ALUMNI Jordan Letson

BFA Acting, 2014

Jordan has been keeping busy since she graduated in 2014. She has been contracted with Southwest Shakespeare Company (SSC) in Mesa, AZ, for two seasons now. She landed the roles of Goneril in King Lear and Audrey in As You Like It for SSC's Winterfest Repertory. She then played the coveted role of Yelena in Chekov's Uncle Vanya (Zoni nomination for best actress) directed by Harold Dixon.

She also sang in the Ensemble for Di the world premiere of Spellbound! (a musical based on Cymbeline) which opened at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Last October, she was Mistress Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, delightfully set during the 1950’s. Upcoming roles at SSC include Emilia in Othello and the Courtesan in The Comedy of Errors for this year's Winterfest. She also works with Burning Suns Entertainment, which produces "Knowledge Nuggets" for Adobe Software and can be found on YouTube. When she’s not acting in Phoenix, she’s at home with her husband and two cats in Tucson, and enjoys hiking, yoga and karaoke.

Clayton Froning

BFA Acting, 2006

Note The three most important things Clayton did during his time in the UA Theatre program were understudy the role of Hamlet, which taught him what pressure really feels like; join the Charles Darwin Experience, which taught him how to listen; and play Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts I and II, which taught him everything else. Clayton worked multiple seasons at Paciic Rep, where he did several more old timey plays, nished oo that EMC card, joined the AEA, and hasn’t done a play since. He’s done some one-acts and “what not,” he says. He's been living in Los Angeles for eight years, and although he loves Los Angeles, Tucson will always have superior Mexican food! Clayton is an active member of LA's improv comedy scene, and he writes, directs, and hams it up in short lms and sketches every chance he gets. He's also recurring on MTV's Teen Wolf this season, which is super fun.

The UA Theatre Fund for Excellence supports research and conference travel, enriching our students' experiences in multi-layered ways. One example is that it assisted me in presenting work I had done to help production students make sense of rules affecting their safety and that of the performers and audience members around them. Besides the work itself benefiting our students, that conference presentation resulted in a published article and cultivated Deanna Fitzgerald relationships with industry experts who visited here to work UA Professor with our students. As a result of my growing conference leadership, last semester I advised the student who engineered the snow solution for Arizona Repertory Theatre’s production of Reckless (which was distinct in that it gave us multi-location control) to submit a proposal for presentation of it at the national USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology) conference. The work she developed here was selected and will be Reckless (2015). showcased to a national audience of theatre professionals in March, because of your gifts. DRAMATURG’S NOTES One of the reasons The Comedy of Errors is so special is that Shakespeare’s new and improved take on this ancient story first appeared in the First Folio printed in 1623. Shakespeare’s First Folio is the first complete collection of 36 of his plays printed in one book to be distributed amongst, and consumed by, the theatre-loving public of 17th century England.

We would not have this witty gem today without the Folio. The story itself is an adaptation of Plautus’ Menaechmi about two twin brothers who unknowingly discover each other in a series of hilarious collisions. Shakespeare’s rendition includes a second set of twins further escalating the madness. In this foundational work, we see Shakespeare beginning to explore a world of magic and intrigue that would recur in some of his later plays, including The Tempest.

Elizabethan popular culture had an obsession with exotic places and exotic magic. Ephesus made a perfect backdrop for Comedy because it had just the right amount of darkness and mystery to accommodate such an outrageous plot. It was known as a magical city, welcoming magicians and sorcerers from all over the region and playing host to the Temple of Artemis, a goddess often invoked for protection in daily Ephesian life. Some members of Shakespeare’s audience would have been keenly aware of Ephesian mystical tradition since much of the fiction popular in his day centered on subjects of this ilk.

All of this otherworldly power makes its way into Shakespeare’s play as well. The perceived magic of Ephesus breathes down our necks as we stumble through the action trying to keep up with the tangle of twins unfolding before us. The characters sometimes believe magic threatens their sanity and their safety as they encounter more and more inexplicable complications with their own identities. In truth, simple human ignorance is the cause of the chaos, much to our amusement.

As we reach the height of the hilarity, we are left to discover that the mystery we fear on the outside may simply be chance working her magic to bring us all together again, right where we belong.

PROFILES Brent Gibbs (Director) – heads the Acting Program at the UA where he teaches Acting and Stage Combat. A certified teacher and Fight Director with the Society of American Fight Directors, he has taught master classes in stage combat around the U.S. and Europe, and has worked on fights for theatres from Thailand to New York.

He was the first fight director to win the Arizona State Theatre Award for Excellence in Choreography. As the Artistic Director for Arizona Repertory Theatre, he has directed Macbeth; Much Ado About Nothing; King Lear; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Hamlet; Pericles; Henry IV, Part I; Romeo & Juliet; Titus Andronicus; Love’s Labour’s Lost; The Taming of the Shrew; As You Like It; Julius Caesar; Cymbeline and Othello, as well as many others.

