It makes a perfect souvenir for anyone captivated by the vibrant food culture of
Northern NSW. The artwork, created by Kat’s partner and local artist, Lynda Hope, began as a stunning watercolor painting, now displayed as the original in the shop.
For a deeper dive into the world of cheese, book an after-hours tasting. Every two weeks, Kat hosts intimate tastings designed for small groups, ideal for celebrations or casual gatherings. Groups of six to eight can reserve a session any afternoon in December and January. The experience is personal, relaxed, and enlightening, with Kat drawing on her background in cheffing and cheese making to bring each pairing to life.
Kat’s tastings are more than just a sampling; they’re a journey through the intricate science and storytelling of cheese. She explains each cheese’s origins, traditional production methods, and the nuances of aging and maturation, giving guests a fuller appreciation for the artistry of cheesemaking.

In the world of wellness, Ancestral Nutrition stands out for its focus on nutrient-dense superfoods— particularly organ meats like beef liver. Founded by Matt Blackham and Stuart Cooke, the company is driven by a shared passion for health and a deep personal commitment to improving the lives of others. Tweed Coast Living recently sat down with the founders to learn more about their journey, the challenges they’ve faced, and their vision for the future of nutrition.
Matt’s path into the world of nutrition was shaped by his wife’s ongoing health struggles. For years, she battled fatigue, headaches, and brain fog, prompting extensive medical testing. The diagnosis? An MTHFR gene mutation, which impairs the body’s ability to process certain vitamins. Surprisingly, Matt and his children also carried the mutation. Despite trying various synthetic B-vitamin supplements, his wife’s symptoms persisted.
It wasn’t until Matt discovered a podcast by a US-based doctor, who also had the same genetic mutation, that he found a potential solution. The doctor recommended nutrient-dense, whole foods like beef liver and egg yolks, which are rich in bioavailable B-vitamins. This discovery sparked Matt’s interest in organ meats as a natural alternative to synthetic supplements—and ultimately led to the creation of Ancestral Nutrition. The company was born out of a desire to help others who might be dealing with similar health issues.
Stuart came on board after meeting Matt while running his own natural health supplement business. With both of them sharing a passion for wellness and a desire to provide high-quality products, they recognised a gap in the market for nutrient-dense, whole-food supplements made locally. Combining their expertise, they co-founded Ancestral Nutrition.
One of the early challenges Matt and Stuart faced was sourcing high-quality organ meats. In Australia, the options were limited, and what was available often lacked the quality they were seeking. Sourcing organ meats overseas posed its own
difficulties, including long delivery times and high shipping costs.
Determined to provide a local, sustainable option, the pair turned their attention to Tasmania’s pristine pastures, known for raising high-quality beef. Through extensive research and farm visits, they identified suppliers who met their strict standards for both quality and ethical farming practices. Independent audits for certified grass-fed cattle proved superior to organic certification alone, ensuring the beef organs they sourced were both nutritious and raised under humane conditions.
For Matt and Stuart, educating consumers about the power of organ meats is essential. They’re passionate about shifting the conversation from just “iron-rich” foods to the full range of benefits that organ meats offer. Liver, for example, is not just a source of iron but is packed with other essential nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin B12, and folate—vital for immune function, energy, and cognitive health.
Education is a central part of Ancestral Nutrition’s mission. “Organ meats are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Yet, many people have never been taught about the wealth of vitamins and minerals they contain,” explains Stuart. The company aims to disrupt the wellness industry by showing that whole foods—particularly organ meats—can be an effective, natural alternative to synthetic supplements.
Despite their impressive nutrient profile, organ meats still carry a “yuck factor” for many people. When discussing organ meats, the most common reaction is a mixture of
disbelief and reluctance. “The biggest misconception is the strong taste and texture of organ meats,” Matt says. “But our freeze-dried organ supplements are tasteless, odourless, and bioavailable—packed with nutrients but without any of the unpleasant qualities that put people off.”
For many customers, once they understand the benefits and ease of incorporating these supplements into their daily routines, the hesitation fades.
