Guidance for Public Visiting County Buildings

  Some county offices will have a limited opening on May 4, 2020. The following guidance shall apply: No public allowed at the main courthouse in Anahuac until further notice; 2. Any county office open to the public is by appointment only; The following offices will be open by appointment only: a. County Clerk (West Annex location only); b. District Clerk (West Annex location only); c. Libraries (pickup only); d. Tax Assessor – Only Anahuac office open, drive through only 8:30am4:30pm; e. Health Department – Anahuac location only;

f. Commissioners Offices – appointment only; 4. Golf Course Open – no appointment required; All courts are closed through June 1st; 6. All persons centering each office/department will be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing (6 feet) from each other, and from clients seeking services; 7. All persons will have temperature checked before entering county buildings; 8. Only one person per family unless a person with a disability needing assistance. These procedures will be in place pending the expiration or extension of the Governors Executive Orders on May 15th.

Chambers County Sheriff Office Has a Busy Week Arrest Made in Child Pornography Case

 Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on Wednesday,

04/29/2020, at approximately 7:10 a.m. Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and Deputies, executed a search warrant granted by the 344th District Court Judge Randy McDonald for suspect location 7318 Pine Shadows Lane, Baytown, Chambers County, Texas and suspect 64 year old Dennis Ray Reed in regard to possession or promotion of child pornography, a third degree felony.

Ronnie passed away on Jan 8, 2014. Evelyn also raised her niece, Linda Stephenson as her own daughter from the time she was four months old in 1956 until adulthood. Detectives determined from information previously collected, facts, and corroborating evidentiary statements that were provided by Dennis Reed, that Reed knowingly and intentionally possessed, or knowingly or intentionally accessed with intent to view, visual material that visually depicts a child younger than 18 years of age at the time the image of the child was made who is engaging in sexual conduct. refused all commands. As the Deputy continuously advised Barrientos to exit his vehicle, Barrientos appeared extremely nervous, moving about the cab of the truck and not following any commands given. When Barrientos placed his vehicle in drive and attempted to flee, the deputy discharged his weapon, purposely striking the front right tire which partially disabled the vehicle. As Barrientos continued to accelerate through the parking lot area he struck several trailers. Realizing that he was unable to exit the parking lot and that he had a flat tire, he exited his vehicle and fled from deputies in to an open field behind the business. Additional deputies responding to the call quickly set up a perimeter around the field where Barrientos was caught and placed in custody. A search of the suspect vehicle revealed

several firearms, credit cards and birth certificates not belonging to the suspects. The two suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the Chambers County Jail. Myles Curtis Akins was charged with the following: • Credit Card Abuse, State Jail Felony Michael Anthony Barrientos was charged with the following: • Evading Arrest Detention, State Jail Felony • Credit Card Abuse, State Jail Felony • Fail to Identify, Class B misdemeanor Akins and Barrientos were arraigned by Chambers County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Randy Van Deventer; bonds totaling $35,000 were set for Barrientos. A $15,000 bond was set for Akins on the Credit Card Abuse charge with a no bond hold for Akins for the charge in Bexar County.

Evelyn Standley Turning 98

  Psalm 90, verse 10 tells us that God has granted to most 70 years of life and some by reason of strength are granted 80. Well, God sure packed a powerful portion of strength inside the small stature of Linnie Evelyn Stephenson Standley who is set to turn 98 on May 11th, 2020! Evelyn was born to Jessie Ralph Stephenson and Ruby Gena Stphenson (nee Nelson) on May 11, 1922 in Corpus Christi, Texas and moved to Smith Point, Texas when she was five years old. I wasn't around at the time of her birth, but I'd be willing to bet she hit the ground running and has kept that pace for most of her life. If we see the subtle hints of her slowing down now it is certainly not by any choice of her

 Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on Wednesday April 29, 2020 at approximately 4:00 p.m., a Chambers County deputy was dispatched to Extreme Trailers of Texas located at 15625 IH 10 in reference to a male trying to purchase a trailer with a stolen credit card. Upon arrival, contact was made with the suspect who was identified as 25 year old Myles Curtis Akins of Austin, Texas. A check with Dispatch revealed that Akins

had an outstanding felony theft warrant out of Bexar County. After placing Akins into custody for the warrant, the deputy approached a second suspect, later identified as 27 year old Michael Anthony Barrientos, of San Antonio, Texas, who was the driver of a Dodge Ram 1500 four door truck waiting in the parking lot to pick up the trailer. The Deputy approached Barrientos and instructed him to exit the vehicle but Barrientos

Chambers County Covid-19 Testing and Update

Members of the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Emergency Management gather together to prepare for the drive thru Covid-19 testing last Sunday at White's Park. By Wade Thibodeaux  Chambers County conducted a drive thru testing event last Sunday, May 3, 2020 at White's Park and 97 people were tested during

the 9:00 am. to 6:00 pm. event. Results from those test should be available in 48 to 72 hours. As of Monday, May 4, 2020 Chambers County has 45 persons who have tested

positive for the Corona Virus with 37 of those patients having recovered. One person is still hospitalized and 885 have been tested. The County has recorded zero deaths
