PrimaryRecruitmentbeginswithScholarship Day.PNMswillmeetwithall9chaptersand learnmoreabouttheiracademicsandtheir organization.

What to Wear:

For the first round, wear whatever makes you feel confident and comfortable. Since this round is on zoom, make sure you are in a well lit, quiet area, and use headphones if in the room with another person!

Writedownnotesaboutthechaptersinbetweeneachevent. Beauthentic,don’tbeafraidtotellthemaboutyourself. FeelfreetoaskyourRCanyquestions,theyaretheretohelp!

Round 2: Philanthropy Day(In-Person) (In-Person)

Friday, Sept 8th, 4:30-11:15pm

Philanthropydayisthefirstdaythatisinvitation only.Youcanbeinvitedtovisitamaximumof7 chapters.Theywillpresentontheirlocaland/or nationalphilanthropiesandserviceefforts.You'll alsohavetheopportunitytohaveaconversation withanactivesisterinthechapter.

What to Wear:

For the second round, we ask that you wear the PNM shirt provided to you at orientation. We recommend comfy flat shoes and skirts/dressy shorts/pants/jeans.

What to Wear:

We suggest wearing wedges, heels, or nice sandals/flats, and then a dress or nicer bottoms and a top. Wear what you feel most confident in!

AsthefinaldayofPrimaryRecruitment, conversationisintimateandmoreserious.Youwill havetheopportunitytoindicatewhich organizationyouwishtoreceiveamembership invitationviatheMRABA.

What to Wear:

This is the most formal round of recruitment. We suggest wearing a nice dress/jumpsuit/business casual with heels or wedges (if you feel comfortable). An example is something you would wear to graduation or a day-time wedding. Be true to your personal style!

Reflect on the conversation you had in this round and all the prior rounds

Assess the women you’ve met; these women could be your sorority sisters so make sure you feel comfortable Go with your gut!

Bid Day Bid Day(In-Person)

Monday, Sept 11th, 5pm

Thisisit!BidDaysignalstheconclusionofthePrimaryRecruitment period.Ifyoureceiveaninvitationfromachapteryournewsisters willhostaspecialcelebrationtogettoknowyoubetter!

WHAT TO WEAR:

Feel free to wear whatever you would be comfortable wearing for the rest of the day! You will receive your first piece of sorority apparel from your chapter!

Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement

a.k.a. MRABA

Themembershiprecruitmentacceptancebindingagreement (MRABA)isthecontractapotentialnewmember(PNM)signsto receiveabidfromanNPCsorority.PNMswillbeeducated thoroughlyontherecruitmentprocessincludingeducationabout theMRABA.

APNMmustunderstandtheMRABAtheyaresigningisjustthatabindingagreement.BysigningtheMRABA,aPNM acknowledgesthattheyunderstandandagreetoeachofthe conditionslistedinthedocument.Youwillbeprovided opportunitiesforclarificationandhaveanyremainingquestions answeredbeforeyousignthebindingagreement.TheMRABAand theaccompanyingscriptarewrittenandarrangedforreadability andclarityinunderstanding.

Onthenextpagearesomekeyclarificationsaboutrecruitmentand theMRABA.ThePanhelleniccommunity(e.g.,chapterleaders, recruitmentcounselors)havebeeneducatedontheseitems,andwill preventanyinaccurateinformationthatisbeingsharedinthe community.

Staff from the Center of Sorority and Fraternity Development will also be available to answer any questions about the MRABA you may have.

MRABA MRABA

1.APNMhastheoptiontowithdrawfromrecruitmentatanytimeand shouldneverfeelthattheymustcompletetherecruitmentprocess,orfeel forcedtojoinsororityatanypointintherecruitmentprocess.Thisincludes notcompletingtheMRABAiftheyarenotreadytomakeacommitmentto asororityatthattime.

2.APNMhastheoptiontolimittheirchoiceswhencompletingthe MRABA.

OntheMRABA,aPNMisagreeingthattheywillacceptabidfromany sororitytheyrank.Theymustnotbepressuredtorankalloftheirremaining optionsiftheyknowtheywouldnotacceptabidfromthatsorority.

MaximizingoptionsdoesallowthePNMtobeplacedasaquota addition.

Maximizingoptionsdoesnot guaranteeabidtothePNMsfirst preference.

MaximizingoptionsdoesnotmakethePNMmorelikelytoreceivea bidtotheirfirstpreference.

LimitingoptionsdoesnotincreasenordecreasethePNM'schancetobe placedintotheirfirstpreference.

LimitingoptionsdoesnotmakethePNMlesslikelytoreceiveabidto theirfirstpreference.

MaximizingoptionsdoesnotinfluencethePNM'splacementona chapter'slist,aschaptersdonothaveaccesstoknowthepreferenceorder selectedbyaPNM.

Limitingoptionsdoesnot"messup"thecomputersystem.

IfaPNMiscertaintheydonotwanttobeamemberofachapter,they shouldnotlistthechapterontheirMRABA.Insigningthebinding agreement,thePNMisinessencepre-acceptingabidfromanysororitythat theylist.