As plant-based eating continues to grow in popularity, some customers question the role of animal-based supplements. While Matt and Stuart respect everyone’s dietary choices, they believe it’s important to recognise that plant-based diets can lead to nutrient deficiencies. “Plant-based supplements can be helpful, but they don’t have the bioavailability of animal-based options,” says Matt.
Organ meats, are packed with essential nutrients that are more easily absorbed by the body than plantbased alternatives. “Our supplements provide a natural, effective way to fill nutrient gaps,” explains Stuart. “They provide a broader spectrum of nutrients that are far more bioavailable— up to 17 times more accessible for the body when it comes to iron—ensuring the body can swiftly and efficiently absorb what it needs.”
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Ancestral Nutrition’s ethos, and it’s a priority they take very seriously. The company proudly partners with a sixth-genera-
tion, Australian family-owned business that specialises in raising high-quality, grass-fed beef—considered one of the most sustainable food sources we can consume. All of Ancestral Nutrition’s products are sourced from accredited Tasmanian farms, each of which adheres to a strict quality assurance program. These farms are focused on regenerative farming practices that support key ecological outcomes such as improving soil health, fostering biodiversity, maintaining waterway health, and promoting carbon sequestration. By choosing to work with these farmers, Ancestral Nutrition is not only ensuring top-quality organ meats but also contributing to the long-term sustainability of the food system.
Looking ahead, Matt and Stuart are focused on growing both their product range and their outreach efforts. The return of Stuart’s popular podcast, The Health Sessions, will allow them to share insights from wellness experts and connect with their audience. They’re also planning in-person events to foster a sense of community and further educate people on the benefits of organ meats.
Reflecting on their journey, both Matt and Stuart agree that the most rewarding part of building Ancestral Nutrition has been hearing from their customers. “The feedback we get from people— how our products have improved their energy levels, mental clarity, and overall health—is incredibly fulfilling,” says Stuart.
For Matt, it’s all about knowing that
Ancestral Nutrition is making a real difference in people’s lives. “We’ve created something that’s helping people feel better, live healthier lives, and reach their wellness goals,” he says.
Ancestral Nutrition’s commitment to high-quality, nutrient-dense products, along with its focus on education and sustainability, continues to set it apart in the competitive wellness market. Matt and Stuart’s passion for whole foods and natural health solutions is driving the future of the brand— helping Australians take charge of their health, one nutrient-packed supplement at a time.

Stacey Pamment’s journey is one of determination, self-discovery, and renewal. Her travels have taken her to breathtaking places around the world, but it’s the lessons learned along the way that have led her to a deeper sense of inner peace and purpose. A turning point in her life, coupled with her wellness challenges, has shaped her unique approach to wellness, self-care, and the importance of seeking support through life’s challenges.
Now based in Murwillumbah, Stacey is a passionate wellness and fitness coach, deeply embedded in her local community. Her diverse wellness practices— ranging from yoga and bungee fitness to breath work and Reiki—form the foundation of her holistic approach. Last year, Stacey took a bold step forward by founding The Stables, a dedicated space for healing and connection. Tweed Coast Living magazine sat down with Stacey to
learn more about her inspiring journey and her commitment to helping others live their best, balanced lives.
Can you share the story behind The Stables? What inspired you to start this business?
The vision for The Stables began to take shape in early 2023 during a visit to my family’s property in Australia while I was living abroad. This trip coincided with my contemplation of moving closer to family after a decade overseas. During my visit, I recognised the unique potential of this space.
Having previously run a business focused on hosting and facilitating yoga, wellness events, and retreats, I saw an opportunity to collaborate with others in the community and share their offerings. For years, I felt limited by the options available in a small coastal town, and I
wanted to be a part of and provide, in a bigger way, a space for others to facilitate and share their unique experiences.
Can you tell us about The Stables— when and where was it founded?
