Dear Members,
It is hard to believe another month has already flown by. Valentine’s Day is, sadly, behind us, and I for one am already looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day here at the Club!
Speaking of Valentine’s Day, it was lovely to see so many of you here for our annual Valentine’s Dinner. The evening was delightful, and I especially enjoyed the live string musicians. Did you all enjoy the Bottega Louie treats we got to take home? Thank you to the UClub team for putting their hearts into each and every event they prepare for us (pun intended?).
I know that Sarah and her team have rounded up some really fun, lively Irish musicians for our St. Patrick’s Day mixer on March 17th. I hope you will all be there - I hear there may even be a leprechaun hiding some-where in the Club for young and old to find. Come wearing your favorite green outfits and be prepared to have a great time! (page 13).
It has also been really nice seeing the Club so busy, even during what is usually the slower months of the year here in town. The Lunch & Learn with Architect Anthony Grumbine was a tremendous success and we received a lot of compliments from other club managers who attended. A reminder to those of you who came to the lecture that you will receive your invitations to the follow-up membersonly architectural drawing class soon.
Our next lecture here at the Club will be with our very own member Priya Kapoor, who will be following up on her lectures on college admissions. More information on pages 6-7.
If there are lecture topics you would like to see covered here at the Club, please do let us know. Sarah and her team are more than happy to bring speakers of interest in whenever possible.
We are also very proud to be hosting the first ever UClub Mah Jongg Tournament to help benefit CALM this month. CALM works with children, families, and the community to help prevent child abuse and trauma. Their mission is “to prevent childhood trauma, heal children and families, and build resilient communities through-out Santa Barbara County.” We look forward to hosting more than 60 Mah Jongg players from around Santa Barbara, including many who enjoy Mah Jongg with us every week, for a fun-filled day in support of a good cause, and to introduce them to our Club and what we have to offer.
I hope to see you soon at one of our Tuesdays at the Club buffets, our 1st Thursday Wine Tasting, or perhaps a Bistro Dinner. With the weekly themed menus on Tuesdays, and à la carte options added to Bistro dinners (in addition to the usual three course menu option), there is truly something for everyone every week. Please also join us for monthly UClub Book Club meetings, Empowered Aging, and more.
This is your Club - your oasis in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara to relax, enjoy, work, socialize, meet, and eat! I hope to see everyone here soon.
Finally, our condolences to the Brace and Zakis families on the passing of long time Uclub member Mary Lou Brace. Mary Lou will always be remembered here for her kindness and warm spirit. See her full obituary and memorial information on page 8.
