BERKELEY M.E.T. ADVANTAGE

DENISE ROBLES BIOENGINEERING & BUSINESS, ‘24 Throughout her entire undergraduate career, Denise conducted research with bioengineering Professor Aaron Streets, focusing on the role of centromeric regions in DNA as root causes of genetic mutations, diseases, and aging. She also interned with the San Antonio military, exploring the use of nanomagnetic particles for neuron stimulation to aid veterans with brain injuries. In January 2023, Denise participated in a College of Engineering-affiliated trip to Saudi Arabia, where she gained insights into potential career opportunities and graduate programs. She is currently working full-time at Mercer as a health and life sciences consultant.

INTEGRATED CURRICULUM Study business, entrepreneurship, and technology while gaining handson practice. Students use labs and tools for prototyping, fabrication, and collaboration including the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation and Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship.

VENTURE CAPITAL AND ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION Budding entrepreneurs can access seed funding as well as in-kind services to launch and grow new ventures. Our students participate in simulations, experiential talks and networking events held on campus year-round.

INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS AND INTERNSHIPS With a robust engineering and business alumni network, students gain unparalleled access to internships and career coaching with exciting technology and business employers worldwide.

ISABELLE-STERLING PELOSO MECHANICAL ENGINEERING & BUSINESS, ‘24 During her time in M.E.T., Elle explored her passion for aerospace through technical internships at SpaceX and Relativity Space. Elle also recently completed her Masters in Science in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley. She looks forward to continuing her career at SpaceX as a Dragon Mission Control operator.

Explore the fundamentals of computer science and electrical engineering, while taking courses in subjects such as finance, competitive strategy, and leadership.

Develop a fundamental understanding of materials from the nano to macro scales while gaining computational skills and business acumen.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (ME)

Delve into topics from robotics to energy science, control systems design to biomaterials, as well as coursework in macroeconomics and marketing.

Select M.E.T. Engineering Undeclared + Business to explore one of the six M.E.T. engineering options your first year. This track is only available to freshman applicants.

There are two pathways to apply to M.E.T., as an incoming First Year or a Berkeley Engineering Continuing Student in an M.E.T. engineering track junior year.

ALAN ZHANG MECHANICAL ENGINEERING & BUSINESS, ‘25 Alan and a few other M.E.T. students co-founded VTOL at Berkeley; together they build human-carrying VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft prototypes. He is also a budding YouTube influencer on building electric aircrafts with over 4M views.

CONTINUING STUDENT ADMISSIONS ADMISSIONS PROCESS AND TIMELINE The goal of the admissions review process is to holistically evaluate an applicant’s overall fit for the program. To give voice to their story, all applicants are required to submit a video essay in addition to their written essays.

Early-March: Applications open

Late-March: Submission deadline. You must press the “Submit Application” button on the Review page by 4:00pm (PT) by the submission deadline. Late applications and/or materials will not be accepted.

WHO CAN APPLY Current UC Berkeley College of Engineering sophomores majoring in an M.E.T. academic track are eligible to apply to the M.E.T. program during the spring of their sophomore year. If admitted, students will join M.E.T. during their junior year.

Please check our Continuing Student Admissions webpage for official dates.

Students enrolled in any other College at UC Berkeley, or admitted as junior transfers to UC Berkeley, are not eligible to apply to the M.E.T. program. In addition, we cannot review applications from students who’ve already earned a bachelor’s degree.

Late-May: Last day to withdraw your application. If you wish to withdraw your application from consideration you must do so via e-mail by 4:00pm (PT) by the submission deadline. E-mails should be sent to met@berkeley.edu
