Michael Tynan Challenge celebrates 2021 with new local research partner ANSTO - Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.

To kick off the celebrations this year the Challenge held their annual Race Day on Saturday 29 May at Kembla Grange. 270 guests gathered to support medical research whilst enjoying a superb luncheon, champagne fountain, live horse racing, sponsored phantom and dinosaur races, silent auction and the crowd favourite - best dressed for ladies and gentlemen.

Madeline Tynan, Director of Tynan Motors Group and organiser of the Michael Tynan Challenge also announced a new collaboration with ANSTO. The Challenge will fund an ANSTO medical research project on optimising outcomes of head and neck cancer treatment. In this unique collaboration, Cancer clinicians and scientists from St George Hospital will also join ANSTO health researchers.

“I am thrilled about the collaboration between ANSTO, The Microbiome Research Centre and St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre. Local medical research can have a lasting impact on our families and our community, and I have seen first-hand the result of the amazing work that is done by our researchers.” Said Madeline Tynan.

Cassandra Casey, General Manager for ANSTO said; “On behalf of ANSTO we are delighted to be receiving this support for an area of research where ANSTO, in partnership with St George Hospital and the Microbiome Research Centre, can improve therapies for head and neck cancer.”

“The Tynan family have been leaders in our community for many years and it is wonderful to have such community leadership from Madeline Tynan who is actively bringing the significant research capabilities that reside within our region together to collaborate and deliver important health outcomes”.

The Michael Tynan Challenge honours the life and achievements of Michael Tynan, a giant of the motor vehicle industry, former Sutherland Shire President and Councillor, and a tireless supporter of charity, who passed away in 2016 after a two-year battle with cancer. Over the past 6 years the Michael Tynan Challenge has raised over one million dollars to directly support ongoing medical research.
