Cheers to New Beginnings!

UCI engineering and Orange Coast College students partnered to design and build LuminOCity, one of two Samueli School homes entered in the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon. Pictured on the cover, LuminOCity placed first in both engineering & construction, and market potential. The two-bedroom unit is intended to address homelessness and is designed to be net-zero and significantly cheaper than traditional homes. Think LEGOS made of cold-formed steel. The students plan to donate their award-winning sustainable home to a local shelter that serves at-risk youth.
New is the year, new are the hopes, new is the resolution. We welcome 2024 with strength and kindness.