HAZING POLICY

Hazing,definedasanyactivitywithoutreasonableorlegitimateeducationalvalueexpectedof someoneforthepurposeofinitiation,admissioninto,affiliationwith,orasaconditionfor continuedmembershipinagroupororganizationthathumiliates,degradesorrisksemotional, psychological,and/orphysicalharm,regardlessofaperson'swillingnesstoparticipate.

PENALTIES

Incasesofindividualviolators,appropriatedisciplinaryactionmaybeimposedasoutlinedinthe ResponsibilitiesofCommunityLife:TheStudentCode,Incaseswhereorganizationshave authorizedsuchconduct,lossofprivileges,temporarysuspensionofregistration,orrescissionor terminationofregistrationmaybeimposed,Suchpenaltiesshallbeinadditiontoanypenalties pursuanttothepenallaw(PublicActNumber88-328)whichviolatorororganizationmaybe subject.

Bid Promising Bid Promising

Bidpromising,alsoknownasanoralbid,iscommunicating,whetherviasocialmedia,texting, verbally,etc.,toapotentialnewmemberimplyingthattheywillreceiveabidforamembership. BidpromisingisnottoleratedbythePanhelleniccouncil.Nosororitymembersshouldbe promisingmembership.

Afewexamplesofbid,promisinginclude,(put,arenotlimitedto):

"XYZchapterwouldlovetohaveyou."

"Don'tworry,youarealreadyin”

“We/Ican'twaittoseeyouonbidday.”

"Icansee/wantyouasmylittle.”

IfyouhearofbidpromisingorarepromisedabidweaskthatyoucompleteanInfractionreport withyourRCormemberoftheRecruitmentManagementTeam.Inaddition,ifatanypointyou knowofsomeone,eitherachaptermember,RCorafellowPNM,whohasviolatedthePNMBill ofRights,CPHCodeofEthicsortheBehavioralContract,weaskthatyousubmitaninfraction report.Thisreportmustbefilledwithin30daysoftheallegedinfraction.Thesecanbefilledoutby notifyingyourRCornotifyingtheVPofRecruitment,PanhellenicPresident,oraCFSDstaff member.

Thefinancialrequirementsofjoiningasororityvaryfrom chaptertochapter.Themaincostsassociatedwithbecominga memberattheUniversityofConnecticutconsistofmembership feeseachsemester,one-timenewmemberfees,and miscellaneousfeesspecifictoeachchapter.Abreakdownofnew memberfeeswillbeavailable,foreachchapter,before recruitmentbegins.

Manychapterswillalsohaveadditionalfeeswhichcouldinclude purchasingapparelforrecruitment,buildingfunds,andbadge fees.Inadditiontomandatoryexpenses,theremayalsobe additional,optionalexpensessuchasSisterhoodWeekendTShirts.

Studentsareencouragedtodeterminehowmuchtheywillwant toallocatetotheexpensesatthebeginningofeachsemester.

Wewillhavetheestimatedcostofjoiningforeachchapter availableonthewebsite(http://greeklife.uconn.edu/cph)aswell onthefollowingpages.

Paymentoptions,suchasformsofpaymentandpaymentdue datesvaryfromchaptertochapteraswell.Somechaptersrequire fullpaymentatthebeginningofeachsemesterwhile othershaveimplementedpaymentplans.Itisimportantto considerfinancialobligationsassociatedwithjoiningasorority. Paymentplansarediscussed/createdonanindividualbasis tobestmeetasister’sneeds.Thesearetypicallysplitinto 3partsandareduethroughoutthesemester.

Alpha Omicron Pi

Duescanbepaidinonelargesum,threesums (September,October,January),ormonthlyasoutlinedin theChapterDuesHandout.CorporationFeesarebilled separately,byNationalHeadquarters,andfollowthe paymentplanselectedbytheindividualmember.This paymentplanfollowsasimilarstructureasabove.

Alpha Phi

“A$50dollardiscountisofferedforpayingannual. Thereisastandardinstallmentplanofferingthree paymentspersemester.

Deferredinstallmentsformembersreceivingfinancial aid.

Custompaymentplansavailable.”

Delta Zeta

DeltaZetadoesnothaveanypaymentplanoptions.Bills areaddressedtomembersonthefirstofeachmonthand areexpectedtobepaidbythe10thofthatmonth.Ifa memberisinneedoffinancialassistance,DeltaZeta’s NationalHeadQuartersprovidesanumberofdifferent scholarshipsthatanymemberiswelcomedtoapplyto. Membersarealsowelcomedandencouragedtodiscuss anyconcernsthattheymayhavewiththechapter’s Treasurer,CCDAdvisor,andNationalAdvisor.

ParticipationinprimaryrecruitmentdoesNOTguaranteeyouaninvitationtojoina sorority,anditispossibletogothroughrecruitmentandnotreceiveaninvitationtoa sorority.Thisisamutualselectionprocess,soasmuchasyouarechoosingachapter,they arechoosingyouaswell!Weencourageyoutogointoeverychapterwithanopenmind andthewillingnesstohaveagreatconversation.
