From Our Desks To You: Dear Members, Wow! If you have been frequenting our fantastic Club these past few months, you are no doubt as impressed as I am with all there is on offer. Our beloved University Club is truly transforming before our very eyes into the vibrant, warm, and welcoming home for our members that we all envisioned.

From exquisite 5-course wine-paired meals and intimate lunches to distinguished speaker presentations, live artist’s demos, and exclusive local arts, music, and theatre promotions; and from our lively and active UClub clubs and societies (including Mah Jongg, Chess, Photography, and -one of my favoritesthe Wine & Spirits Society) to the wonderful events our Club hosts for special occasions (St. Patrick’s Day was so much fun!), the UClub really is the best place in town to connect, celebrate, and grow, together.

Dear Members, Spring is in the air, and with it some of our favorite celebrations here at the Club. If you have not yet joined us for Easter Brunch you are in for a real treat. Join us for the buffet brunch, bottomless mimosas, and our famous Easter egg hunt for the children. Spring also means Mother’s Day as well as Cinco de Mayo. Be sure to check your emails and the UClub member’s calendar online for details and to RSVP before spaces run out.

In addition to our Club events, we are also excited to once again offer you a wonderful lineup of member activities, promotions, and social opportunities. Our Activities Committee under the expert guidance of Anne Luther and Cynthia McClelland have been hard at work filling our calendar with inspiring speakers, presentations, chef’s and artist’s demos, activities, and more. Our UClub clubs and societies are in full swing as well. Be sure to stop in for Chess Club every other Wednesday or join Photography Club on one of their fun outings the 2nd Thursday of every month – all levels welcome at both! Mah Jongg Club is also very active every 2nd and 4th Wednesday as well as new Mah Jongg classes for both beginners (come learn how to play!) and seasoned players scheduled. Of course, without all of you, none of this would be possible. Together, you help make the UClub the wonderful place it is. To that end, a heartfelt thank you a few members who have been especially involved. For all your hard work on behalf of our Club, thank you to: Anne Luther, Cynthia McClelland, Susan Bradley, Leslie Thomas, Donna Will, Ralph and Diane Waterhouse, Mary Ellen Alden, Erin Graffy, Joseph Allen, Helene Glassman, and everyone else who continues to contribute to making the UClub the best place in town.

As always, please do not hesitate to let Sarah and her team know what else you would like to see here at YOUR Club. Spring is in the air, and I am so excited to see what else our Club has in store for us.

To this end, a reminder that if you are flying solo at any time, or even if you are not but you would like to mingle more and meet other members, you are very welcome to indicate in your reservations that you would like to be seated at one of our social tables. Starting this quarter we have a social table set aside at lunch as well.

We are not open for service on Mondays or the weekends (except for Sunday Brunch every 2nd Sunday of the month).

We are, however, available in the admin offices on Mondays, from 10am-2pm (in addition to Tuesdays-Fridays). We can be reached via phone (805 966 0853) or email (MemberServices@uclubsb.org).

Cancellation Policies: A reminder that we do have a 72-hour cancellation policy. For special events and meals, including but not limited to Wine Dinners, Club events, activities, socials, single-seating meals, and more, cancellations can be made up to 72 hours before the event only. Cancellations less than 72 hours before will be charged in full for you and all guests.

A reminder also that changes to reservations after reservation deadlines have passed must be emailed to memberservices@ uclubsb.org. Additions to reservations after a reservation deadline are not permitted without approval. Wait list may be in effect.

Guest Policies: UClub members may invite guests to join them for most meals and member functions (including events, activities, and social club functions). The number of guests each member may bring varies depending on the parameters of each event or activity.

Non-member guests must be invited and accompanied by a member at all times to dine or attend member functions at the Club.

For regular meals you are welcome to add your guests to your member account for payment, or you can have each guest pay for themselves at the conclusion of your meal. Our servers can ring them up with cash or credit card. For member events and activities, your guests will be added to your account for billing.

Parking Stickers: As our Club gets busier with member activities and events, so does our parking lot. If you have not yet received your 2022 UClub parking sticker(s), please let us know. Come see us in the admin offices or call/email for us to mail them out to you.

The UClub offers a variety of meal services with member pricing for you and your guests, including weekly meals, monthly culinary events, and special offerings each month.

Social Tables Are you flying solo? Not solo but you would still like to mingle more and meet other members? For many of our meals and events we have one or more social tables available to help everyone socialize and connect. Starting this quarter we have a social table set up during lunch as well. Simply indicate in the notes on any reservation you make that you would like social seating. We will do our best to accommodate you.

Cooking with Chef David “I wait all winter for the spring seasonal vegetables and I especially love fresh peas. This is a quick recipe for an appetizer, or to keep around for a snack. It can be served with pita, toasted bread, or your favorite chips.” - Chef David

Spring Pea Humus INGREDIENTS: 2 cups shelled fresh peas 3/4 teaspoon cumin seeds, toasted and cooled 1/2 cup fresh cilantro rough chopped 2 garlic cloves slow cooked in olive oil until soft 1/4 cup tahini (Middle Eastern sesame paste) 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

DIRECTIONS: • Cook peas in a saucepan of boiling salted water until just tender, 6 to 10 minutes. Drain and cool.

• Coarsely grind cumin seeds in an electric coffee/spice grinder or crush with a mortar and pestle. Transfer to a food processor. Add cilantro and garlic (to taste) and finely chop.

• Add peas, tahini, lemon juice, salt, and pepper and purée.

UClub Board Membership Committee Chair Susan Bradley joined the Club three years ago. She says: “I work in development at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and utilize the Club for meetings. A business lunch on the terrace in the Santa Barbara sunshine is the best!”

In addition to enjoying work meetings on the UClub’s idyllic, private Sola patio, Susan has found the exciting array of exclusive member events and activities to be a wonderful way to connect with like-minded people. “I appreciate the thought and care the UClub staff puts into organizing events for us. They make it a point to introduce people and arrange seating to encourage conversations where strangers can become friends.”

“My husband Mark and I enjoy entertaining at the Club,” she adds. “It is not uncommon for a dinner reservation made for four to become a table of eight as we join together with others whom we just met that night. The Club has become an extension of our home where we can relax and have fun.”
