Spring Edition 2022 Welcome to 2022 and the excitement this year is bringing! Like the last 2 years, we are starting off with our normal expectations battling abnormal results. What I do know is that golfers still love to golf and our dedication will meet their expectations. Continuing supply issues, unreal inflation, and a restless world present extraordinary challenges. I know we will figure out how to cope because we are superintendents and that’s what we do, figure it out. For those of you who do not know me, Squaw Valley Golf Course has been my home for the last 27 years, serving as assistant, superintendent, and now general manager. I am blessed to serve as your president for 2022. A big THANK YOU to Craig Felton and the 2021 board for their unwavering service to keep LSGCSA rolling. I look to lean on their expertise and experience for assistance going forward. Plans for golf course adoption of the BMP’s are well under way in Texas. Expect more information and continuing education as adoption by every golf course is the goal. This project is going to require some time and effort by you but it is not intended to be an impossible task. I don’t think I need to remind this audience the importance of promoting the fact that we are stewards of the land and the driving force of an industry with an enormous economic impact! It is vital that we continue to promote our key role in a game that so many enjoy. Speaking of coming together, make your plans now to attend the Texas Cup. On May 2nd, we are returning to Traditions Golf Club in College Station for a day of camaraderie and fun. Release your clubs from the corner of your office, bring your A game and plan to have a great day! Some of the best therapy for a superintendent is to play golf…at someone else’s course. Thank your vendors and affiliates! It takes minimal effort to drop a “thank you” on them for supporting our efforts and causes. It is lining up to be a difficult year on many planes and like always they will prop us up. I wish all of you success this year. Appreciate your accomplishments and pat yourself on the back once in a while. Be sure to take care of your family as well as yourself. God be with us all!