The Stables, located on Cane Road opposite the Murwillumbah racecourse, was originally a working horse stable for racehorses. After the recent floods, it underwent renovations to restore its structures and enhance its facilities. We officially opened in January 2024 and have since hosted private events, wellness workshops, day retreats, and weekly bungee fitness, yoga and dance classes.
How does the location and atmosphere of The Stables contribute to the overall experience for guests?
Conveniently situated just outside town, The Stables is easily accessible,
just a 20-minute drive from Tweed and Kingscliff. Upon arrival, guests step into a tranquil country sanctuary surrounded by lush gardens and a welcoming atmosphere. By night, the arena and grounds come alive with soft lighting, while stunning sunrises over the creek and sunsets over Mt. Wollumbin create a breathtaking backdrop.
How does incorporating fun, such as with bungee fitness, into wellbeing have a greater benefit?
Incorporating fun into wellness encourages us to laugh, allowing our inner child to play and helping us let go of the control and rigidity that often hold
“Incorporating fun into wellness encourages us to laugh, allowing our inner child to play and helping us let go of the control and rigidity that often hold us back.”
us back. Play and curiosity are essential values for me, and I immerse myself in them daily. I love envisioning, creating or improving spaces, being creative and manifesting joy through meditation, surfing, yoga, and gardening.
What has been your most memorable event/workshop hosted at The Stables?
We’ve hosted a diverse array of events, from live music and birthday parties to wellness workshops like breathwork and sound healing. One standout event was our ‘Sensory Wellness Retreat’ day, which included art therapy, dance, and yoga. Each gathering fosters a
sense of community and connection, making every experience at The Stables truly memorable.
What does community mean to you?
Community has been my family for the past decade while living abroad, and it means everything to me. The people in my communities have supported and guided me through thick and thin. I love living in Murwillumbah; despite being new, I already feel a sense of familiarity, receiving warm greetings when I shop or grab coffee. The openness of the locals to engage in conversation adds to this sense of belonging.
Through Stacey’s work at The Stables and also within the community, she leads to inspire others to embrace wellbeing in all its forms. With her passion and dedication, Stacey is creating a space where people can come together, celebrate and thrive in a supportive and welcoming environment. Whether it be for a group bungee class, for a Saturday morning yoga flow, a wellness workshop, or to gather for a private party, this is your place to try something new, be inspired on your wellness journey, and celebrate with friends and family in a beautiful setting. The Stables can offer you this unique experience.

Tshared love for surfing, are keeping the ancient craft of stone masonry alive in the Northern Rivers region. Their stunning stonework has earned them a reputation for creating durable, beautiful structures that honour both tradition and the natural landscape.
For Adam and Josh, stone masonry is more than just a trade—it’s a passion and a connection to the past. Their journey into the craft began with a fascination for its history and its role in building resilient, lasting landscapes. They see themselves as part of a long line of artisans who built the walls, bridges, and monuments that have stood the test of time.
But the brothers’ love of travel has also played a big part in shaping their approach to stonework. Over the years, they’ve ventured to remote villages in places like the Himalayas, where they had the opportunity to witness traditional stone masonry firsthand. There, they saw how local craftsmen used nothing but natural stone and their own hands to create buildings and structures that have stood strong for centuries, despite harsh weather and the test of time. It was an experience that deepened their appreciation for the craft and reinforced their commitment to preserving its traditional methods.
In a world where concrete and manufactured materials have become the norm, Adam and Josh stand apart by dedicating themselves to natural stone. Each stone is carefully selected for its unique shape, texture, and colour, ensuring that every project blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Whether it’s a robust retaining wall, a polished patio, or a simple garden path, their stonework feels like it has always been part of the land.
As surfers, the brothers have a deep respect for the elements—water, wind, and earth—that shape both the landscape and their approach to masonry. Their work is driven by a sense of sustainability and harmony with nature, creating pieces that are as enduring as they are beautiful. For them, stone
masonry isn’t just about building structures; it’s about creating timeless art that honours the land and the forces that shape it.
