Cudgen Nature Reserve is part of the largest remaining native vegetation on the Tweed Coast and is home to an exceptionally high diversity of native animal and plant species.
In addition to koalas, the reserve is home to threatened and endangered species including the long-nosed potoroo, the glossy black cockatoo, and the little bent-wing bat.
$370,000 was allocated to build a Koala Rehabilitation Hub at Pottsville. This has been developed and operated in collaboration with Currumbin Wildlife Hospital for the rehabilitation of injured koalas and those infected with chlamydia, allowing researchers to conduct vaccine trials that will help tackle the disease in koalas on the Tweed Coast.

Over 22,000 koala food trees have been planted to help secure the population.
