Golf in Texas is good! Fall is one of the best times for golf in our state. Many courses out there have seen some great traffic numbers as golf has been able to provide one of the best ways for people to get out and exercise during this pandemic. Just remember to keep your safe protocols in place for your staff and customers.

We have had to make a change from the firm that was originally hired to work on the Texas BMP plan. The original firm was unable to be responsive or timely in its delivery of work. After review and discussion of the issues, the LSGCSA Board of Directors made the unanimous decision to end work with the original firm. The LSGCSA BOD has employed Radius Sports Group LLC., to develop and complete the Texas BMP plan. Gina Rizzi is the President of the company and has done an excellent job of bringing a program/strategy to the table with the goal of a possible completion of the BMP plan before the end of the year. We will need your help in this effort. You should have already received an e-mail request for pictures for sections of the BMP plan. Please take the time to respond and send pictures for the items. The BMP is our state plan and we have a very big and diverse state. These pictures will be used to help illustrate what we are talking about in the plan. Please have your photos in by the end of October. The LSGCSA BOD and BMP committee are working to make this document/tool the best one possible and will need your help so please be timely and responsive. The BMP plan will be key to presenting to our state law makers on how we manage and use water.

Please Engage in both your local chapters and put the Texas Trophy on your calendar.

Sign up your assistants, equipment managers and come out to the meetings. Sign up to host an event and also put some serious thought in to helping to serve on local / LSGCSA boards or its committees. Remember, it’s your association. Help make it better. The next time you are about to sign up for a meeting, call a buddy and tell him or her, to get off his or her “can” and go to the meeting with you. I am honored to be on the 2020 Board of Directors for LSGCSA and serve as your president this year.

2021 Golf Industry Show to be presented virtually

The association announces plans for GIS 2021.

The 2021 Golf Industry Show is going virtual.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, GCSAA announced today that the annual education conference and trade show will be presented in a virtual format instead of the previously planned in-person event in Las Vegas.

The decision was made in conjunction with GCSAA’s presenting GIS partners, the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA).

The organizations say the virtual event will offer an experience that continues the Golf Industry Show’s long tradition of connecting attendees, exhibitors and industry experts through a week of unparalleled educational opportunities and access to golf facility solutions for industry professionals.

In addition to the education, trade show and special events that will take place live on the virtual platform the first week of February, attendees will also have the option to view or review all content from the show for an extended period after the event concludes.

The theme of GIS 2021 — “Your space. Your pace. All in one place.” — not only reflects the ability of participants to attend the show from the safety of their homes or offices and consume the content when they want to, but also speaks to the convergence of industry experts that is a hallmark of GIS and will remain so in the virtual format.

Registration for the 2021 Golf Industry Show will open Oct. 13 on the Golf Industry Show website.

Rescheduled Rounds 4 Research Auction Sells Out Of All Rounds!

The 2020 Rounds 4 Research fundraising program to support turfgrass studies, administered by the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG), sold out of all 997 rounds of donated golf and yielded nearly $265,000 in its July online auction, marking the first time all rounds were sold since the program launched in 2012. The EIFG is the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

The auction was originally scheduled for April 27-May 3 but was postponed to July 20-26 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And while the number of rounds donated and the amount of total funds raised were also affected by the pandemic, the results of the rescheduled auction show the game and program remain popular.

“We are delighted with the results of the 2020 auction, and it exceeded our expectations in light of world events,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “Rescheduling it was the right thing to do, and we knew some courses would no longer be able to make donations. However, the fact that all rounds sold and we greatly exceeded our goal are evidence of the popularity of golf in today’s world and the strength of the R4R program.”

The Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association raised $50,907 and was the leader among more than 64 GCSAA affiliated chapters and turfgrass organizations that received proceeds from the auction to support turfgrass research at the local level. The Florida GCSA was next with $29,981 raised for its chapter.

The top bid was $10,009 for a one year membership with full member privileges to six private clubs in the Dormie Network.

The national campaign is supported by a $50,000 donation from The Toro Co. The program has raised more than $1.7 million since it began.

Disaster Relief Fund - BASF helps GCSAA members Everyone is busy these days managing their lives, families and work in what was an unimaginable start of 2020. We have squeezed the creative juices out of ourselves to find ways to cope and survive, hopefully successfully.

Because of the coronavirus we have come together in new ways. It’s important, now more than ever, to reach out and lend a hand. Support can be simple or significant, it’s all meaningful and makes a lasting impact to the person receiving it.

It continues today as a resource for members who face tragedy caused by natural disasters by providing the opportunity for peers in the industry to help each other through monetary donations. “BASF has shown great generosity by helping GCSAA members who are in need during these unprecedented times,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans says. “They have been longtime supporters of our members, and this gift is further evidence of that.”

This donation elevates BASF to the Platinum Tee Club signifying the highest level of support to the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG), the philanthropic organization of GCSAA.
