While the Six Nations Food Bank says it’s ready to help clients have a Christmas meal this year, it’s the time after Christmas that many people still need help with.

“After Christmas, people still need to eat,” says SN Food Bank Chair Mary Monture.

She said the food bank is truly grateful for all the donations it’s received from community members and organizations this year, which is how it is able to operate and feed the community, since they don’t have a regular funding source.

The food bank regularly

serves around 250 to 300 people weekly depending on the time of year, she says.

The weeks following Christmas can often be tough because clients got their government cheques early, spent them on Christmas expenses and food, and are often left without much to see them through the weeks after Christmas.

Kids are still home from school until the new year and need to eat, says Monture.

In the past year, the Six Nations Food Bank served 20,151 people altogether.

The food bank also gives out 150 senior bags twice a year, as well as kids’ bags about once a month, as add-ons to their regular weekly food pick-

The senior bags contain things like toiletries and household items while the kids’ bags have snacks and other goodies that younger people would enjoy.

“It’s just extra treats,” said Monture. “If we can do that monthly, we try to.

Monture said it cost the food bank $250,000 to feed the community this year.

That expense is going to go up, she said, as grocery prices continue to rise.

One thing that she’s pleased to see this year is seniors getting out and hitting up all the community celebrations offering Christmas dinners and holiday meals.

Not only does it feed seniors, but it also gets them out socializing.

The food bank applies to the Six Nations Community Trust for some of its funding, and got $100,000 from the organization this year to run its operations.

“They have been generous in the past,” said Monture.

Other than that, they

have no regular funding.

“Council does not fund us. A lot of people assume council backs us but they do not.”

She said she’s not sure if they’ll be approved for funding from the community trust for next year and she’s getting a little anxious about that, but if not, they’ll be out there seeking donations to continue its activities.

“We’ve been really lucky,” said Monture. “Donations have been very very good this year. We’ll be good for Christmas.

We have enough to get us through Christmas. But after Christmas, people still need to eat.”

Monture said if people can donate non-expired food to them, they would appreciate it.

They’re often given expired food.

“We still get them. We don’t hand them out.”

Other area food banks, including in Hamilton, hand out expired goods.

Monture says if anyone is willing to donate to help through the holidays, the food bank would appreciate it.

“Cash donations always help. We greatly appreciate the people that come to the food bank, that use the food bank, but also everyone that’s donated.

Every donation means we can feed another community member. It’s a big sincere thank you, Nia:weh to community members and organizations that support us.”

Elected Council considering cannabis referendum DONNA DURIC

Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council says it is reviewing cannabis regulations in the community after a contentious grow-op in Ohsweken uncovered this year led to criticism and a demand to overhaul cannabis regulations on the territory.

The review has already included recent changes to the Six Nations Cannabis Law passed in 2021.

“SNGREC has been actively working to address cannabis-related issues in Six Nations, including the community concerns we have heard regarding cannabis production facilities,” elected council said in a recent statement.

“This process is complex and has required time and resources to properly review and address.

SNGREC has held several meetings with law enforcement, the Six Nations Cannabis Commission,

community members, and licensees to hear concerns and discuss options moving forward.”

A massive cannabis grow-op on Fourth Line Road in the heart of Ohsweken drew widespread criticism this year when nearby neighbours and community activists spoke out about the facility’s size, smell, and proximity to the busy village of Ohsweken, stores, schools and daycares.

The grow-op, owned by a company called Legacy Farms, came to widespread attention this past spring when community members shared a video tour of the cannabis operation to social media.

The grow-op was approved by the Six Nations Cannabis Commission, with criticism from community members the commission didn’t follow its own protocols in approving the facility.

Elected council said it also formed a core team of people mandated to work on cannabis-related

issues.

The team includes members of Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council (SNGREC) and legal counsel.

The team reports regularly to SNGREC. Amendments to the Cannabis regulations can be found at www.sixnations.ca/general-information-notices/.

“SNGREC continues to work with the Six Nations Cannabis Commission to implement these changes to the Law and Regulations and to ensure licensees are compliant.”

