The History of NPHC
The National Pan Hellenic Council (NPHC or Divine 9) is the organization that houses 9 black Greek-letter organizations. NPHC was chartered May 29th, 1992, at the University of Connecticut. These organization were founded during a period where African Americans were being denied basic human rights and privileges on their college campuses and society. due to the campus climate of predominantly white institutions, Black students created organizations that align with their values, common goals, and ideals.
The University of Connecticut's campus currently has 5 NPHC organizations on our campus. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. are all organizations on UConn's campus.
