Join us for the HuskyTHON’s 14th and biggest year at UConn yet. The yearlong fundraiser will come to a close this February 17 th at the conclusion of the 18-hour dance marathon celebrating the hard work of students all over campus. Last year, HuskyTHON raised over $304,000 for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and became one of the top ten dance marathons in the nation! We are hoping to make 2013 recordbreaking— join over 1,600 participants from February 16th-17th to make HuskyTHON history!

One night. One heart. One cause. FTK. Emerging Leaders Conference The annual Greek Emerging Leaders Conference will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 10AM to 4PM in the Student Union Ballroom! Up to four new members from every chapter have been selected to attend a day full of experiential leadership learning.

Attendees will participate in 3 educational sessions and learn how to better serve their organizations, councils, and communities.

The Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) Annual Conference will take place in Hartford, CT from Thursday, February 21 to Saturday, February 24. Twenty undergraduate students from all four of our councils (IFC, IGC, NPHC, and Panhellenic) will represent the UConn fraternity and sorority community. The conference consists of three days of keynote speakers, educational sessions, workshops, leadership development, networking, and idea sharing concluding with an awards banquet to recognize the exceptional efforts of our Northeast Greek communities.

Senior Spotlights Aubrey Boruck exemplifies the four pillars of Greek life and the values that the Greek community stands for. Her genuine care for all of her sisters in Kappa Alpha Theta is strong and meaningful beyond words. Aubrey's leadership abilities are clear, through her position as a member of the executive committee this past year in Theta, as well as her participation in UIFI this summer, and membership on the FSPSB. Aubrey has also served as a member of the Greek Week Management Team. Aubrey’s involvement in the Greek Alternative Spring Break opened her eyes to trying to inspire others in service, and serving those who are less fortunate because she has the ability to do so. Through all of her endeavors on the UConn campus and surrounding community, Aubrey is an exemplary sorority member of Greek life and is a role model for members of all organizations.

Clarence Cheung has undoubtedly been one of Sigma Chi’s most outstanding seniors thus far. As an accounting major in the business school, Clarence has done exceptionally well, achieving a 4.0 GPA in his major. Due to his high success in the classroom, he will be starting a full time job with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in the fall of 2013. Clarence is also a leader in the Gamma Omega chapter. He was elected President in the spring of 2012 revolutionized the position, setting the standard of success to the next level in every task. Overall, Clarence has been an amazing brother and mentor, and will be greatly missed next year.

Deneisha Lindsay is a strong leader within Mu Sigma Upsilon. Deneisha, who crossed and became a sister of the organization in Spring 2011, had the most experience out of all of everyone. As a result, she taught the sisters how to run the chapter and gave them the confidence they needed to be able to take control once she, unfortunately, graduates in May. She has held various minor board positions within our organization and went from being the Secretary last year to being the current President of the Concordia chapter. Aside from roles in the chapter, Deneisha has also held positions within the Intercultural Greek Council Executive Board. She is more than an Outstanding Greek Senior—she is remarkable and she will be missed dearly when she leaves.

Delta Zeta’s Erica Mason exemplifies leadership and scholarship. Erica is an honors scholar, and has remained dedicated to her studies during her time at The University of Connecticut. Erica remained very focused and disciplined in her studies when she held the position of Delta Zeta president, representing her chapter with poise as a great leader. She still remains a leader in Delta Zeta even though she has finished her term on the chapter’s E-board. During her senior year at UConn, Erica's academic success has earned her internships and job offers after graduation.

Thomas Stygares is all about results. During his tenure as a brother in Kappa Sigma, he has held the positions of Recruitment Chair, Philanthropy Chair, Social Chair, Treasurer, and Executive Vice President. Needless to say, he has quite the résumé. He is one of the greatest leaders in the chapter and paved the way for change in Kappa Sigma’s intra-fraternal operations. Thomas implemented a system for committees to be more productive by setting smart goals that hold committee chairs accountable for each goal they set. Thomas also made the Dean's List this past semester, as he usually does, while serving as Executive Vice President. In order to help younger brothers with their personal scholarship, Thomas created groups for each respective major to allow younger brothers to seek academic mentors within the chapter. It's amazing to think about how much positive change Thomas has brought to Kappa Sigma with such small but effective solutions.

Megan Ganzenmuller is an outstanding sister of Delta Zeta. She is currently Delta Zeta’s philanthropy chair and has done an amazing job with this position. Megan knows she is a student first and takes her academics very seriously. She always encourages sisters to study at the library with her and offers them tutoring help. Megan is also the house manager and is always thinking of ways to engage the house sisters to get involved. She demonstrates the highest dedication and care for her chapter by being involved in so many positions. Megan was also Delta Zeta’s Homecoming Chair this past year and with her leadership she lead her team to first place! Megan is currently serving Panhellenic Executive Board, and her chapter is so proud to see all of the amazing things she will accomplish.

Emily Thompson is extremely involved within both Greek life and the UConn community. Since joining Kappa Alpha Theta in the fall of 2012, Emily has continuously shown her dedication to the chapter and adherence to its values. She is a true scholar, maintaining a 4.0 GPA over three semesters at UConn, and is a member of three honor societies. She is a member of numerous honor societies and a research assistant in the Department of Psychology. Additionally, she holds leadership positions in the Girl Effect club, UConn Hear for You, and the Northwest Quad Residential Council. Emily is also a member of NSSLHA, America Reads, Autism Speaks U, and Habitat for Humanity.

Combining both scholarship and leadership skills, Emily is an FYE mentor. Emily demonstrates service through her participation in America READs and Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, Emily's support and care for all of her sisters in Kappa Alpha Theta is indescribable. She is the ultimate sorority member and a valuable sister of the chapter.

Project Jamaica: UCGAB13 Eleven sorority members participated in the first international Greek Alternative Break in Jamaica. From January 5-12, these students were immersed in the Jamaican culture, learning about social justice, and working to beautify primary schools while serving alongside local community members. The students were from Alpha Epsilon Phi (Emily Jessen), Alpha Phi (Stephanie Brin & Jackie Isola), Delta Zeta (Shelby Flynn & Erica Mooney), Kappa Alpha Theta (Alicia Fischer & Nicole Kesner), Lambda Theta Alpha (Samantha Sanchez), and Pi Beta Phi (Shannon Beatty, Allie Cipolla & Emily Collins).

The Office of Leadership Programs is proud to announce that applications are open for our Spring 2013 Leadership Development Workshops: The Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Series and The Impact Delta Series With an intentional focus on self, others, and context, the Emotionally Intelligent Leadership program enables individuals to explore the foundations of leadership - relationship building. This ten-week workshop series will invite participants to explore emotionally intelligent leadership which allows an individual to identify and understand his/her own emotions and those of others, then appropriately manage and channel those emotions into interactions within a particular leadership context. The Impact Delta Series is designed for all students who have demonstrated an interest in leadership, social change, and social justice that also have a desire to make a large and positive impact on the Storrs community. This eight-week program will introduce participants to the Social Change Model of Leadership and the “Seven C’s of Change”. Greeks Against Sexual Assault (GASA) is a weekly meeting for seven weeks with 20-30 participants. These meetings will focus on gender socialization, femininities and masculinities, social change, and gender-based violence. We will also tackle the topic of why Greek life has the stigma of sexual assault, how to prevent it, and how to speak up against it. GASA will meet on Tuesday nights starting February 19; timing will depend on selected participants’ availability.
