What’s On Guide
A Theatre for Everyone

2025 is the theatre’s 157th anniversary and sees us celebrating a decade operating as an independent venue.
It gives us great pleasure to shape a bespoke programme of shows, events and tours for our audiences, who visit from across the North East and further afield.
Within this What’s On Guide you’ll find a brilliant mix of shows. From musicals to comedy, talks and dance; there really is something for everybody. Highlights include visits by national treasure and ‘Hairy Biker’ Si King, Strictly favourites’ Amy Dowden and Carlos Gu; and our much loved Easter Panto, which this year is the magical The Wizard of Oz.
Regular visitors to the theatre, or those passing by, may have noticed our new 1867 Cafe Bar, which is also the new home for our in-house Box Office. The cafe is open from 10am on weekdays and for pre-show hospitality too. Why not pop in for a coffee, light bite, or to pick up tickets for an upcoming show?
Be sure to look out for our programme of community events that will be taking place in the cafe and the adjoining 1867 Hall (former Bistro Bar). We’ll be making further announcements about these events as they are confirmed.
On behalf of the entire team, thank you for supporting the theatre. Enjoy the shows!
Jonathan Higgins Chief Executive Officer
Tours take approximately 75 minutes and include visiting understage to view our unique Victorian stage machinery. You’ll also see backstage and many other areas never seen on a regular visit to the theatre. Your tour guide will highlight tales of the theatre’s stars, shows and even the resident ghost ‘Bob’.
Tours cost £12.50 which includes a hot drink at the end of the tour in the theatre’s 1867 Cafe Bar.
Private tours for groups or schools are also available on request. Please email info@ttoh.uk for further information.
Please note that owing to the theatre’s age and heritage status, visitors with mobility needs may have limited access.
Guided tours take place on various Saturdays throughout the year. For details, please visit: tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk
