A CHECKLIST FOR COLLEGE Please use the checklist on the inside of this brochure to help you plot your course for college. This guide gives suggestions about “what” to do and “when.” UAFS is here to help you on your college path.

SOPHOMORE YEAR n Take the ACT Aspire to help you prepare for the real thing next year.

n Get with your school’s guidance counselor

about college and make sure you are in the right classes. Are you following Arkansas Core Standards?

n Get your grades up! A higher GPA can lead to a higher academic scholarship.

n Make a folder of achievements and awards for future reference.

n Get involved with extracurricular and

volunteer activities that you are passionate about. Keep a list for future reference.

JUNIOR YEAR n Take an ACT prep course and practice for the ACT.

n Start visiting schools. Schedule a campus visit online or attend a UAFS Den Day. admissions.uafs.edu/admissions/den-day

n Research and start applying for scholarships.

n Keep updating and adding to your list of extracurricular and volunteer activities and achievements.

n Boost your GPA. This is the last year your GPA will make an impact on admissions boards and scholarship committees.

n Write your scholarship essays. Don’t wait until the last minute. Have a teacher or two proofread them and offer advice.

n Make a list of deadlines for financial aid, scholarships, and admissions.

n Start asking for recommendation letters.

SENIOR YEAR AUGUST

n Apply! admissions.uafs.edu n Finalize your resume, recommendation letters, and scholarship essays.

SEPTEMBER

n Turn in scholarship applications.

OCTOBER

n Complete the FAFSA. fafsa.ed.gov n Apply for campus housing.

NOVEMBER

n UAFS priority scholarship deadline. n Attend a Den Day. FEBRUARY

n Rank your top 3 college choices. n Visit schools one last time.

MARCH

n Register for New Student Orientation.