Sam Kate Toney (Costume Designer) – is a first-year MFA Costume Design candidate.

She received her BFA in Design and Technology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May of 2012.

She has since worked professionally at The Hangar Theatre in New York, Lexington Children’s Theatre in Kentucky, Playmakers Repertory Company in North Carolina, and most recently, the Utah Shakespeare Festival. She is extremely excited to be starting her relationship with Arizona Repertory Theatre!

Andrea Pratt (Scenic Designer) – is a second - year graduate student with an emphasis in Scenic Design. Her theatre education began at Oklahoma University where she designed her first show in 2012, Seussical the Musical. Since then, she has designed The Fantasticks, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and A Winter’s Tale throughout her education. In addition to her designs, Andrea was the Charge Artist for the recent productions of Cabaret, Othello, Frankenstein and Oklahoma!. Outside of the UA, Andrea does freelance painting for ATC and Arizona Broadway Theatre, teaches scene painting at Marana High School and at ATC’s comprehensive Summer on Stage program. Andrea is honored to have worked on the First Folio team to help bring this historical project to life.

Carlos Sanchez (Lighting Designer) – is a senior in the BFA Design and Technology program. Previous Arizona Repertory Theatre production credits include the UA Studio Series productions boom and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. He is thrilled to be designing for The Comedy of Errors as his senior BFA Capstone project. Carlos would

like to extend his deepest appreciation to his friends and family for all their support over the last four years.

Marcus Myler (Sound Designer) – is a sophomore in the BFA Design and Technology program. The Comedy of Errors is his first main stage design at the UA. Other UA credits include Assistant Sound Designer on Reckless. Marcus would like to thank his family and friends for supporting him.

Hanna Lockhart (Technical Director) – is excited to be the Technical Director for the first time at Arizona Repertory Theatre. She is proud to be part of both The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest as her senior capstone project. Some of her past credits at Arizona Repertory Theatre include: Assistant Technical Director for Cabaret and A Little Night Music, and Master Carpenter for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Man Who Came to Dinner.

Professionally, she has worked as Master Welder at Heritage Theatre Festival for its 2015 season, as well as a carpenter and welder at PCPA Theaterfest for its 2014 season. She would like to thank her friends and family for their continued support, and her team in the scene shop for all of their hard work!

Fatimah Amill (Stage Manager) – is thrilled to be Stage Managing again at Arizona Repertory Theatre. Her past Arizona Repertory Theatre credits include Stage Manager for Cabaret and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Deck Manager for The Full Monty. She would like to thank her Mom and Dad; her sisters, Thalia and Blanca; and her boyfriend, Omar, for their never-ending love and support.

All Films in this Series Begin at 7pm Inside the UA Center for Creative Photography & are FREE to the Public Join faculty and students from the School of Theatre, Film & Television as we explore the history of lmmaking in Tucson! Ever since the days of silent movies, Tucson has been a key location for Hollywood lmmakers. The western was the most popular genre, naturally, with Old Tucson serving as the shooting site for dozens of classic lms, starring legends including John Wayne, Paul Newman and Kirk Douglas. But non-westerns were also lmed in Tucson, with lmmakers taking ad advantage of the beautiful desert environment and the unique architecture of the city itself.

Over the course of the year, we will move from classic westerns of the '50s to more contemporary hits. The Widescreen Wednesdays program features not only the screening of a complete feature lm, but a lively and informative introduction to each lm by a UA professor. Plus, a student from the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film & Television will present one of his or her short lms!

PROFILES David Morden (Voice & Text Coach) – is an Assistant Professor at the School of Theatre, Film & Television, where he directed Lend Me a Tenor and Inspecting Carol for Arizona Repertory Theatre and Medea/Medea/Medea Redux for the UA Studio Series. He is an Artistic Associate at The Rogue Theatre, where he has acted in and directed many shows, including Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, Waiting for Godot, Measure for Measure, Richard III, and Shipwrecked!, among many others. The theaters where he has worked as Dialect and/or Text Coach include Arizona Repertory Theatre (Cabaret, Othello, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Nine, The Fantasticks), Santa Cruz Shakespeare, Arizona Opera, The Rogue Theatre, and ACT Theatre. Internationally, David has performed and taught at Jagriti Theatre in Bangalore, India. ~ ACTOR PROFILES ~ Lauren Bardon (1st Merchant) – is a senior in the BFA Acting program. Her previous Arizona Repertory Theatre credits include Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, Emilia in Othello, Patti in The Full Monty and Amanda Wingfield's understudy in The Glass Menagerie. She would like to thank Brent Gibbs for all of the guidance through the years and Kevin Black for being such an inspirational actor to work with. Kasey Caruso (Antipholus of Syracuse) – is a sophomore BFA Acting student from Phoenix, AZ. Kasey is beyond excited to be a part of the repertory cast for these two magnificent shows. His credits from Arizona Repertory Theatre include Othello (First Messenger), Barefoot in the Park (Paul Bratter/Telephone Man) and Reckless (Tom u/s). Kasey is fascinated by conspiracy theories, enjoys drinking coconut water, hates when people touch his belly button and loves spending time with his girlfriend, Helena. Zackry Colston (Dromio of Ephesus) – You may have seen me in past shows here, or local films/comedy-clubs around town.