Elected council also said it is exploring a referendum on the issue of cannabis with details to follow in the new year.

“SNGREC appreciates the continued patience of our community as we work together to ensure this matter is addressed in a fair, safe, and responsible manner. We will continue to provide updates to the community as they are available."

Tragic bus accident in Hamilton By 2RT Staff Hamilton police are investigating after a child was struck by a city bus downtown on Thursday afternoon.

Police say the child, who was seven-years-old, died as a result of their injuries after they were take to the hospital.

The collision involving the Hamilton Street Rail-

way (HSR) bus happened in the area of Emerald and Wilson streets just after 1 p.m.

Police told CTV News there were 15 people onboard the bus at the time of the collision and it is still not known if the child was hit at the front or side of the bus.

“My heart goes out to the family and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath said a statement.

“The loss of a child is unimaginable, and all of Hamilton is grieving with them. I want to thank the first responders and investigators working at the scene.”

Hagersville - The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN) formally welcomed its new leadership today during a swearing-in ceremony held at the MCFN Community Centre. Community members, families, and invited guests gathered to witness Ogimaa Kwe (Chief) Margaret Sault take her oath of office, along with the newly elected Council.

Chief Sault, a long-serving MCFN administrator and community advocate,

was elected on December 6. She previously served as Director of Lands, Membership and Research, and later as Acting Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, playing a key role in advancing major files such as the Toronto Purchase Trust settlement.

Honour Without End: how the Crown rewarded Mohawk Loyalists— and how that promise still binds Canada

In this series, we have examined the Grand River not as a single dispute, but as a sequence of decisions that were never meant to be understood in isolation. From the wartime losses acknowledged by the Crown in 1779, to the land set apart along the Grand River in 1784, to the hereditary recognition and oath-based processes that followed, a consistent settlement logic begins to surface. What the historical record reveals is not confusion about what was promised, but a slow unraveling of how that promise was supposed to be maintained—and how its quiet abandonment came to shape everything that followed on the Grand River.

The sequence begins in 1779 with the Haldimand Pledge. Governor Frederick Haldimand acknowledged that specific Mohawk villages—Canojaharie, Ticonderoga, and Aughugo— had been ruined because of their steady attachment to the King’s cause during the American Revolution.

These were not incidental losses. They were sacrifices made in service to the Crown. Haldimand ratified Sir Guy Carleton’s promise that, once the war ended, those Mohawks would be restored to the same condition they had enjoyed before hostilities broke out. In modern terms, this was a commitment to status quo ante bellum: full restoration, not mitigation.

That pledge was given territorial form in 1784.

The Haldimand Proclamation authorized the Mohawk Nation, and such

others of the Six Nations as wished to retire with them, to take possession of lands along the Grand River, six miles deep on each side, to be enjoyed by them and their posterity forever.

The wording matters.

The land was purchased by the Crown, set apart under royal protection, and granted perpetually.

This was not an ordinary Indigenous occupancy arrangement. It was a Loyalist settlement grounded in alliance, service, and Crown honour.

Yet embedded in the proclamation was a structural weakness that later courts would exploit. The instrument did not name any individual grantee in a natural capacity. It referred to the “Mohawk Nation and such others,” without creating a corporation, a body politic, or identifying living persons through whom the interest could pass. Nineteenth-century courts treated this absence as fatal. Without named natural persons, the interest was assumed to be incapable of succession in ordinary property-law terms and therefore vulnerable to collapse once the original generation passed.

This was not a problem the Crown failed to notice.

It was a problem the Crown actively moved to repair.

In 1789, Lord Dorchester issued what he called a Mark of Honour for those families who had adhered to the unity of the Empire and joined the Royal Standard before 1783. His instruction was explicit: Loyalist families and their descendants, by either sex, were to be distinguished

in parish registers, militia rolls, and public records so their posterity could be identified and preferred for future benefits and privileges. This was not symbolism. It was legal infrastructure. The Mark of Honour supplied what the Haldimand Proclamation lacked—an identifiable hereditary line anchored in natural persons.

instruments formed a coherent system. The pledge acknowledged the debt.

