THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERSHIP!

Congratulations and thank you to our all our members who helped re-elect an Albanese Labor Government on Saturday 3rd of May.

Each of your efforts on and before election day contributed to this win and you should be proud! This election was critical. The future of transport workers, and the reforms we’ve fought so hard to secure, were on the line. Thanks to your dedication, we’ve held onto a government that listens to working people and acts in their interests.

Whether that was driving trailers, handing out HTVs at early voting, HTVs on election day, manning the booths, cooking the snags and talking to your friends and family about how important their vote was. Your dedication is noticed, and it is appreciated.

We are proud to announce our TWU sausage sizzle on May Day raised $501.90 for Radio Lollipop to support sick children in hospital. Even better the TWU WA Branch will match the donations, contributing a further $500 to the charity.

"We had an awesome response to our sausage sizzle and made all that much better knowing that funds raised will go back into the community," said State Secretary Tim Dawson. "Thank you to all our members and all unionists at May Day who contributed to the fundraiser."

State Secretary Tim Dawson and TWU Bus Organiser Chris Gibbs presented the funds to Radio Lollipop Charity Coordinator Melissa Sparta-Dawes on Monday.

SAME JOB, SAME PAY AT QANTAS FREIGHT

TWU Qantas Freight labour workers at Wymap and Programmed have just secured a huge Same Job, Same Pay win.

Workers will see increases to base rates, allowances, overtime and shift penalties which will bring them in line with their directly-employed colleagues.

There’s more work to do to repair the damage caused by Qantas’ outsourcing under Alan Joyce, including bringing up pay for workers at QGS and AAE in the next round of bargaining.

With TWU members leading the way, we’re lifting standards across the entire aviation industry, while calling on Qantas to fund fair standards right throughout its supply chain (*cough* Swissport).

INTERNATIONAL WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY

APRIL 28TH

was international workers memorial day, an international day of remembrance, reflection, and action for workers killed, disabled, injured, or made unwell by their work.

One truck driver dies on our roads every week, we take this time to recognise those who have lost their lives while delivering for Australia. Behind each tragedy is a family, a workplace, a community forever changed.

WE REMEMBER THE DEAD, AND FIGHT LIKE HELL FOR THE LIVING!

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month - a month to raise awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence, educate the public, and support survivors.

Research shows that workplaces that have a higher rate of sexual assault and harassment are often ones that are male-dominated and with a high level of interaction with third parties such as customers, passengers, and clients.

During the month of April, the TWU reached out to our women members in transport and surveyed them on the realities of sexual assault and harassment within the industry.

Women working in the transport industry unfortunately have witnessed and experienced workplace sexual harassment at an unprecedented rate.

Over 52% of women in the transport industry have witnessed an incident of sexual harassment at work and over 39% have personally experienced such an incident.

Of those who personally experienced an incident, only 12.5% felt confident in reporting it to their superiors and of those who did report, 87.5% didn't believe the incident was dealt with appropriately.

Women deserve to feel safe in their workplace, to be appropriately

supported when it comes to sexual assault and harassment, and for perpetrators to face appropriate consequences.

CASH-IN-TRANSIT SQUEEZED FOR

ALL THEY'RE WORTH

Big banks and retailers are squeezing the cash-in-transit industry with unsustainable contracts.

It’s time they PAY UP.

Using new transport reform laws, our contract chain application to the FWC will hold banks and retailers accountable to pay their fair share.

Productivity Training Program is now livefor all Linfox, Linfox Fuel, SeaRoad and Bevchain workers.

This short online course is the first of its kind in the transport industry and was secured by TWU members through bargaining with companies.

All workers can complete the training and secure an extra 1% pay increase. TWU members can do the training free of cost.

If you’re not a TWU member yet, you can still join before May 14, 2025, to be eligible for free of cost training.
