Undergraduate Research Opportunities The Undergraduate Research Academy encourages students to reach beyond the classroom by participating in research and creative projects mentored by UCCS faculty. The Academy’s signature event is Mountain Lion Research Day. In 2016, more than 100 students, staff, and faculty showcased their work in a public campus event in Berger Hall.

ENGINEERING The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UCCS is one of the top-ranked engineering schools in the country. The College’s vision stems from the legacy of David Packard, a native of southern Colorado and founder of Hewlett-Packard Company, who spurred the founding of UCCS and the College of Engineering in 1965. Packard’s passion for innovation lives on in our classrooms and labs, where you’ll learn from highly trained instructors who encourage students to ask, “What if…?” and have the expertise to guide you, not to the answer but to the possibilities. In the lab, you’ll explore, create, and connect with professors and other students. Our undergraduate students participate actively in research, setting UCCS apart from other engineering colleges. The College of Engineering and Applied Science inspires students to improve health, welfare, and prosperity throughout the world through technical learning, research, professional practice, internships, and invention.

Electrical and Computer Engineering students are working with faculty on projects with the Department of Energy and with two of the three major U.S. automotive manufacturers to develop better batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. The goal? Better performance with smaller, longer lasting, less expensive battery packs. The newly established National Cybersecurity Center is creating opportunities for students and faculty to work on cuttingedge cybersecurity research. The Center is a partnership between UCCS and other higher education institutions; the military, state, federal, and local governments; as well as private sector resources. Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students complete their education with a one-year senior design project encompassing team-building and real-world problem solving. Our Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice program employs an interdisciplinary approach to capture both the academic liberal arts emphasis and the professional and policy knowledge required to educate criminal justice professionals. The College of Letters, Arts & Sciences is home to studies in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences – and home to more than half of the students at UCCS. Our faculty will teach you to think, to create, to communicate – skills that are highly desired by employers and graduate schools. Outside the classroom, you will have opportunities to work at internships, engage in service-learning opportunities, and participate in research with faculty. Choose from 19 majors and 49 minors in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. BETH-EL COLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES
We develop exceptional nurses and healthier communities by inspiring excellence through nursing leadership and lifelong learning. The Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences will prepare you to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing health care system through innovation in education, practice, research, service, and scholarship. Our College has deep community roots. It was founded by its predecessor in 1904 to provide nurses for the rapidly growing number of tuberculosis patients requiring treatment. In 1997, a community referendum merged Beth-El with UCCS. Our health science programs serve students interested in physical therapy, pre-med, pre-PA as well as those interested in becoming health and wellness specialists or strength and conditioning trainers. We have the only program in Southern Colorado to offer you a pathway to become a registered dietitian as well as a unique program where you can earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years that can lead to becoming a certified athletic trainer. With low student to faculty ratios, we offer you the opportunity to work closely with highly qualified faculty in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical practicum settings. Our state-of-the-art Simulation Learning Center allows realistic encounters with patients. We partner with 500-plus hospitals, health care agencies, and offices around the region. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers bachelor’s degrees in nursing and health care science; master’s degrees in health promotion, sports medicine, sport nutrition, and nursing; doctorate of nursing practice degrees, as well as certificate programs. Our BI students work with real companies and earn awards, like first place honors and investor support at the 2016 Chapman University California Dreamin’ Entrepreneurship Competition. Unique to UCCS, the Bachelor of Innovation encompasses a family of degrees that allows you to pursue a rigorous course of study in your chosen major while also learning the skills of innovation and entrepreneurship.

PROGRAMS
UCCS continually evaluates the needs of students, employers, and the community and creates new degree programs aligned with those needs. Here are a few that we recently created.
Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science This degree provides undergraduate education for a wide variety of health professions - athletic trainer, exercise physiologist, medical physician, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician assistant, cardiac rehabilitation specialist, and strength and conditioning specialist. The degree will prepare you for advanced professional degree programs. If you’re interested in pursuing the Master of Science in Athletic Training through the concurrent degree path, you can select the Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training Prep Option. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 19 percent growth for exercise physiologists between 2012 and 2022. Already, the university has strong ties to the athletic community and will build a sports medicine and performance center, providing further prospects for employment.
Bachelor of Arts in Inclusive Elementary Education Unique in Colorado, this multi-credential teacher education program prepares teachers to successfully meet the needs of all children. Upon completion, you will be recommended for initial licensure in Elementary Education (K-6), as well as two endorsements: ›› Special Education Generalist (ages 5-21) ›› Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, more commonly known as English as a Second Language (K-12) The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 12 percent growth in elementary education hiring, with 6 percent growth in special education hiring (over the 10-year period ending in 2022). Graduates of this program will be in high demand, and this degree will prepare you to work across the spectrum of learning in today’s classrooms.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Education The College of Engineering and Applied Science offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Education in conjunction with the College of Education and the UCCSTeach program. This program starts with math and science curriculum, then broadens it with engineering and technology instruction. Your degree will be conferred by the College of Engineering and sanctioned by the College of Education. This degree represents a paradigm shift by preparing educators with a background in engineering as well as in education, math, and the traditional sciences. Graduates completing this new degree will be eligible for educator licensing in Colorado in both math and science.