For Adam and Josh, stone masonry is a calling—a way to celebrate the beauty, strength, and resilience of natural materials. If you’re looking for a landscaper or stone mason who combines craftsmanship, artistry, and a deep respect for the environment, get in touch with them today. The creation of Haus of Armour is a powerful story of personal reinvention and how fashion can be a catalyst for healing and empowerment. It’s the culmination of two very different careers—interior design and social work—and 23 years of experience that led Kate Jackson, the founder, to create a space that empowers women who have survived domestic violence.
Kate’s first career was in interior design, a field she worked in for 12 years, with roles spanning London, Dubai, and Melbourne. Her final job in the industry involved designing fivestar hotels, a position she was initially thrilled about. However, the glamour of high-end projects soon left her feeling disillusioned by the industry.
Her love for fashion, however, remained a constant in her life, and Kate began exploring the possibility of becoming a fashion stylist. Before diving into that path, she decided to take a life-changing trip to Kenya, where she volunteered with local communities. The experience opened her eyes to the power of self-worth and the significant impact that support and empowerment could have on someone’s life.
Upon returning to Melbourne, Kate continued her volunteering efforts by working with young people experiencing homelessness. This led her to pivot her career completely. She enrolled in youth work studies and, upon completing her course, made a dramatic shift from designing luxury hotels to working in a young men’s prison. This stark contrast ignited an idea that would eventually shape the future of Haus of
Armour—using fashion as a tool for rebuilding identity and self-worth, particularly for those who have been marginalised and abused.
The Birth of Haus of Armour
After relocating to the Northern Rivers in 2021, Kate started working as a domestic violence support worker. It was here, in the heart of this challenging but deeply rewarding work, that she witnessed firsthand the profound emotional and psychological damage that domestic violence has on women. Kate explains, “Domestic violence isn’t just an isolated incident—it’s a pattern of abuse that erodes a woman’s sense of self-worth and agency. Many women experience emotional and psychological abuse daily, which strips them of their autonomy and diminishes their connection to self.”
It was from this understanding that Haus of Armour was born. Kate created the program as a means of helping women and gender-diverse individuals reclaim their self-worth and rebuild their lives, particularly those who had experienced domestic abuse. Haus of Armour is a safe space where fashion serves as a powerful tool for healing. It’s not about superficial makeovers—it’s about using fashion to provide emotional support and help women rebuild their confidence and mental health.

The concept of “fashion as armour” is inspired by the famous quote by photographer Bill Cunningham: “Fashion is the armour we use to survive the reality of everyday life.” Kate has seen how the right clothes can serve as a protective shield, especially for women navigating the emotional aftermath of domestic violence.
In practical terms, fashion as armour means helping women find clothing that restores their sense of identity and self-respect. This could be for a woman who is going to court to testify against her abuser, or for a mother making difficult exchanges with an ex-partner. It might also be for a woman who, having endured years of emotional abuse, needs to feel empowered just to face the day. Kate explains, “Clothes are not just about appearance—they can help women build strength and face situations that feel overwhelming. It’s a tool for reclaiming self-worth.”
The response from the women who have benefited from Haus of Armour’s styling sessions has been overwhelmingly positive. One particular testimonial stands out. A woman who had fled domestic violence in Sydney arrived in the Northern Rivers with little more than a backpack. After a styling session with Kate, she said, “Having another strong, intelligent and creative queen helped me fix my crown in a way that ignited my inner flame of self-worth. She literally let the clothes do the talking in a way that boosted my self-love and self-
worth, which had been stripped bare.”
Clothes have immense power over our mental and emotional states. There is a science that underpins the work of Haus of Armour: it’s called enclothed cognition; it’s not about fluffy makeovers. Fashion is not just about looking and feeling good, but is a tool that can influence our thoughts and actions in various situations. For many women who have experienced domestic violence, the act of dressing in clothing that makes them feel strong, beautiful, and capable can catalyse an incredible shift in their outlook and behaviour.
Kate’s vision for Haus of Armour extends beyond styling. She hopes to create a high-end second-hand boutique that sells donated clothes, helping to fund the program and offer more women the opportunity to participate. Additionally, Kate envisions further partnerships with fashion brands and local businesses to grow the impact of Haus of Armour in the community.
