Winter Edition 2021 As the calendar flips to a new year, we can all look back at 2021 as certainly a challenging year in many areas. Like many GCSAA Affiliated Chapters, the Lone Star GCSA successfully resumed hosting events with awareness and safety a top priority. Thanks to our special hosts, generous sponsors and loyal participants, the LSGCSA hosted the Texas Cup in May, the Texas Trophy in September and our Annual Meeting and Luncheon in December. Check out the brief recaps of each event in this Lone Star Links issue as we honor our sponsors, winners and participants. Our final event of the year, the Annual Meeting, was held at the Texas Turfgrass Association Conference in San Antonio. The chapter has supported and been a part of this event for many years and we appreciate all who attend and support it each year. At this meeting, I formally “passed the gavel” to 2022 LSGCSA President Jeff Hansen from Squaw Creek Golf Course in Glen Rose. Jeff has been a supporting member of the chapter for many years and an active and valuable member of the board of directors. I wish Jeff all success in 2022 and offer any help or support that I can provide as the chapter moves forward. Thank you to the membership for allowing me to serve as the President of the chapter. I appreciate your support! Also at the TTA Conference, Gina Rizzi of Radius Sports Group gave an outstanding presentation regarding the Texas Golf Industry – Best Management Practices Guide. Ms. Rizzi’s company was instrumental in getting the BMP guide complete and in the hands of golf course superintendents in the state. Her presentation focused on how superintendents can now utilize and adopt the guide and the principles outlined within it at their facility. Thank you Gina for all of your hard work and for attending the conference. As of this writing ……..2022 will kickoff with a bang at our annual GCSAA Conference Reception to be held on February 9 in San Diego. Because of the pending news we are all so painfully familiar with, the LSGCSA board of directors is currently weighing options for this event. A decision will be made in early January that will take in to account all of the important factors, with safety being the highest priority. Our planned venue is a familiar one, Bootlegger in the East End area of downtown San Diego. The chapter has held the reception at Bootlegger before and it sets up perfectly to catch up with old friends, make some new ones, and spend a relaxing night on the town during the conference. The board is working hard to establish sites for the 2022 Texas Cup and the 2022 Texas Trophy to be hosted by the North Texas GCSA. Watch for announcements regarding dates and locations soon. Happy New Year! Let’s make 2022 a year to remember. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve the Lone Star GCSA.
