the movement, be a part of the community, be a part of change on Friday, November 14th 2014 at 6:00PM in the Alumni Center!"

Gamma Phi Beta: Crescent Classic Re-cap Gamma Phi Beta had a very successful Crescent Classic. Pumpkin painting, raffles and great music filled the day with fun. The men's champions were the men of Alpha Delta Phi and the women's champions were Alpha Epsilon Phi. Our chapter was able to raise $1500 for our philanthropic partners Girls on the Run.

ZombieTHON: The Dash of the Undead!

Late autumn on the UConn campus is definitely a beautiful.

On most days, you can hear the wind rustling through the trees, the dry leaves scraping across the brick roads, and students chatting about clubs, classes, and - of course - midterms. But on November 9th, if you listen closely and head over to Horsebarn Hill, you will hear something different: the moans and groans of the UConn Apocalypse, also known as ZombieTHON: The Dash of the Undead!

During the second annual 5K race, which is co-sponsored by UConn Recreation, runners will be chased around Horsebarn Hill by zombies in full professional make-up! Sign up, channel your favorite zombie movie, hit Horsebarn Hill, and run for your lives!

As a human runner, you are provided a flag belt with 3 “flags” or health at the beginning of the race. You wear the belt through the race, and the zombies are tasked with removing those health. If you end the race with one or more flags, you've survived the Zombie apocalypse! For those signed up as zombies, there will be professional makeup artists to help complete your look. While competing in the race, moaning, growling, screaming or hissing appreciated and encouraged.

Registration is open NOW for this event! It is $20 to register as a human and $25 to register as a zombie! Zombies must check in at the Ratcliffe Hicks arena at 9 a.m. Humans check in at 12:30 p.m. The Dash will begin at 2 p.m.!

You do NOT want to miss out on this event of the fall semester! Prizes and food will also be provided. All proceeds will be donated to Connecticut Children’s Miracle Hospital.

Zeta Beta Tau: Get on the Ball Re-cap

ZBT’s annual Get on the Ball was a tremendous success this fall. Over 2,800 people stopped by and signed the ball thanks to the efforts of philanthropy chairman Will Stofka.

We were also able to raise more than $1500 for HuskyThon, the Connecticut Children’s Hospital and our national philanthropy, the Children’s Miracle Network.

Many thanks to our sponsors: Cigna, Yale, and Aetna! ZBT is looking for forward to HuskyThon in February because we are all always For The Kids!

Beta Chi Theta: Be the Change Here at Psi Colony, the South Asian fraternity, Beta Chi Theta, has hosted events to benefit the community and to get some excitement in the air! Our service event, Be The Change, was a day of service to the community. Nationally, this event is hosted with SAALT, or South Asian Americans Leading Together. We hosted it with them and ISA, the Indian Student Association here at UConn. We had a guest speaker, Dr. Marie Coppola, who is a professor here at UConn in the Department of Psychology with a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She talked about going down to Nicaragua in the past and building schools for the many deaf children in the country. She spoke on how she improved the lives of these children who are so poor that some of them would\ have to walk hours just to learn a way to communicate. After that, we had another event of bingo with the elderly to liven up the day! This day of service and going to the elderly home is an important part of what we do. These are examples of doing one of our pillars, Service to Humanity, justice. Expect more from Beta Chi Theta as the semester goes on!

In celebration of the day that Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded, chapters host a Founders Week. This is a week of events that captures what the sorority’s mission is, with a focus on sisterhood, scholarship, and service within our communities. November 12, 2014 marks 92 years since Sigma Gamma Rho was founded, and the Nu Mu Chapter, here at the University of Connecticut, cannot wait to celebrate this occasion!

Senior Spotlight

Samantha Barrett Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Samantha Barrett is the definition of the universal woman. She is a Human Development and Family Studies major with a Criminal Justice minor. For our chapter she currently holds the Fundraising Chair, Public Relations Chair and Academic Chair.

Sam's involvement here on campus includes having served as a WOW! Captain for this incoming freshman class. She is involved with Students Engaged in Academic Leadership (SEAL) and has studied abroad in Martinique and London. Sam's comical personality can always put a smile on a sister's face. Sam goes above and beyond for the well being of all and is an exemplary student, leader and sister.
