5 Assises of Decentralised Cooperation, a meeting held by EU on 10-11 July 2017.

HOW FAR has the multi-stakeholder partnership worked and impacted the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda? On 6th and 7th June 2017 in Brussels, the Policy Forum on Development (PFD) organized a symposium to discuss this question with its members and participants of European Development Days.

Addressing the issue, participants were equipped with summary of an initially conducted survey that cultivates information on where and how multistakeholder partnerships work: its uses, challenges, and impacts. As the survey is designed to better understand the role of partnerships, the group gained valuable insights on how to contribute to development through various examples of financing and the most effective work scheme in pursuing the global 2030 agenda. private sectors, member states, EU institutions/bodies, and academia, as well as other international organizations.

The discussion found out that the majority of the already established cooperations stand for more than 3 years. It was also great finding out that connected stakeholders are satisfied and deem their partnerships relevant with the effort to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. They specifically pointed out that multi-faceted corporations are benefiting in fostering dialogue particularly on issues of common interest; while some other also saw its usefulness in gaining funds to support development.

However, this most tangible form of inclusivity also presents challenges.

Participants of the discussion revealed that, among many, the challenges include lack of resources to sustain collective efforts and coordination matters.

Apart from that, after all, the multi-stakeholder partnerships turn out to be able to heighten dialogue and coordination. Further, and most importantly, it impacts also on policy that includes change of regulation.

In the two-day intense dialogue, participants of the discussion gained exceptional discernment. The presented insights have provided them with tools to develop assistance that best fit the situation and can contribute to the pursuance of 2030 agenda.