The proclamation supplied the land. The Mark of Honour identified the hereditary beneficiaries. The oath-based ascertainment process converted lineage into legally cognizable standing. Nothing essential was missing—except continuity.

Canada did not maintain

form of Aboriginal usufruct rather than Loyalist compensation. Once that framing took hold, the Crown was treated as retaining underlying title and therefore free to dispose of the land. The grant was no longer read as a perpetual hereditary settlement, but as a generalized Indigenous interest subject to Crown administration.

Recognizing that Dorchester’s registry had not been consistently implemented, Simcoe ordered Loyalist claimants to ascertain their status upon oath before magistrates. Those who did so would be confirmed in their lands without fee.

Those who failed to come forward would not be entitled to that benefit. This was not punishment. It was procedure. The Crown provided a clear path to convert honour into legally recorded standing.

the registries. The ascertainment process fell into disuse. The hereditary framework was allowed to atrophy. When courts later encountered disputes on the Grand River, they saw an incomplete record and treated the absence as evidence of extinction rather than administrative neglect. The failure of Crown machinery was mistaken for the failure of Crown obligation.

This misreading had lasting doctrinal consequences. Courts increasingly characterized the Haldimand grant as a

The grant was not framed as a temporary right contingent on constant assertion. It was granted “to them and their posterity forever.”

That language does not describe an interest that diminishes over time. It describes a hereditary dedication whose beneficiaries expand rather than disappear. The land was not given to Joseph Brant personally, nor exhausted by his actions. It was oriented forward, toward

This distinction also clarifies why not all Indigenous litigants stand in the same relationship to the Haldimand Proclamation.

In recent decades, litigation concerning the Grand River has sometimes been advanced by individuals or groups explicitly stating that they do not act on behalf of Indian Act band councils. That distinction is important—but it does not automatically confer standing under the Haldimand framework.

The interests created by the Haldimand Pledge, Proclamation, Mark of Honour, and Simcoe’s ascertainment process are sui generis. They are Loyalist-hereditary interests tied to specific service, specific posterity, and a specific Crown mechanism for identification. Those who descend from other Indigenous nations, or who assert rights grounded in broader Aboriginal law, may well have legitimate claims of their own.

But that does not make them beneficiaries of this particular instrument.

This is not a criticism of those claims. It is a jurisdictional fact. The Haldimand Proclamation does not create a general Indigenous entitlement. It creates a defined Loyalist settlement whose beneficiaries were meant to be identified through lineage and public record. Standing under that framework cannot be assumed, borrowed, or collectivized.

It must be proven in the manner the Crown itself prescribed.

Ancient artifact located in the year 1898 Curated by Jim Windle As published in the Brantford Expositor —May 23, 1898 Chief Jamieson, 'of Lady Dufferin grove, Onondaga, brought to The Expositor office on Saturday last what he called the Six Nations sign dish. It was made during the reign of George Ill., (1760—1820) and has been in possession of the Jamieson family for a great many years.

It is made of white wood, in form and shape like a chopping dish. It is heavily varnished, and is divided into six sections, with the name of a tribe on each.

In the interior there are six sections with a beaver tail painted on each, the interpretation being that all that goes into the dish is the common property of the tribes comprising the confederacy. Mr. Jamieson, it in needless to state,

places a high valuation on this curiosity.

An Indian Chief, a contractor with extensive interests on Onondaga Reserve.

A terrific electric storm passed over the Indian Reserve yesterday afternoon, during which Chief Levi Jonathan, was who driving a team of horses, was killed out right, as also was one horse. Mr. Garlow, who was riding with the deceased, also received a severe shock, otherwise uninjured. The deceased was one of the most powerful of the chiefs Six Nations, and at the time of his death was completing a number of tracts, among which are the building of the new Public school and the new steel arch bridge.

Narcissistic abuse: a silent epidemic

By Donna Duric There’s an unspoken epidemic of silent abuse plaguing Indigenous communities, and more broadly, people around the world.

For too long, survivors, in this case, women, have felt silenced. Unseen.

Unheard. Wondering if they are the crazy one in the relationship. Heartbroken. Isolated. Unsure how to leave or explain why they’re leaving.

