CHARITY ACCURSO, PhD Dean College of Allied Health Sciences
THE NEXT BREAKTHROUGH BEGINS WITH YOU At the University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health Sciences, we educate and train the next generation of allied health care providers to deliver high-quality service in their respective fields. Our college is comprised of four unique hubs of health care education, research and training: • School of Social Work • Department of Clinical and Health Information Sciences • Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders • Department of Rehabilitation, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences In the past five years, we have increased our enrollment to meet the growing need in the fields of allied health. We are at a critical moment, focused on advancing our core work for broader impact. Our priorities include: • Preparing students for success with expanded financial support, particularly during the last two years of schooling, a critical time when clinical training requirements prohibit many students from working part-time to cover tuition. • Providing students with the latest technology so they can enter the workforce with knowledge of the equipment and technology relevant to the latest job opportunities. • Investing in our student support infrastructure, our faculty and research resources and our community-facing clinics. With your support, we can accelerate our growth to not just graduate more students, but fully prepare them to be expert, compassionate providers who act as leaders in their fields. Together, we will advance the health and vitality of our region for generations to come. The next chapter begins with you.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE 3
PREPARE STUDENTS FOR SUCCESS We have a responsibility to do all we can to prepare our students for future success. This means financially supporting them as they complete their education and allowing them to train using the newest technology, so they enter the workforce fully equipped.
Funding priorities: • Completion scholarships: Providing financial support for a student’s final two years of schooling. This is when clinical training requirements prohibit many students from working part-time to cover their tuition. • Equipment and technology: Ensuring students train on the latest health care technology, with updated teaching labs, enhanced simulation software for skill development and new exam preparation tools for professional credentials.
“My scholarship has significantly eased the financial challenges of graduate school, allowing me to focus on my academic and clinical growth while deepening my involvement in the Cincinnati community. As I begin my second year in the UC Doctor of Physical Therapy program, I can confidently say that the faculty, staff and my peers have created a learning environment that far exceeds the high expectations I held when I started.” KAITLYN HELD, CAHS ’26 Eugenia S. Thomas Doctor of Physical Therapy Scholarship Student leader, UC Open School Free Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul Co-lead student physical therapist, UC DPT Pro Bono Clinic
SUPPORT THE CREATION OF NEW KNOWLEDGE Strategic faculty growth and student research investments will drive breakthroughs and ensure long-term sustainability, while also attracting the best and brightest educators and researchers in their respective fields.
Funding priorities: • Endowed faculty chairs and professorships: Faculty chairs encourage interest from high-level candidates and provide solid support to recruit and retain quality faculty. • Pilot grants and student research support: Early-stage research awards can support new ideas with seed funding, while student research funds allow students to attend professional conferences and grow as future researchers and clinicians.
ADVANCE THE HEALTH AND VITALITY OF THE REGION Caring for our community is how we give back to the residents of Greater Cincinnati. We have strengthened our ties to the community and beyond through our partnerships, providing pro bono clinics for physical and occupational therapy and by launching several local clinics and hosting service-oriented events.
Funding priorities: • The UC Speech and Hearing Clinic: Our in-house clinic serves pediatric and adult clients with communication needs, while providing hands-on training for students from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. • Clinic staffing and programmatic support will allow us to add physical therapy and occupational therapy student training and patient care. This will allow for interdisciplinary and firsthand training for students and increase care options for uninsured community members.
