FOR E WOR D Everything in this exhibition was never intended to have viewership. The works were never told to survive, to be looked at or to be framed. From artists pockets, secret drawers and guestbooks these works were made in the instant of the heart, long before the head could talk. These small intimate fragments are not preliminary sketches for paintings, maquettes or even studies. They are not once, but twice removed, from anything ever intended for the gallery wall. Yet, it is perhaps here, in these unguarded moments, that we come closest to the artist.