ARTS BUILDING The new Ent Center for the Arts, scheduled to open in early 2018, will feature state-of-the-art performance venues, gallery, and other arts spaces for both UCCS and the local Colorado Springs artistic community. The new center will include the Dusty Loo Bon Vivant Theater and the Osborne Studio Theatre with supporting space for the UCCS Music Program, Theatre and Dance Program, Theatreworks, the 240-seat Chapman Foundations Recital Hall, a 750-seat performance space, and a new campus home for the Marie Walsh Sharpe Gallery of Contemporary Art. Additional learning and rehearsal spaces, a large lobby for public receptions, and student engagement spaces will be featured. The venue will be designed to encourage and support working relationships with community cultural organizations and to provide direct public access to performances, exhibits, and classes.

Chancellor’s Leadership Class
UCCSlead Program
The Chancellor’s Leadership Class (CLC) is a selective university honors program designed to create effective leaders at the undergraduate level. CLC scholars contribute over 5,000 hours of community service a year, take a sequence of leadership courses, and each receive a $4,000 annual scholarship.
UCCSlead is a new student leadership development program created to develop engaged and ethical world-changing leaders. The program is open to all undergraduate students and incorporates leadership training, academic coursework, individual mentoring, and engaged leadership experiences. Upon successful completion of the program and graduation, you will receive recognition on a co-curricular leadership transcript, as well as graduation recognition.

LIVE Leadership Program The Launching Integrity, Values, and Excellence (LIVE) Leadership Program is designed to cultivate leadership skills among a dedicated group of emerging student leaders. Open to first-year freshmen, the program combines co-curricular training, mentorship, and applied campus leadership experience with an emphasis on civic engagement. Scholarships What you’ve accomplished in high school and the contributions you’ve made to your community also matter in applying for scholarships. Some of our key scholarships are: ›› The 2016-2017 UCCS Chancellor’s Award is automatically offered to high-achieving, first-time freshmen from Colorado. The maximum award amount is $10,000 over four years ($1,250 per semester). ›› T he Kane Family Foundation awards high-achieving Colorado residents the full cost of tuition, fees, and books for up to four years. The estimated value of the Kane scholarship is approximately $40,000 over four years. ›› The UCCS Presidential Scholars Award, a competitive scholarship for incoming freshmen students who are not from Colorado, is designed to make tuition affordable for the best and brightest students from out of state. ATHLETICS Reach Higher. Compete.
UCCS competes with 16 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s athletic teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), one of the most competitive in the country. For the 2016-17 school year, we added men’s baseball and women’s lacrosse teams and expanded our track and field program. At UCCS, student athletes are supported and applauded both in the classroom and on the field. During the past few years, several teams have gained national recognition. During the 2015-16 season, each UCCS team with a conference tournament qualified for the postseason. Men’s golf, women’s basketball, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and men’s outdoor track and field were all represented in the NCAA postseason.

Live on Campus We offer 15 full-service residence halls, all suite-style. You will share living space with a maximum of three other students. Be close to your classes, eat a home-cooked meal at the newly renovated Lodge or Roaring Fork dining halls, attend a residence hall event, walk to the Recreation and Wellness Center and, best of all, park on campus. With several floor plans available, you’ll find a suite that fits your idea of campus living. You can choose a private room and bath, or maybe you prefer to share a common living room and have your own bedroom. Summit Village and the Village at Alpine Valley house most freshmen, who are required to live on campus for their first year at UCCS. Summit Village includes nine houses named for Colorado ski areas. The Village at Alpine Valley buildings are named after Colorado rivers.

Colorado Springs, a city of nearly 500,000 residents, is small enough to be friendly, but large enough to attract nationally known stores, performers, speakers, and events. And, of course our region has plenty of outdoor activities all year long! With two major hospital systems, a professional soccer team, an Olympic Training Center and affiliated athletic National Governing Bodies, and a variety of industries within health care, tourism, defense, and technology, Colorado Springs provides ample opportunities for UCCS students to test or try out their chosen careers. Beyond the campus boundaries, there are many things to do in Colorado: ›› University Village Colorado (UVC). Just west of campus, students can access this area via an underpass beneath Nevada Avenue. Join the UVC Running Club, check out live music, and eat al fresco in one of over 20 restaurants. ›› Hiking and biking. Colorado Springs is home to more than 120 parks, trails, and open spaces, with the Pike National Forest serving as the city’s backyard. Popular areas include the Garden of the Gods Park, Pikes Peak, Eleven Mile Canyon, Palmer Park, and Cheyenne Mountain State Park. ›› Manitou Springs. Located just 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs at the base of Pikes Peak, this quaint mountain town is full of restaurants, arts, shopping, and events. ADMISSIONS Two Ways to visit UCCS Campus Tours Schedule a visit to walk the campus with a student guide during our daily group tours. You will have the opportunity to meet with an admissions counselor and see our suite-style housing, state-of-the-art library and science labs, human-powered workout machines at the rec center, classrooms, and our view of Pikes Peak. Campus visits are complimentary and last approximately two hours, including a half-hour overview presentation, followed by a 90-minute walk through campus.
Mountain Lion Experience Days Imagine spending a day at UCCS with your peers who share the same academic interests. Mountain Lion Experience Days are major-specific, meaning you will be able to choose a day that is devoted to a major that interests you, such as engineering, nursing, communication, or other majors.
