about: Sports Professionals for Brain Research is an organization comprised of distinguished professionals and community leaders deeply committed to UCI’s vision to build an interdisciplinary program that transforms our understanding of the human brain.

Working together with UCI’s leadership and world-class researchers, its goal is to give renewed hope to people struggling with brain-related injuries and brain disorders by fostering cutting-edge neuroscience research.

Utilize the most advanced technologies available to deepen understanding of and identify mitigation strategies for the effects of exposure to contact sports.

Align UCI with scientific priorities and further basic science on the true final frontier—the human brain.

advocates: Provide counsel to the Dean of the UCI School of Social Sciences regarding Neuroscience Initiative goals and priorities

Assist in securing financial and volunteer support from others—individuals, corporations, and/or foundations

Serve as ambassadors for the UCI School of Social Sciences Neuroscience Initiative

Make themselves the primary point of contact between constituents and the UCI School of Social Sciences

Identify and forge strategic partnerships with individual philanthropists and corporations

Sports Professionals for Brain Research is partnering with UCI School of Social Sciences as it embarks on a bold, new venture: Transforming brain research at UCI to deepen the understanding of the dynamic human brain and develop new treatments for brain disorders.

To accomplish these goals, seven schools across the UCI campus (Social Sciences, Social Ecology, Education, Medicine, Engineering, Biological Sciences and Information and Computer Science) together with the Vice Chancellor for Research have joined

forces. UCI is currently establishing the Center for Advanced Brain Imaging and Analysis, a world-class fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) facility that will become the premier institution for cutting-edge brain imaging research. Top faculty from participating schools will collaborate, working side by side to explore fundamental questions about the human brain and to develop, as well as test, novel therapeutics that may one day halt or reverse brain diseases.

mitted to fundraising in collaboration to support this bold goal of establishing UCI as the leader in technological innovation that will drive new strategies to advance brain research.

Few research areas impact both basic and clinical science as broadly as neuroimaging. Members of Sports Professionals for Brain Research bring a wealth of expertise from their perspective fields and their combined knowledge assures that working together, we can transform brain research and deepen our understanding of the human brain.