After all, there are no marks, bruises or any sort of evidence of physical violence. He doesn’t hit her.

There are no police reports detailing calls or visits to the home.

It’s not domestic violence in the traditional sense that everyone thinks of: he hits her, he beats her, she’s a battered wife.

It’s psychological abuse hidden by an abuser so covert, so manipulative, so under-the-radar that people think you’re crazy or making things up for even mentioning it.

It’s the phenomenon of narcissistic abuse - a term

that has exploded in popularity in the past decade on social media, with hundreds of influencers and doctors and psychologists using these platforms to educate the public about this form of abuse plaguing relationships around the globe.

And people who once felt crazy for wondering what was happening in their extremely hurtful and toxic, controlling relationships finally have an answer for what was happening to them all these years.

Don’t get me wrong narcissistic abuse CAN entail physical abuse, as well as sexual, emotional, financial, spiritual and psychological abuse. It can be just one type of these abuses, it can be two, it can be all five, or any combination of the above.

I’m talking about the kind of abuse that absolutely terrorizes a person’s emotional world (I call it emotional terrorism) and results in complete and total soul annihilation.

And the worst part:

you have zero evidence.

Because it wasn’t physical.

And the abuser - the man - is usually considered one of the most gentle, loving, kind-hearted, upstanding people in the world by everyone who knows him - the public, his co-workers, his faith community, everyone is enamoured by him and looks up to him.

People think there’s no way this wonderful man is as awful as that “crazy” ex-wife or ex-girlfriend says he was.

They think she’s just a bitter, jealous, jilted lover who is spitefully trying to ruin his reputation because he left her, or found someone “better” (usually, a woman he was cheating on her with), and she just can’t get over it. That new woman is called “the new supply” and he’s wearing a “mask” of charm, kindness and goodness for her.

I’m here to tell you, that is absolutely not the case.

There are hundreds of us.

Thousands. Millions.

And I have made it my mission to, once and for all, bring awareness to

narcissistic abuse, covert narcissistic abuse, and help women and survivors feel less alone as they navigate this type of abuse.

After hearing too many stories of this type of abuse, some amazing women and I are embarking on a campaign to help women dealing with covert narcissistic abuse and reclaiming their power by being silent no more. Their abusers are usually very powerful, well-known, well-connected, and well-loved by the communities they live in, leaving women feeling utterly trapped in such relationships, or dealing with extreme post-separation abuse after finally leaving such a relationship.

Domestic violence shelters are amazing resources.

Our focus is filling a gap for women who are experiencing narcissistic abuse and bringing to light that narcissistic personality disorder really is at the core of mostly all domestic violence situations.

My name is David Johnson, I am Mohawk, Bear Clan. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) at McMaster University, which opened the door for me to help people in more ways than I imagined. I started my career in long-term care at just 19 years old, after being encouraged by a senior nurse to gain PSW experience first. That early exposure shaped the nurse I became and showed me I could succeed in nursing school. As I moved through my career, I often wondered who made the decisions that affected front-line staff, and why those decisions sometimes didn’t match the reality of healthcare. That pushed me to return to school and earn my Master’s in Health Administration (MHA) from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2025, so I could eventually have a seat at that table and better advocate for our people and our workers.

While graduating was important, my real accomplishment is the feeling I get when I do my job well and keep my clients safe, seen, and supported. I’m proud of how I show up every day, keep a positive mindset, and continue growing in this field.

Be comfortable being alone during your education, no one can do the work for you. Once you get your foot in the door, don’t waste the opportunity. Build your confidence, stay focused, and don’t be afraid to stand out. I’ve failed before, but quitting was never an option. I wanted independence and control over my life, and education opened that door. Don’t fall into peer pressure. Be different. Be a leader. Life is full of challenges, what matters is how you respond to them. Education is one step toward building the future you want.

My biggest challenge was the sacrifice and independence required to succeed. I missed family events, birthdays, and personal moments because school didn’t come easily to me. I had to learn how to study from scratch since I didn’t take high school seriously.

