From Our Desks To You Dear Members, Thank you for your continued support of our fundraising efforts. We remain focused on strengthening the Club's financial future while preserving our historic clubhouse. To that end, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kirsten Ellis as Chair of the Facilities Committee, Joanne Ohlman as Chair of the Activities Committee, and Stephanie Petlow as Chair of the Development Committee. Continuing in their leadership roles are Patrick Day, Chair of Food and Beverage; Jo Payne, Chair of Membership; and Frank Tabar, Chair of Finance. The Board of Directors continues to work diligently to position the Club for long-term success. Planning is underway for important capital improvements, including replacement of the roof and improvements to the parking lot. I am grateful to our Board members and committee volunteers whose dedication and hard work make these efforts possible. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me, or Club Manager Sarah Rudd, about volunteering. The strength of our Club has always come from members who generously share their time and expertise, and we always welcome new ideas and perspectives. Summer is one of the most enjoyable seasons at the Club, bringing opportunities to enjoy all that our Club has to offer. Not least of these is our popular Summer Soirée, one of my favorite events of the year! I hope you will join us for this special evening. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow members as we celebrate the season together. The Summer Soirée is just one of the many special events, exciting programs, and engaging activities that enrich the member experience. I would like to recognize the work of Sarah Rudd and her outstanding team and thank them for their dedication and creativity. I am excited with our ongoing partnerships with local nonprofits, including museums, performing arts organizations, and more. These collaborations reflect the University Club's commitment to community engagement while providing meaningful cultural experiences for our members and your guests. I encourage you to explore the Club calendar and take advantage of all that is being offered. There are some truly wonderful opportunities to explore. Warm regards,
Susan M. Bradley University Club President 5 THE 1919 MAGAZINE | SUMMER 2026
From Our Desks To You Dear Members, Summer has officially arrived, and there is no better place to enjoy it than at the University Club. Whether you're joining us for lunch on the patio, dinner with friends, or one of our special events, thank you for making the Club such a vibrant and welcoming community. Your participation is what makes this place so special. Our summer Activities Calendar is filled with opportunities to connect, from educational wine tastings and culinary experiences to our annual Summer Soirée. I hope you'll join us, meet new members, and enjoy everything your Club has to offer. I am grateful to our members who volunteer their time and expertise for our beloved Club. Together you help shape our Club not just for our day-to-day now, but also for our future. Our committees play such a vital role in this endeavor - from planning important capital improvements and caring for our historic clubhouse (Facilities Committee with new Chair Kirsten Ellis), to building support for the Club's long-term future (Development Committee with new Chair Stephanie Petlow), Finance (Chair - Frank Tabar), Membership (Chair - Jo Payne), Food & Beverage (Chair - Patrick Day), and Activities (new Chair - Joanne Ohlman). On the activities front, Joanne brings great new energy and creativity to the post, and she and Activities Director Philip Spadoro look forward to creating engaging programs for everyone. If you have ideas for future events or activities, or would like to get involved in other ways, we'd love to hear from you. As a member-owned organization, our greatest strength and greatest investment in our future is our membership. While guests are always welcome, if you regularly bring the same friends, colleagues, or family members, I encourage you to invite them to become members. There is no better endorsement than a personal invitation, and member referrals continue to be our most successful recruitment tool. I would also like to recognize Jo Payne and the Membership Committee for their outstanding work over the past year. Their dedication to welcoming new members and strengthening our community has been instrumental to the Club's continued growth. We are also excited to welcome our newest members (see pages 17-21). Please introduce yourself when you see a new face around the Club. Those small gestures help create the warm, inclusive atmosphere that has defined the University Club for more than a century. As many of you requested, we continue expanding our selection of creative non-alcoholic beverages to ensure enjoyable options for everyone. Your feedback is invaluable, and we appreciate your ideas as we continue enhancing the member experience. Continued on next page... 6 THE 1919 MAGAZINE | SUMMER 2026

