With the changing seasons, the onset of fall and winter give way to more warm comfort food cravings and the appearance of apples, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, and more at the farmers’ market and on restaurant menus. With cooler evenings upon us, we suddenly feel the need to take advantage of eating outdoors, and many Denville restaurants are ready to help us with that goal. Why not try a progressive meal, stopping at a different Denville establishment for each of your courses? Whether you stick to Broadway or roam all over town, you can grab cocktails, appetizers, your main course, and a dessert each from a different restaurant and really take advantage of all that our town has to offer. One thing is for sure, no matter where you choose to eat, whether it’s dine in, take out, or even a drive-thru, the spirit of the town and love for food shines through. P.S. Some of the best restaurants can be found tucked away into unassuming little strip malls, and Miga is no exception. Bursting onto the scene in 2013, their All You Can Eat (AYCE) sushi deal has definitely contributed to their popularity, and the made-to-order entrees and quick service keep customers coming back for more. Miga does a booming business with a wide variety of sushi and sashimi selections, bento boxes, and more. Let’s get to know them! When Lin Chen and Tina He, the husband and wife owners, first stumbled onto the little cozy restaurant in December 2013, they fell in love. Lin has years of experience as a sushi chef, and loves to challenge himself by making new dishes and unique sauces. Together they always dreamed of owning their own restaurant and Denville provided the perfect opportunity.

Located in a small strip of shops on Route 53 with Dunkin' Donuts and Chico's, on the border of Denville and Morris Plains, Miga’s location is easy to find and offers ample parking. Although the waiting area and the dining room are on the smaller side, it lends itself well to the quaint atmosphere of the restaurant (and rumor has it that the waiting area may be expanding soon!). “Opening a new restaurant with a new type of ordering style, All You Can Eat, in the cold winter felt so hard, however we never gave up. At the beginning, people questioned and doubted the food quality when they heard of AYCE, but we use high quality ingredients and make all the sauces with our original recipes,” Tina He, owner, said.
One of Lin and Tina’s favorite parts of running Miga are the customers. “Customers who don’t know you at all become friends. When they call in 53 ROLL, VOLCANO ROLL, & CHICKEN TERIYAKI their orders, I already know who they are,” Tina said, “I know what they want just by hearing their voices and we feel so appreciated. Sometimes customers request to pay other customers’ bills without knowing them, like for people serving in the Army. We also support our local schools and charities.” Owning a restaurant and running the day-to-day operations are not for the faint of heart. It’s a “hard job, with long hours, and we have to be ready to expect all different kinds of requests, but being in Denville makes it so easy.” If you don’t want to do AYCE, you can just order individual items off the menu, and if you don’t eat sushi, you can still find a number of other delicious sections to satisfy your appetite easily. Our favorite choices include the Spider Roll, Volcano Roll, Denville King Roll, and the Snow White Roll, and we love their bento boxes for a quick, inexpensive graband-go lunch option. Because of their AYCE offering, the restaurant gets quite busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are strongly recommended.

BYOB in Denville Did you know that prior to November 2018, a restaurant couldn't advertise the fact that they are BYOB? The US District Court for the District of New Jersey overturned that ruling on the basis that it was unconstitutional to regulate speech relating to alcohol. Restaurants can now actively promote they are a BYOB establishment (only wine and malt alcoholic beverages allowed), but they cannot charge you corkage fees for the wine that you bring. To the right is a list of Denville's BYOB establishments. For an added twist, Fort Nonsense Brewing Co. is the opposite...they're a BYOF (Bring Your Own Food) destination!
