Wade in The Shade Cont. tall again because it needed cutting last week when the belt came off and now it’s getting pretty thick. The pully’s come in and we change them and put the old belt back on the mower. Now, remember there is a brand new belt in the shop, but I just can’t seem to bring myself to re-

placing a perfectly good belt.....or so I thought. This is where the reference to my Dad comes into play. Dad was raised during the Great Depression and he didn’t throw anything away that had any potential value left in it and I guess that over the years I probably

acquired that trait as well. After replacing the entire deck spindles and pully’s, I put the old belt back on and made a few laps around the house and guess what???? It threw the belt again. I finally decided to put the new belt on the mower because after all, that’s all that was

Sunday observations from Christy

Lots of talk about racism. Fairness. Equality. Being better. Doing better. But I want to ask you, to take a minute, open your mind. And forget all of that. Let’s discuss.... judgement. We all want to think, we are non judgmental. I don’t know a single person that would say, oh well I accept only those I like. Because we all want to think that judgement, is something we only have done TO us..... surely WE would never judge..... right? Have you ever had someone say, they don’t want to

hang out because you are friends with a certain person? You’ve been judged. Have you ever avoided speaking to someone you know you know, because they are different than what you perceive as normal? You’ve judged. Have you ever had someone assume you were something you are not, because of what you wear? You’ve been judged. Have you ever looked at that homeless person, and thought, I’m not helping them, they will waste it on their substance abuse. You’ve judged. Had someone tell

you you would be a better person if you went to church? You’ve been judged. Had a coworker be quiet, and you think they are a snob? You’ve judged. Watched online as you are ripped to shreds by keyboard warriors, who only know half the story? You’ve been judged. Laughed as someone is ripped to shreds, when you only knew half the story..... possibly participated? You judged. Have you ever done any of the above..... based on the color of someone’s skin? The church

left to replace and I finished the front yard and started in on the back yard where the cows had eaten down the thick grass. At this point in the game, I’m pretty sure that I replaced all of those mechanical pieces and really all I needed was a belt that was about a half inch

shorter than the stretched out one that I kept putting back on the mower. I have promised myself that I’m going to go in the shop this week and throw that old belt away and order a new replacement to keep a spare on hand. I guess that I was pushing things a little because it

was a little wet still in spots and I got stuck a few times, but that’s another story for another column. Remember, don’t overthink things and throw some stuff away and use the new one. Till next time, I’m........Wade in the Shade

they attend? The church they don’t attend? The way they vote? Or don’t? How they spend their money, pay their bills, or spoil their child? Then you..... have judged. You see, racism, discrimination, bullying, and mistreatment of others..... is simply glorified examples of judgement. E x t r e m e judgement if you will. It goes both ways, as I showed above. You could have been the judgee and judged..... and never knew it. Chances are great, you’ve

been both. So what do we do to make a change??? Well, look within. Then teach others. Because at the end of the day, is it really any of your business how someone dresses? Who they love, who their friends are? How big.... or small.... their home is? If they sit in church, or if they have a private relationship with the God of their choosing. You are not better than anyone simply because you do things differently..... or look differently. Read that again. You are not better or worse than me because you are

white....black.... male.... female.... Christian..... Democrat..... Republican.... have had sex with only one person.... or with 50. We are equal. We are humans. We are Americans. We are all here, to trudge through, make our differences somehow, and love one another. Happy Sunday peeps..... I just don’t understand why we struggle with the simple phrase “love one another”, hate is too heavy to carry y’all. Lay it down. It’s time.

I’m writing this column on the one year anniversary of my Dad’s death and I think it’s kinda fitting that I weave a remembrance of him into this week’s column. I’ll get to that part, but first

let me tell you that we are going to talk about grass this week. A little background first. Last year was the first Summer that I was responsible for the mowing of the grass at the house in Winnie.

No problem, I thought. I’ll just bring my riding mower down from Huntsville whenever it’s time to mow the grass and then bring it back to Huntsville to mow that yard. So, I tried

E E R F that program. Every time that I had time to mow the grass in Winnie, it was raining or I hadn’t brought the lawnmower with me and it wasn’t very long before the grass just got away from me and got pretty tall and thick. I caught lots of grief from some of my buddy’s about the way the yard looked and I finally just had

to bite the bullet and devote several lawn mowing’s to get the grass under control. Actually, all that I could get was the front yard and I ended up putting up an electric fence and turning the cows in on the back yard. So, this year I had a new plan and another mower. That’s right, no back and forth with the mow-

er, just hop on a mower and cut grass whenever I had the time and regardless of which location I was currently residing. The plan was working out pretty good until I was mowing in Winnie one day and the mower threw the deck belt. I examined the mower and determined that it must be one of (Cont. on pg 3)