Every assignment and deadline was a learning curve. But I had strong mentors along the way, and because of them, I kept going.

I’m grateful for every one of them.

As an Onkwehon:we person I’m guided by the strength of our ancestors who never gave up adapting to a new world. Their resilience pushed me to keep trying, even after failures, and trust that I could get back up again. In my career, I value teamwork, community, and accountability, the same principles our people carried long before us. Healthcare isn’t about glory; it’s about compassion.

I make sure my team feels respected and supported because the work is hard, and we need each other to get through it.

I’ve spent my entire education and career caring for our Elders.

The appreciation and trust from community members remind me why I chose this path. My education helps me make informed decisions, advocate for clients, and navigate barriers within the system. A major challenge I’ve seen is the barriers that delay community needs, especially when our health buildings need updates or repairs. Too often, action only happens when things break down, leaving us scrambling. Despite the limitations placed on Indigenous communities by government systems, we are stronger when we work together. We need to return to our values of unity, honesty, and lifting each other up, because these unspoken cultural norms can either build us up or hold us back. If we choose unity, we can move as a Nation.

My words of encouragement for our future generations, listen to each other. No one person has all the answers, solutions come from the collective. Speak your truth, stay grounded, and don’t let social pressure silence you.

stood this distinction.

In the early twentieth century, ministers acknowledged in Parliament that Mohawks occupied a different legal footing than other populations. In 1919, Canada sought clarification from the British Parliament as to whether the Haldimand Proclamation had ever been denounced and whether Six Nations were subject to Canadian legislation.

The answer was clear: the proclamation had not been revoked and was treated as a special treaty-like instrument.

The response was not restoration, but avoidance.

In 1924, the Canadian government forcibly removed the traditional council at Grand River, seized constitutional wampum records, and imposed Indian Act governance. The act was administrative in form but constitutional in effect. It displaced the very

structures through which hereditary standing and Crown relationships had been expressed.

Ironically, Canada preserved Loyalist heredity elsewhere. In 1914, it incorporated the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada to ascertain Loyalist descent nationwide. Through it, individuals can obtain certificates of descendantsand carry that recognition into the highest reaches of the Crown, including heraldic acknowledgment under the Governor General’s authority. The Crown has always known how to recognize hereditary Loyalist standing. It simply refused to apply that knowledge where it mattered most.

None of this requires new legislation. The Grand River settlement predates Confederation and was explicitly confirmed as part of Canada’s constitutional order in 1791. The duty is not to innovate, but to

observe. Failure to observe a legal duty is not merely a civil oversight. It is a constitutional breach.

The remedy, therefore, is not negotiation but completion: rebuilding the hereditary registry, reinstating ascertainment mechanisms, distinguishing Loyalist posterity from statutory collectives, and restoring exclusive use and enjoyment where it was never lawfully surrendered.

Canada’s legitimacy on the Grand River does not rest on convenience or consensus. It rests on whether the Crown is prepared to finish what it began—to perform, at last, the promise it made to posterity.

The promise was made.

The framework was built.

The failure was not legal.

It was administrative— and it remains unfinished.

SIX NATIONS POLICE Constable - Contract Position

Applications for a contract position for Constable with the Six Nations Police are now being called for.

All applicants must fill out a standard application form available at the Six Nations Police Station.

CRITERIA for applicants are as follows: Minimum Requirements to be considered for a career in First Nations Policing with the Six Nations Police Service, you must: -

Be 19 years of age or over and able to provide an official birth certificate or proof of age; Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position having regard to your own safety and the safety of members of the public Have successfully completed at least 4 years of Secondary School education or its equivalent (official transcripts and diplomas will be required) Be of good moral character and habits, meaning that you are an individual other people would consider being trustworthy and having integrity, with no criminal record; Certified by a physician to be fit for duty as a front line Six Nations Police Constable and able to pass physical tests which are required in the recruiting process Possess a valid driver’s license with no more than 6 accumulated demerit points, permitting you to drive an automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges Be able to pass a security clearance as well as background investigation, credit card and reference checks

If you have any criminal convictions under a Federal Statute you must obtain a pardon.

