At TPA, we believe live performance has the power to inspire, connect, and strengthen our community. Beyond the stage, we create opportunities for audiences of all ages to engage more deeply with the performing arts through School Day Performances, workshops, masterclasses, and pre- and postshow conversations. These experiences foster creativity, spark curiosity, and build meaningful connections between audiences and artists, ensuring the impact of every performance continues long after the curtain falls.

Our 26/27 season is underway, bringing a spectacular lineup of performances and a number of ways to interact with our visiting artists. Here are a few highlights from this past season:

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater hosted a community workshop where participants learned movements from its iconic masterpiece Revelations, led by Ailey teaching artists Nasha Thomas and Jerijah West.

The cast of the high-flying Cirque Mechanics: TILT! snapped a selfie following their School Day Performance, capturing the energy of Austin-area students in a packed Bass Concert Hall.

Following a performance of her new theatre work Shopping Center of the Universe, visionary artist Robin Frohardt invited audience members onstage for a closer look at the intricately hand-built cardboard set.

Ahead of The Look of Love, dancers from the legendary Mark Morris Dance Group led a workshop for Pflugerville High School students before their January performance at Bass Concert Hall.

In March, TPA welcomed more than 900 attendees to Bass Concert Hall to unveil its 26/27 Broadway in Austin Season, the biggest yet with 11 incredible shows. The festive evening featured guest appearances by Broadway stars such as Nasia Thomas from Death Becomes Her.

The Heller Awards for Young Artists Take the Stage at Bass Concert Hall

This highly anticipated event celebrates the exceptional talents of students and educators across the Greater Austin area, while also fostering the next generation of Broadway performers. What began with 19 participating schools in its inaugural year has since expanded to include 40 schools—and continues to grow. Modeled after the Tony Awards®, the HAYAs honor the entire high school musical experience, on and off the stage. Awards are presented in 19 categories such as best

production, lead and supporting performers, and technical design. Through TPA’s partnership with the Broadway League, two HAYA participants are selected each year to represent Central Texas at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, known as the Jimmy Awards, in New York City. Students participate in a ten-day professional training intensive with notable Broadway professionals. This year, London Mays of Weiss High School and Isaiah Barafwala of Rouse High School earned that honor, representing Austin on the national stage. Mark your calendars! The Lost Things

When I was a kid, I lost something important. I didn’t have words for it then. I just knew that something I cared about was gone, and that the world felt different because of it. That feeling stayed with me. It’s part of what eventually led me to magic, not as tricks, but as a way of exploring moments that don’t quite make sense yet. Around the same time, I used to wander into the woods near my home in Scotland. I’d walk further than I meant to, until the paths disappeared and I wasn’t sure how to get back. Getting lost was frightening at first, but then something shifted. Everything felt sharper. More alive. I learned that getting lost forces you to pay attention in a way nothing else does. That idea sits at the heart of this show. The Lost Things is built around getting lost. Losing objects. Losing certainty. Losing your sense of where things are headed. It’s also about memory, how it shifts over time, and how what we remember isn’t always as fixed as we think. Through illusion and immersive storytelling, the show unfolds with you at the centre. Your choices matter. What you notice matters. Without the audience, this show doesn’t exist. Take a moment to look at the woods onstage and think of something you’ve lost in your

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Scott Silven is a world-renowned illusionist, mentalist, and performance artist whose work has helped redefine what modern magic can be onstage. Known for immersive, audience-centered experiences, Silven blends psychological illusion with story to create performances that are intimate, stylish, and emotionally resonant. He has presented acclaimed productions Off-Broadway, on television, and at some of the world’s largest and most prestigious international festivals and theaters, earning global recognition for work that sits at the intersection of theatre and illusion. His performances are frequently featured by international media, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue, NPR, and The Today Show, and he has received a New York Times Critics’ Pick. the Illusionist’s Table became a global smash hit, selling out around the world and continues to tour to wide acclaim. His groundbreaking digital performance The Journey expanded the possibilities of illusion during a time when live theatre was paused, reaching audiences across continents. His acclaimed stage production Wonders further reshaped contemporary magic by placing shared memory and audience participation at its core, touring internationally for five years and selling out multiple New York runs. The Lost Things premiered at the Sydney Opera House in 2025 in an extended month long run, and continues its 2026 North American tour with Texas Performing Arts as a co-commissioner and presenter. Across all of his work, Silven’s aim remains the same: to create live experiences that invite audiences to question perception, embrace mystery, and see the world, and themselves, in a new way.

Graham McLaren established Theatre Babel, Scotland’s touring classical theatre company in 1994 and oversaw the revitalisation of Perth Theatre in Scotland from 2004 to 2008. His international career includes serving as Associate at Necessary Angel in Canada (2008–2011), Associate Director at the National Theatre of Scotland (2011–2016), and Artistic Director and CEO of Ireland’s National Theatre, The Abbey, Dublin (2016–2021). He has created over 70 productions across four continents. In 2024, he became the founding Executive Director of Creative Glasgow, a membership organisation that serves the city’s creative industries. In 2025, he returned to the stage to collaborate with Scott Silven on The Lost Things, which premiered with a month-long run at the Sydney Opera House.

Michael Mushalla is a producer, artist manager and agent based in the United States Virgin Islands. He works on behalf of the Mark Morris Dance Group, Scott Silven, and Vox Motus. He also produces theatre projects in partnership with Neil Murray including recent tours of David Greig’s play The Strange Undoing

of Prudencia Hart, and Roddy Doyle’s Two Pints. In a classic Mail Room to the Board Room trajectory, Michael Mushalla started at Columbia Artists Management Inc., in 1981. He was a Vice President of the company and a member of the Board of Directors for more than a decade. In 1999 he founded Double M Arts & Events, LLC and continues to lead the company today.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS Branford Marsalis Quartet Saxophonist Branford Marsalis is one of the most influential and revered figures in contemporary music. The NEA Jazz Master, three-time Grammy Award winner, and Tony and Emmy Award nominee is equally at home performing concertos with symphony orchestras and sitting in with members of the Grateful Dead, but the core of his musical universe remains the Branford Marsalis Quartet. After more than three decades of existence with minimal personnel changes, this celebrated ensemble is revered for its uncompromising interpretation of a kaleidoscopic range of both original compositions and jazz and popular classics. After receiving Grammy nominations on its last two albums, Upward Spiral and The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul, the Quartet made its Blue Note Records debut in 2025 with the release of Grammy-nominated Belonging, a full album interpretation of Keith Jarrett’s 1974 ECM album of the same name. Dianne Reeves Five-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves is the world’s pre-eminent jazz vocalist. As a result of her virtuosity, improvisational prowess and texasperformingarts.org

unique jazz and R&B stylings, Reeves received the Grammy for “Best Jazz Vocal Performance” for three consecutive recordings — a Grammy first in any vocal category. Reeves was featured in George Clooney’s award-winning film Goodnight and Good Luck, for which she received a Grammy. Her most recent release, Beautiful Life, features Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway and Esperanza Spalding. Produced by Terri Lyne Carrington, Beautiful Life also won a Grammy. Reeves has received honorary doctorates from DePaul University, the Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School, and like Branford, she was designated a Jazz Master by The National Endowment for the Arts—the highest honor the United States bestows on jazz artists. Apart from a duo recording with Romero Lubambo slated for 2026, her collaboration with the Branford Marsalis Quartet will be Reeves’ first album in twelve years.