The success of Haus of Armour is thanks to the support of generous fashion partners such as The Harmonic, DISSH, Thread Together, and Sunglass Fix, who donate clothing and accessories for styling sessions. This allows each woman who walks through the doors to leave with at least three outfits, completely free of charge.
Kate is also hopeful that the community will continue to support Haus of Armour, whether through donations, fundraising events, or by hiring Kate as a fashion stylist, with the proceeds helping to fund the program. As the program grows, she is also open to collaborating with corporate partners who share a commitment to social responsibility and empowering women.
Haus of Armour is not just a business—it’s a lifeline. It’s a way to help women rebuild after trauma, restore their self-worth, and embrace their full potential. By combining her love for fashion with her deep commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence, Kate has created a powerful space where healing, empowerment, and style intersect.
For those who are looking for ways to support Haus of Armour, following the project on Instagram, making a donation, or attending one of Kate’s styling sessions are all great ways to contribute to this important cause.
Fashion truly can be armour—and for many women in the Northern Rivers, Haus of Armour is helping them reclaim their strength, one outfit at a time.

In the heart of the bustling markets, Andrew and Trudie Bridgewood, along with their three kids, have created a beloved snow cone stand that has become a local sensation—Snowman Shave Ice. Launched in 2017 at Salt Village Market, this family-run business quickly became a favourite for families and tourists alike, thanks to its fun, refreshing treats and commitment to community fun.
Starting a snow cone stand was a leap into the unknown for the Bridgewoods. With no prior experience in the world of shave ice, they learned the ropes on the go. But their dedication to quality and fun customer service paid off. Today, Snowman Shave Ice has earned a reputation as one of the go-to stops for market-goers in the Northern Rivers area.
For the Bridgewoods, community is at the heart of everything they do. They rely on local support and pride themselves on the relationships they’ve built with their customers. Known affectionately as the “Snowman and Snow Lady,” Andrew and Trudie
often see familiar faces returning to the stand, making the experience feel like a reunion. The family also gives back to the community, regularly fundraising for local schools and sporting clubs, making sure their business positively impacts the area they love.
The most rewarding part of running the stand? The joy it brings to all ages. “This is the best snow cone ever!” is a phrase often heard from their young customers. Kids are their most honest judges, and their enthusiasm says it all. Parents share that their children and teens eagerly anticipate their next snow cone, with some even doing extra chores at home just for the privilege. It’s moments like these that make the work worthwhile.
What makes Snowman Shave Ice stand out from the crowd? It all starts with the ice. The Bridgewoods shave it manually, creating a light, fluffy texture that melts in your mouth, and they offer a wide range of flavours, from classic Hawaiian favourites to unique new natural options. The family adds a fun twist by dressing up in superhero outfits or festive costumes during holidays, and they always play cheerful music, making each visit a celebration in itself. Exciting new flavours, like Ice Coffee and Ice Chocolate, are also on the horizon, giving customers even more reasons to stop by.
The Bridgewoods are committed to using high-quality ingredients and eco-friendly practices. Their snow cones
are served in home compostable cups and spoons, and they cater to a variety of dietary needs; all flavours are dairyfree, gluten-free, egg-free, fat-free and nut-free, ensuring everyone can enjoy a refreshing treat.
The journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. From floods to COVID shutdowns and market closures, the Bridgewoods have faced their fair share of setbacks. Despite these obstacles, they’ve continued to grow and adapt, expanding beyond Salt Village to serve at markets in Pottsville, Brunswick Heads, Bangalow, Kingscliff, Byron Beachside, and Lennox Head. Their commitment to bringing joy and refreshing treats to even more communities has helped them connect with a wider audience.
Every snow cone served at Snowman Shave Ice is more than just a treat—it’s part of a lasting memory. Customers often take photos with their snow cones, capturing the fun of family outings and holiday moments. The stand has also gained a following among Japanese and American tourists, further adding to its charm and appeal.