Special Requirements – for the Six Nations Police Service, in order to address the unique and at times urgent needs of the Six Nations of the Grand River Community and Haudenosaunee culture, additional requirements include: -

Extensive knowledge of the unique social dynamics of the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory A sound understanding of Haudenosaunee culture, customs, traditions and social political issues of the Six Nations of the Grand River Six Nations of the Grand River Band Membership/Citizenship and residency is considered a preferred asset and Membership or extensive working experience with any Indigenous Nation will also be considered an asset

Armed robbery on 4th Line By 2RT Staff OHSWEKEN - The Six Nations Police have been investigating an armed robbery that took place at a local business on Fourth Line.

On Monday, November 17th, 2025, at approximately 2:34 AM, the Six Nations Police were advised of an armed roberry call at a local business on Fourth Line.

Police attended the scene and were advised that a male brandished a firearm and demanded money.

The suspect left the area before police arrival. No injuries were reported to police. With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police K9 Unit and the Emergency Reponse Team (ERT), members of the public in the affected area were urged to follow a shelter-in-place. Shortly after 4:40 AM, the shelterin-place was lifted.

On December 10th, 2025, police were able to identify the robbery suspect as Jordan McCue (20 years old) of Ohsweken, Ontario. The accused has

been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences: Robbery, Firearm: Careless Use, Weapon: Possession for Dangerous Purpose, Theft under $5,000, Firearm or Weapon: Possession Contary to Prohibition Order.

The accused was held in custody pending a formal bail hearing. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Jusice in Brantford, Ontario on a later date.

of it as someone who is in love with themselves.

That was the layperson’s understanding of the term for decades.

It’s actually way more complex than that.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a personality style or pattern of interacting with the world and relating to others with extreme antagonism, hostility, entitlement, grandiosity, paranoia, lack of empathy and a complete lack of accountability for any of their wrongdoing.

These traits influence their every thought, motivation and behaviour - at home, in the workplace, and in public life.

Most humans have some small manifestation of narcissistic traits. Narcissism is a spectrum. We can all be a little hostile or antagonistic at times, feel entitled to a certain thing and have trouble saying sorry sometimes.

And we actually need a healthy level of tweaked narcissistic traits to function in life. Narcissistic traits like grandiosity, in a healthy person, are instead manifested as drive and ambition - but we do it in a way that we don’t hurt others in our path to success or climbing the corporate ladder, whereas a narcissist will do whatever it takes to get to the top and believes one day they will rule their world with their incredible genius and talents.

They go through life feeling aggrieved that the world hasn’t recognized how special they are and they constantly feel uniquely victimized and persecuted by an unfair

world.

They feel instant success and admiration is owed to them without going through the years of toil and hard work it takes to get there. They chase constant admiration and compliments and reassurances that they are a good and worthy person.

They fill up on this admiration and these compliments from compliant people usually referred to as “supply.” If you don’t align with their self-perceived sense of greatness, they will make you pay for it. You’re an enemy in their eyes. Their entire identity is externally based - so if anyone in the outside world thinks terribly of them, their self-illusion will shatter.

It is a disorder rooted in deep shame, insecurity and a fragmented identity.

The problem with narcissists, though, is that they don’t do this introspective, honest and painful work on themselves, so instead, they develop a false veneer of confidence, vanity and success to hide all of this deep-rooted inner turmoil and agony.

Narcissism, according to many experts, almost always has its roots in deep childhood trauma that has never been addressed.

With all this said, we can’t diagnose people based on surface-level interactions that display some of these traits. Only trained professionals can actually clinically diagnose a personality disorder.

But those of us who have been in healthy relationships, as opposed to relationships marked by

psychological terrorism, instinctively know we have dealt with a character-disordered person.

Healthy people simply do not go around destroying other people’s souls.

I have been researching and deeply diving into narcissistic personality disorder for three and a half years.

The simplest way I can help people understand if you may be dealing with a narcissist is this: if you’re confused, you’re being abused.

Healthy love never makes you feel confused.

Ever.

