UCC V OLD WESLEY

I am delighted and honoured to have been asked to serve as President of UCC RFC for the coming season. This season UCC RFC is celebrating its 150th Anniversary. UCC is the oldest rugby club in Munster and the third oldest in Ireland. Founded in 1872 when UCC was still known as Queen’s College Cork, UCC Rugby was the first sports club in college, and has defined the look of sports in UCC through its iconic Skull & Crossbones emblem. Today we welcome Old Wesley RFC to the Mardyke for this our annual colours match. I would like to wish them and their President, Robbie Love well for the season. A colours match adds significantly to the occasion, including have a sold out pre-match lunch on the UCC campus. It is also a big day for the players who are winning their first colours today, I wish them well. I hope we have a great game of rugby and while I obviously wish for a UCC win, I know we can all return to the clubhouse and enjoy the hospitality.

Finally, I would like to thank our sponsors and commercial partners for their continued support of the club, especially today’s match day sponsor, Bon Secours Hospital Cork.

Men’s health, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s suicide is a growing topic in our society.

Every year during the month of November an annual event around growing moustaches or other facial hair aims to raise both funds and awareness for this very relevant topic.
