President’s Message Thanks to everyone who supported the Home Products Show this year, either as a volunteer, exhibitor, sponsor, or attendee. The Home Products Show could never happen without each and every one of you.
Be sure to mark your calendar for After Hours sponsored by Republic Services on March 3rd, here at TABA. After Hours is a free networking event, open to all members. Builders, the jackpot is getting very high and your name could be drawn at After Hours. You must be present to win, so don’t miss your chance! Stop by to say hello and enjoy some food and drinks. I hope you’ll make plans to join us for Bowling with Builders on March 16th. This will be at a new location this year - Times Square Grand Slam. We’ll be in the new VIP section, which will be completely private for our event, so we’re very excited about that. If you’ve never been to Bowling with Builders, this is a fun event, which benifits HOMEPAC, the Texas Association of Builders’ pro-housing political action committee. This is always a great opportunity to have fun with other TABA members, while contributing to a great cause - to keep housing affordable. Example: From Old Jacksonville Hwy and Grande, head south on Old Jacksonville Hwy and travel 4 miles, then turn left on... Another example: From Broadway and Grande, head North on Broadway... 3) One color picture of Builder, (if you have it). 4) Amenities List of up to 12 bulleted items- no more than 7 words per line. TABA staff will send you a pre-formatted Word doc that you must use. By 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020: Final date to withdraw entry with no penalty. Congratulations, Erin Wright! NAHB recently honored five extraordinary home builders at the 2019 Young Professionals of the Year at the 2020 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. TABA’s Board Member, Erin Wright, was among those recognized. The award highlights the five regional winners’ hard work, performance, dedication and outstanding potential as they begin to serve as leaders in the home building industry. It is awarded to professionals under the age of 45. The 2019 winners are all active in NAHB and their state and local HBAs, with some already serving as local presidents. “These five builders are the future of our industry,” said Dean Mon, NAHB Chairman. “I am thrilled to see such a high level of achievement at these early stages of their careers. I look forward to watching them grow in their roles within the Federation.” Erin Wright, CEO of Wright-Built, LLC, in Hawkins, Texas, built her first home at 21 and when it was completed, she had three more to start. Faced with the prospect of taking more college courses to become a general contractor, she decided to join the Tyler Area Builders Association and take classes through NAHB. It paid off as 15 years later, she has finished more than 100 homes. Wright is still very active in both TABA and the Texas Association of Builders, where she served as YP chair and the 2020 Sunbelt Builders Show Co-Chair.
