The basic qualities considered essential for students taking the Joint Degree in Law and Business Administration and Management include an awareness of and an interest in finding just solutions to the economic, political and social problems of our times and in aspects related to business operation and management together with the legal issues that can arise in a business context.

This is an officially recognised University Degree, valid throughout the European Higher Education Area.

Students on the Joint Degree course should be capable of critical thinking and should possess the capacity to reason and work as part of a team. They should be able to present their arguments persuasively and fluently, both in writing and orally, and should possess an aptitude for understanding abstract ideas, the ability for creative thought, a sociable outlook and an expansive view of the world. They will need an aptitude for studying economics, business organisation and human resources, accounting and cost management information systems and the legal tools necessary for future professional practice, in order to acquire the knowledge and skills which will enable them to tackle and resolve the specific legal problems arising on a daily basis competently, decisively and with authority.

Holders of this Degree will have received an extremely versatile education, enabling them to perform a wide range of functions, whether managerial or in technical support, in both the private and public sectors. These include, among others:

Business creation and management Purchase, operations, marketing, financial and human resources management Professional practice as a lawyer or solicitor, either individually or as an associate Teaching Access to the public sector as, among other possibilities, a judge, public prosecutor, notary or land registrar, and in practically all State and Regional Administration departments. Legal advisor in the public and private sector Auditor and Certified Public Accountant Consultant Financial analysis and control in business management

Access to Higher Degree programmes Students may continue their officially recognised studies by taking a Master’s or Doctoral Degree course. The University of Alcalá offers various officially recognised Master’s Degree programmes (lasting either 1 or 2 years), oriented either to professional practice, adapted to the needs of the market, or to academic activity, leading to the preparation and presentation of a Doctoral thesis. Furthermore, graduates of this Degree are qualified to study the Master’s Degree in Law, which in turn qualifies graduates for professional practice as a lawyer or solicitor.
