OFSL is happy to welcome two new organizations to our Greek community at UConn.

Phi Delta Theta and Delta Phi Lambda will both be expanding this semester at UConn.

Collette Pozuelo– Gamma Phi Beta Hometown: Wilton, CT Major: Nutritional Sciences Favorite place to get food at UConn: Dog Lane, Ganssett Wraps, Oriental, Wally's, and Wings Over Do you have a job on campus? I work at the Infirmary Future career goal: Work at a research hospital and live near a city Goals for your term: During my term I’d like to continue to create stronger bonds between all the chapters. I think this is important not only for us as a community to function well but to show people who aren’t in Greek Life that we are more than the stereotype. I’d also like to promote scholarship and academics more because I know so many women that are driven and have amazing career goals. So I’d really like to help everyone as much as I can and provide as many resources! Another goal I have is to create better relationships with different departments on campus, I think this will not only benefit us as a community but also those departments. Panhellenic is made up of about 1,300 women! We are the largest women’s organization at UConn. We have the potential do make a huge difference on this campus. And lastly, I really hope to inspire people. It’s only the beginning of my term and I already feel like I can make a huge difference and it’s definitely an interesting role to be in and I love the challenge.

What you're most looking forward to: I’m really looking forward to seeing Greek Life from the “bigger picture” point of view. I love Gamma Phi and all my sisters and I have held a few positions in my chapter but being able to serve for all the chapters is amazing and something so unique. I also love that I get to interact with the university and be the face for 1,300 women!

I’m also looking forward to meeting more women in the Panhellenic community and other leaders on campus.

Why you decided to Go Greek: I went through formal recruitment as a freshman. At first I chose to do it because I wanted to join something early on and it seemed like something I would like. But while going through recruitment I definitely had a different outlook on it all and realized that I was getting myself into one of the most amazing things I’ll ever do! I don’t regret a moment of it.

Reflecting On My Alternative Break Experience

By Sarah Connors ΓΦΒ This past winter break I was given the opportunity to represent Gamma Phi Beta on an Alternative Greek Break to Negril, Jamaica. In Negril, we worked closely with a school of young kids, ages 3-5. We committed various service acts, including painting the majority of the interior and parts of the exterior of the school, repainting the playground, concreting the playground, building bookshelves, reorganizing the classroom, and even teaching the kids. We donated suitcases of children's books, classroom supplies, toys and games and clothes to the school as well. Throughout the week, we became very close to the members of the school, but we were also able to explore the people and culture of Jamaica by attending a service Mass on Sunday, snorkeling, and zip-lining. It was an experience of a lifetime, and all the members on the trip including instantly fell in love with the generosity, joy, and energy of the people of Jamaica. It was truly amazing to be able to work together with fellow Greek sisters and Uconn Students to make an impact in a place that really needed and appreciated our help, and I will forever be grateful for what the trip taught me about myself, Greek life, and service.

Shea Middleton- Leadership Intern OFSL just hosted this year’s Greek Emerging Leaders Conference. The theme this year was Greeks Redefining the Future. It was great to see so many members of Greek life participating in this event and it seemed like everyone learned a lot. There were a variety of presentations and presenters that did an amazing job teaching these emerging leaders how they can shape the future of Greek Life. The day was filled with fun activities and we look forward to next year being bigger and better.

Maddie Laks– Programming Intern I’m really excited for all the events happening this month! My 21st birthday is the first week in February, the Greek Emerging Leaders Conference is coming up, and HuskyTHON is in a few weeks! I am looking forward to spending time with friends and family for my birthday, meeting other Greek leaders at the conference, and fundraising/dancing for CCMC for my third year in a row.

Adam Duong– Operations Intern I have been a campus rep since my Sophomore year for Southern Tide and it has been a great time so far. I highly suggest everyone at UConn to reach out to companies or brands, on and off of campus, for rep positions for brands are always looking to gain more exposure especially to the younger college crowd. It also provides a great deal of professional development and work experience and usually there are great benefits tied to being a campus rep (i.e. money incentives, store credit, merchandise, and promotions). In light of Huskython coming up very soon on Feb 20th, I will be there repping Southern Tide and giving away free merchandise so come by and always FTK.

HuskyThon is February 20th! All funds will be donated to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
