The most valuable part of my time at UArizona was developing cultural sensitivities and becoming open to new perspectives from individuals from different parts of the world. My advice to students is to be open to explore. Take in all the experiences that you can. This is the best time to forge long terms bonds and build your personality. The knowledge and skills I learned as a student helped me pitch a multimillion-dollar business idea right out of school, launching me on a career path. The ability to participate in co-curriculars like intramurals, etc. to build personality and character are very helpful. For most people from India, the adjustment to weather & climate is easy. There is also a host family privilege that can help new students bridge the transition. “The best part of studying at UArizona was the access to experts in several disciplines. Students get to meet some of the best professors in academia, do research with and interact and learn from them.”

Apart from the education, I enjoyed using the amazing sports facilities, some great treks in and around Tucson and most importantly the Mexican food. Being a vegetarian, this was welcome! UA has a perfect blend of simplicity and complexity. The campus is in a small town which really helps in concentrating in your academics because it is far away from all the hustle and bustle of a large metro city. And yet, the university itself is large campus, spread across acres of land having a separate building for each field of study, providing any major that one would think of pursuing along with the highest standards in the world.
MANNU WAHAL Bachelor’s Degree, Economics, Class of 2014 Marketing Analyst, My Supplier Canada My interactions drew me to taking active parts in different clubs on the campus that ranged from Co-ed Business Fraternities, Missionary Clubs, Film-Making Organizations and even an on-campus Marketing society. I also thoroughly enjoyed working several different jobs on campus during my six years stay at the university. One of these jobs was tutoring international students in a bunch of foreign languages other than English e.g., Hindi/Urdu, Swahili, Cantonese, Mandarin and Swedish etc. I tutored Hindi and thoroughly enjoyed it. I made friends from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Pakistan, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Sudan as well as with kids coming from all over the United States. “What struck me the most about the University of Arizona was its rich diversity. It was a complete joy to meet and make friends with people from around the world.”

Tucson is lovely. The climate was well suited to me, and I enjoyed every part of campus as I was a resident in the LaAldea dorm. I used to travel to Phoenix, too, which is nearby. I would advise students to choose courses according to your liking. My master’s course helped me in understanding more of my compassion towards the circular economy and resource management. Tucson itself will give you a lot of opportunities once you are done with your studies, whether you stay there or go anywhere in the world...Every wildcat will do awesome in their life.

The courses, professors, opportunities, teamwork, networking, experience - everything will help you go a long way in life. Work smart to achieve great things. I advise students to be a team player – network with others and you will never be alone. And ask for help - you don’t have to do it all by yourself. Leadership, communication, empathy, passion, patience, agility, etc., are key skills you want to hone, to ensure a successful career in technology consulting. Remember, both successes and failures will help you grow. “Be open to learning, be flexible and curious. Get out of your comfort zone and you will be challenged every day in different ways.”