Shout out to Brando, PSH, and Hoffman for footsteps to follow. This performance is dedicated to my little brother busting his ass for The Marines and my little sister busting her ass in second grade. Hope you all dig the show.

Alex Gossard (Duke Solinus) – is making his Arizona Repertory Theatre debut in The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest. He has previously understudied in Arizona Repertory Theatre’s A Little Night Music and Cabaret. He has performed for numerous local theaters in the Seattle area, including playing Enjolras in Les Misérables (Studio East Theatre). He also received a prestigious 5th Avenue Award for his work with the Redmond Theatre for his role in Singin’ in the Rain.

Charlie Hall (Doctor Pinch) – Arizona Repertory Theatre credits include Dave in The Full Monty, Fredrik in A Little Night Music and Herr Schultz in Cabaret. Mr. Hall dedicates his performance in loving memory of his sister and father and thanks the artistic team, cast and crew, and his Mama for their endless support. Other credits include roles with the UA's Hanson Film Institute; opening for The Brian Setzer Trio; Artifact Dance Project's 15-city tour of China; 10 years with The Gaslight Theatre; alumni of Broadway Theatre Project (Artistic Director: Ben Vereen); he co-stars in The Music of The Blues Brothers, with The Bad News Blues Band and is co-founder of Tucson’s powerhouse 11-piece soul band, The Socials. www.MeetTheSocials.com Abigail Grace Harms (Courtesan – a senior acting major from Sierra Vista, AZ, is so happy to be sharing the stage with such an incredible cast. Ethan Kirshbaum (Antipholus of Ephesus) – is from Prescott, AZ, and is a senior BFA Musical Theatre major. He is excited to be working with director Brent Gibbs once again, and would like to thank him for the opportunity and his trust. Ethan would also like to send endless love and thanks to his mom, dad, brother, sister and dogs for all of their unconditional love and support in his pursuit of performing over the years.

Ethan’s other favorite roles at Arizona Repertory Theatre include Jerry in The Full Monty, Cassio in Othello and Tim Timko in Reckless. Ethan is also excited to announce that he will be moving to New York after graduating this spring to pursue television, film and theatre.

Nicole Knox (Shadow Player) – is ecstatic to be back on the Arizona Repertory Theatre stage, where she was last seen as Frenchie in Cabaret. She previously attended the University of Wyoming, but didn't love the cold so she moved back to the sun. She is a sophomore BFA Musical Theatre major. Keenan Larson (Dromio of Syracuse) – is a junior in the BFA Musical Theatre program at Arizona Repertory Theatre. He is playing both Dromio of Syracuse in The Comedy of Errors and Adrian in The Tempest. He also composed all of the music for The Tempest, and is the Musical Director for the show.

His past roles at Arizona Repertory Theatre include Ernst Ludwig in Cabaret, Lodovico in Othello and Peter Shmidt in Frankenstein.

Keenan would like to thank his roommates/ friends at The Water House and Scott Murdock for the patient encouragement, laughs, freestyle raps and mental support through the creation of this show.

Claire Marie Mannle (Emilia/Nell) – is a Post-Graduate Fellow in Acting. She teaches studio sections of Acting for the General College Student, A Survey of Directing, as well as the Commedia dell’Arte intensive for Acting VI. A New York City native, she

came to Tucson via Los Angeles where she worked with The Grand Guignolers, Cornerstone Theater Company, A Noise Within, The Antaeus Academy, and SITI Company. She has her MFA from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and her BA from Smith College.

Claire is interested in new adaptations of classic stories, ensemble-based devising, clown, mask work and Shakespeare.

Marissa Munter (Clerk) – is a sophomore Musical Theatre major and Business Administration minor in the Honors College from Valencia, CA, and is thrilled to be a part of The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest! Some of her favorite roles include Lulu (Cabaret), Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) and a ballerina in Kopit and Yeston's Phantom. “A huge thank you to Brent and to my friends and family for all their love and support!”