A group of powerful, amazing, intelligent women and I are going to be creating a Facebook group and local movement to help women navigate narcissistic abuse in their lives because of our own personal experiences with this soul-destroying dynamic in their lives.

And we are not just focusing on romantic or intimate partner relationships. Narcissistic bosses, parents, siblings, coworkers, classmates, spiritual leaders and public servants can all victimize us due to their pathological personality style. They are causing untold damage to us, in schools, workplaces, in homes - everywhere.

Researchers say about five percent of the population fits the criteria or is diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder but that number may be skewed because narcissists rarely, if ever, seek help or get diagnosed because they never think anything is wrong with them.

NBA Sensation Victor Wembanyama spoiled OKC Thunder’s 24-1 Fifteen game win streak. The Spurs knocked them out of the NBA Cup Semifinals Saturday night in Las Vegas winning over the OKC Thunder 111109! Wemby, who is 7’4, returned after a calf strain that had him miss about a month of action on the injury list. He played just 20 mins Saturday night but scored 22 pts, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, with 2 blocks and looked great. Wemby hopes to lead the spurs to a win in the NBACUP Final against Jalen Brunson and the NY Knicks. Wemby is suggested to be unofficially 7”6 in height. His skillset at his height is unmatched and consists of 3 pt jump shots, filthy point guard handling attributes, pulling up hitting fade away 3 pt jump shots, he’s almost unguardable. He is one of the most exciting new NBA players to watch.

If he can stay healthy the remainder of the season he should likely remain in the top 3 in NBA MVP voting along with Hamilton Ontario’s Shai Gilgeous Alexander and Laker’s Phenom Luka Doncic.

In NFL football news,

the Bills came back from the dead in their divisional rivalry matchup against the Patriots in New England this past sunday. The Bills were trailing at halftime down 24-7, but came storming back with 4 straight touchdown drives led by Josh Allen and James Cook to win 35-31. James Cook finished the game with 107 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, while Josh Allen collected another 3 passing touchdowns to go along with 193 passing yards + 48 rushing yards. The Bills are now 10-4, with 3 wins in a row and now sit just 1 game back of the Patriots in the AFC East Division with 3 games left a piece.

Although the Patriots have a much easier schedule remaining, with games against 7-7 Ravens, 3-11 Jets & 6-8 Dolphins, anything is possible! The Bills final three matchups are against the 3-11 Cleveland Browns, 9-5 Defending Super Bowl Champs Philadelphia Eagles & the final regular season matchup against the 3-11 New York Jets. The final three games will be played this Saturday, with three powerful matchups consisting of Miami Hurricanes vs Texas A&M (-3.5 pt favourite) noon start, Tulane Green Wave vs Ole Miss Runnin’ Rebels (-17.5 favourite) 3:30pm start & finally James Madison Dukes vs Oregon Ducks (-21.5 favourites) 7:30pm start.

In our NFL Pick Em Slate, last week we again went 3-2, which brings our current record total up to 20 wins, 10 losses.

This week I like some

upsets. Im rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to get an underdog win against the visiting LA Rams who’ve been on fire. I like the underdog Chicago Bears to get a home victory against the visiting GB Packers. I like the Denver Broncos to get a home win over the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars. I like the Detroit Lions to slap around the Pittsburgh Steelers. Finally, I like the SF 49ers to beat up on old man Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts! How about Philip Rivers last week by the way?!? It was amazing to see him throw for a passing touchdown and hang in there until the final drive, almost beating the Seahawks in a close 18-16 game. What a year it’s been for the 3rd Annual Audrey Sandy Memorial Golf Classic which took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Proceeds raised scholarship funds for 10 Six Nations “mature” post secondary students.

Since the inception of this memorial 3 years ago the number of awards has increased (from 3 to 7 then 10). For this we graciously thank our platinum sponsors; $5,000+ Nitro 54 Variety; $5,000 GRE – Grand River Enterprises; and $5,000 CUSW – Canadian Union of Skilled Workers. These businesses give back in so many ways. For the fall/ winter intake, Grand River Post Secondary Office had received 835 applications. Of that amount only 535 students were approved.

We know there is a need and its upsetting to see our students struggle or go into debt.