As a reminder, the bar is open daily from 12PM until close. Food service is available 11:30AM– 2PM for lunch and 5-8PM for dinner. A reminder also that there is no regular dinner service when we have special culinary events on. Please check the calendar for those. Thank you for your patience as we continue refining our online payment platform and billing processes. We are making improvements each month and appreciate your understanding during this transition. Finally, please mark your calendar for our Member Appreciation Event on August 21. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce friends to the University Club. If you know someone who may enjoy becoming part of our community, we encourage you to invite them. Member Services is happy to assist with registration, and we are always pleased to offer prospective members a personal tour of the Club. As our summer calendar fills quickly, I encourage you to make reservations early, especially for popular patio evenings and special events. Thank you again for your continued support and for making the University Club such a remarkable community. I wish you and your families a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

He enjoys pickleball and sailing. Molly is studying ceramic arts at SBCC, volunteers at the Vedanta Society, enjoys sailing and is addicted to Pickleball. We both are avid travelers, appreciate good food, the great outdoors, and hanging with our purebred mutt, Lillie. We look forward to shared time with friends and a few good laughs. Thanks for having us.
Leland (Lee) & Karen Montgomery Occupation(s): Karen: I work as a relationship manager for the investment management company Williams Jones in NYC. Lee is retired, he too worked in investments, which is where we met 40 years ago. Hobbies, Passions, & Interests: Karen: I enjoy tennis, hiking, reading, pickleball, travel and good food and wine. Lee likes skiing, tennis, open water swimming, hiking, biking, good food, wine and Scottish whiskey. Lee is hoping to make friends through the Club through the various activities and to perhaps start a whiskey club. Karen: I am enjoying the people, food and atmosphere of the Club.

Nadia & Matt Morgan Occupation(s): Matt is CFO of Cottage Health. Hobbies, Passions, & Interests: We both love to golf, the outdoors (Matt is an avid beach volleyball player), eat good food, enjoy music, hang out with friends, and spend time with our kids. We are recent empty-nesters so we are looking forward to creating new hobbies and passions. We look forward to getting to know other members. We are so excited to be in Santa Barbara!
Drew Purdin (aka DP, Purdy, or Oklahoma) Occupation(s): Aviation Insurance Broker. Hobbies, Passions, & Interests: Watching most sports but playing golf and pickleball. I also enjoying reading, trivia, hiking, cooking, film/tv, and keeping my house plants alive. I would like to make an effort to meet everyone, learning about everyone and their background. I think getting to know someone has a direct impact on personal growth. If my commercial insurance background can be of any assistance, outside of just aviation, I would be happy to help. Otherwise please if we haven’t met come chat or let’s plan an event or meal!
Wendy Scott & John Hanson Occupation(s): We moved to Santa Barbara in 2020 after we retired. Wendy’s career was in Human Resources in the Bay Area where her last role was as SVP of HR for Varian Medical Systems. John’s career was in automotive journalism at Motor Trend and corporate communications at Toyota. Hobbies, Passions, & Interests: Wendy owns a horse who is stabled in Solvang and drives there multiple times a week to ride dressage. She is involved in the Women’s Fund and is on the Boards of the Youth & Family Services/YMCA and the Casa del Herrero where she is also a docent. John is the family chef, having worked his way through college as a cook. He is an avid gardener, birder and restorer of a ‘70 Karmann Ghia he has kept in shape since college. We both enjoy going to the Montecito Y to swim and work out. We participate as Compeers in the Music Academy of the West and enjoy their summer concerts. We look forward to lectures and other events. We appreciate that the Club is close enough to theaters and venues so that we can catch dinner first and a show after. We especially like the Wednesday night music on the patio. We’re also looking forward to having a special place to bring our out of town family and friends for a meal in a lovely atmosphere. Wendy swears that one of these days she will learn Mah Jongg.