Scott Murdock (Angelo) – is a junior in the Acting program and thrilled to be making his fourth appearance on the Arizona Repertory Theatre stage with a Shakespeare repertory. Recent credits include: Reckless (Lloyd), Frankenstein (Hans Metz) and Othello (Montano) with Arizona Repertory Theatre, Below the Belt (Ray) with The Cobra Players and the film, Bang! (Allen). He also had a local commercial air during the 2015 Superbowl with Vantage West Credit Union. He studied as a BFA Sound Design student and worked as the Assistant Sound Designer for Arizona Repertory Theatre’s The Fantasticks and A2 for Oklahoma!

He is in his fourth year as a D.J. at Satyr Entertainment. He gives thanks to his evermore supportive parents as well to Keenan and Megan, the buds.

Cera Naccarato (Luciana) – is making her fourth and fifth stage appearances in Arizona Repertory Theatre’s productions of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest as a BFA Acting junior. She was previously seen in Arizona Repertory Theatre's Reckless and Othello, in addition to understudying Elizabeth in Frankenstein.

She is from Phoenix, AZ, where she studied theatre and dance since the age of four. She would like to thank her amazing friends (especially Aubrey and Tyler) whose support has pushed her further than she ever imagined going.

Max Protzen (Executioner) – is making his debut in The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest. He is originally from Albuquerque, NM. He has performed in more than 60

PROFILES productions in 14 years. He would like to thank Jessica Barkl for helping him discover his passion and pushing him toward a career in theatre. He would also like to thank his family for their support and undying love.

Tyler Reaser (Servant) – is so excited to be a part of this amazing opportunity to present both The Tempest and The Comedy of Errors! She is a junior BFA Acting major from Phoenix, AZ. Tyler has thoroughly enjoyed performing in past Arizona Repertory Theatre shows including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello and Reckless, as well as understudying in Lend Me a Tenor and The Full Monty. She would love to thank Brent Gibbs for giving her this incredible opportunity, Aaren for running lines with her despite being a science major, her family and friends, and of course, her cat, Tazz.

Marissa Salazar (Shadow Player) – is a transfer student in the BFA Acting program.

This will be her first show at Arizona Repertory Theatre. She is very fortunate to be a part of the understudy and cast of The Comedy of Errors and The Tempest. She feels blessed to work with Brent Gibbs and a fantastic set of actors. There was not a day that went by where she didn’t laugh hysterically in the rehearsal room. This has a been a fun and memorable experience.

Jaclyn Stickel (Adriana)– is a senior BFA Musical Theatre major and a Southern California native. Recently, she was seen as Pam in The Full Monty with the Arizona Repertory Theatre. She was also in Reckless as Doctors #1 and #5, one of whom sported a large, crazy wig. Jaclyn has performed in shows such as The Sound of Music (Maria) and The Drowsy Chaperone (Janet van de Graaff). Jaclyn would like to thank her parents for their constant support and love, as well as that of her closest friends.

Kailyn Toussaint (Shadow Player) – is a sophomore pursuing a BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in Family Studies and Human Development. She is thrilled to be making her Arizona Repertory Theatre debut! You may have seen her going on as an understudy for Fraulien Kost in Arizona Repertory Theatre’s Cabaret last semester.

Some of her favorite credits include Phyllis Dale in 42nd Street, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors and Charlotte (u/s) in A Little Night Music. She would like to thank the faculty, the BFA class of 2018, her family and friends, and most importantly, God,

Tyler West (Officer) – is very excited to be making his debut with the Arizona Repertory Theatre. At Sabino High School, he played Clarence in It's A Wonderful Life, as well as working with Live Theatre Workshop in many shows for their family theatre series. Tyler grew up in Tucson, AZ, and wants to thank his family, friends, Kris Kissel and everyone at Live Theatre Workshop for their support.

David Weynand (Aegon)– teaches acting at the UA School of Theatre, Film & Television on an Acting Fellowship. Last season, you would have seen David as Alphonse in Frankenstein and Brabantio in Othello. Training: MFA in Directing - Texas State University, BFA in Acting - Theatre School, DePaul University’s professional conservatory (Goodman School of Drama).

Recently: Donnie in Stella & Lou at the Invisible Theatre. Off-Broadway (one man) Night Just Before the Forest; UBU Repertory; Ron - The Ice Fishing Play - Samuel Beckett.

Favorite regional roles: Dvornichek in Rough Crossing - Cincinnati Playhouse, Etienne - A Flea in Her Ear - St. Louis Repertory Theatre.

Other Theatres: Paper Mill Playhouse, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Hampton Playhouse, Walnut Street Theatre, Wisdom Bridge, Steppenwolf and Capital Repertory.

Alec Williams (Balthasar) – is from Mill Valley, CA, and will be acting in his second show here at Arizona Repertory Theatre.

He made his debut last year in Othello and looks forward to his future in this program. He would also like to thank the talented cast and production team for such a wonderful experience.

Seating Policy: Productions begin on time. Generally, each theatre will open for seating 30 minutes before curtain. There is no late seating.
