(primarily used for the treatment of tumors and radiation therapy). In the process, he became wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
Mr. Doty is also very generous. With a net worth of $75 million, he pledged stock worth $30 million to charity.
Not long after the pledge was announced, his investments were hit hard by the dot.com crash of 2000-2001. Doty lost almost everything. The only thing left was the pledged stock.
His lawyers advised Doty that he could get out of the pledge. They told him people would understand that his circumstances had changed, and that they wouldn’t expect him to follow through.
Doty considered his options. He later said, “One of the persistent myths in our society is that money will make you happy. Growing up poor, I thought that money would give me everything I did not have: control, power, love. When I finally had all the money I had ever dreamed of, I discovered that it did not make me happy.”
Doty decided to follow through with his pledge and give away the last of his fortune. And how did he feel after the gift was given? Doty stated, “At that moment, I realized that the only way that money can bring happiness is to give it away.” You can add one more item to Doty’s list of talents: integrity. With the price much higher than he initially thought it would be, Doty followed through on his commitment to giving. The irony is that only after the gift was given did James Doty find the happiness he had been searching for.
When was the last time your integrity was tested?

Hurricane Season
R. Hamilton
This is the season for storms in the Atlantic; Which way are they headed, and when should I panic? Waters are warm here, so the storms typically grow; The rains they are coming and the winds they will blow.
We’ve planned and geared up, so I hope we’re prepared; But my prayer is this storm fizzles and all will be spared. As the storm track is updated, the anxiety will grow; Where it comes inland, God only knows.
Storm surge and flooding are but a few things to consider; May not be a good time to rely on low bidder. Equipment to make ready and essentials to stock; Everyone will be working, so forget about the clock.
Without essential services there would be no need for return; As protection of public health will be our primary concern. My family, my friends, they have long gone; As into this bunker, I am now drawn.
We’ve learned so much from storms of the past; Don’t be fooled by predictions, you’re area may still be harassed. Restoration of services are sometimes plagued by delays; But the devotion of our operators is deserving of praise.
So as water flows from that faucet or you flush that fixture; Remember it’s the result of training and dedication, an amazing mixture. Your service is appreciated as we praise your hard works; For now consider this thank you, as one of your perks.

LADONIA, TX (June 22, 2021) — The Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) celebrated the groundbreaking of Lake Ralph Hall, North Texas’ newest lake and one of the first built in Texas in decades. Named after the late longtime U.S. Congressman Ralph M. Hall, the new reservoir will be located on the North Sulphur River in southeast Fannin County, just north of the City of Ladonia. Created by the State of Texas as a conservation and reclamation district on June 16, 1989, UTRWD also celebrated its 32nd birthday. UTRWD serves approximately 325,000 residents in one of the fastest growing regions in North Texas. The area’s population is expected to increase nearly five-fold over the next 50 years. The official start of construction marks an important milestone to ensure crucial water supplies for the growing North Texas region. “Today’s celebration acknowledges 20 years of planning, permitting and design activities coupled with the hard work of District board members, staff and consultants – past and present – who made today’s groundbreaking possible,” said Larry N. Patterson, Executive Director of Upper Trinity. “Lake Ralph Hall will be able to provide up to 54 million gallons per day of water to meet the future water needs of communities in Denton, Collin and Fannin counties. The lake will not only provide a safe, secure and reliable water source to this region, but will provide Ladonia and Fannin County significant economic benefits and new recreational opportunities.” The groundbreaking was hosted at the site of the future Leon Hurse Dam, named for the City of Ladonia’s former Mayor and a long-time visionary of the project. The earthen dam, approximately 2.3 miles long and about 110 feet tall forms a reservoir capable of storing 180,000 acre-feet of water, which will be constructed over the next four years. The event theme was ‘Water for the People’ and more than 300 celebrants, consisting of representatives from UTRWD’s Member Cities/Municipalities and board of directors; elected officials from Fannin, Denton and Collin Counties and the City of Ladonia; representatives from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB); and, family members of Ralph Hall and Leon Hurse gathered together for this momentous occasion. “Our journey with Lake Ralph Hall began as an idea shared at a community meeting chaired by our former Mayor Leon Hurse in 1991,” said Ladonia Mayor Jan Cooper. “Our lake team met with Congressman Ralph Hall who suggested we find a partner to help build the lake. That partner was the Upper Trinity Regional Water District and today, I have no words to express how grateful the town of Ladonia is that the dam is being named after our former mayor Leon Hurse.”