As the Bridgewood family continues to cool down their community with delicious snow cones, they remind everyone that nothing beats a refreshing shave ice on a hot day. Snowman Shave Ice is a testament to the power of community, creativity, and the joy of a simply amazing, well-made, tasty treat.
Ihadno idea that a Kahuna massage could change my life. On 31 December 2016, a 90-minute spiritual dance turned my life upside down. Afterwards, nothing was as it used to be. The only thing I knew was that something was going to change. But what? The urge to talk to someone grew daily. But to whom? Who would understand what I had experienced when I didn’t understand it myself? Eventually, I started working with a life coach to unravel the mystery.
With every day that passed after this other-worldly experience, I realised that many chapters in my life had ended. At the same time, a new path was emerging. I didn’t know where it would lead me. Rather than hurtling through my days, I started feeling my way through each day, each hour, each moment. In the course of the most challenging year of my life, I decided to leave my marriage after 23 years.
I started journaling, and my memoir manuscript followed a different trajectory. It was a healing experience to let my emotions and thoughts flow freely on the pages. In the process, I realised that these pivotal moments in our lives offer us two choices:
1. We become a victim of our circumstances, or
2. We use them as a springboard for growth and embrace the unknown,
the scary, and the opportunities that come with change.
When my memoir Dare to Dance was published in April 2022, I started looking for speaking opportunities to share my story and vision to inspire women to celebrate midlife. That’s when I came across a new storytelling event, called Stories that Stir™.
Stories that Stir™ was founded in February 2022 by husband and wife duo Monica Rosenfeld and Joram van der Starre as a movement to break down barriers, stir conversations and inspire positive change. The aim is to bring together storytellers from all walks of life to share raw and personal experiences, facilitating human connection and healing through storytelling. It was a perfect match for my creative work.
After experiencing my first Stories that Stir™ in June 2022, I fell in love with this unique and creative event concept, which captivates the audience with inspirational stories and positive energy. I became a regular guest.
From small beginnings, Stories that Stir™ has developed into a national movement with sold-out events and new locations kicking off around Australia, including Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and the Northern Rivers.
When I relocated to the Northern
Rivers in 2023, I asked Monica to become a local host, introducing storytelling magic to the Tweed Coast. Everybody has a story to tell, and we are always looking for local storytellers from the area. Our next event will be in early February 2025, themed CREATIVITY. If you would like to share your story, submit your application via www.storiesthatstir.com.

Think back to your childhood. What’s a memorable experience you had in nature? Whether it was playing in the dirt, climbing trees, or exploring dunes, those moments are more than just memories—they’re key to our development.
Nature is a powerful catalyst for growth. Studies show that outdoor activities improve attention spans, reduce stress, and enhance academic performance. In nature, children engage multiple senses—whether they’re exploring a garden or playing outside—stimulating the brain and supporting cognitive development. Physical activity in nature also boosts motor skills and health, while reducing stress and fostering emotional balance. Time spent outdoors helps children reset, moving from a busy “doing” mode to a peaceful state of “being.”
Creativity and Imagination
Nature acts as a blank canvas for creativity. In unstructured outdoor play, children turn a fallen branch into a sword or a pile of leaves into a fort. This free play encourages problem-solving, independent thinking, and resilience. Nature’s wonders inspire children to create their own adventures, fostering skills that will serve them throughout life.
To bring these benefits to more children, I created the Junior Wildlife Rangers program—a hands-on, play-based learning experience focused on wildlife and environmental conservation. Each class introduces a new theme, such as building bee hotels, planting pollinator gardens, and creating art with natural materials. Kids earn badges as they master new skills, developing a deep connection to nature.
Our program also integrates Indigenous culture, through songs, music, and art, to help children appreciate the land’s history and foster respect for nature and cultural traditions.
In a world grappling with climate change, it’s vital for children to learn about conservation. Our program nurtures a love for wildlife, teaching kids to care for the planet through hands-on experiences. The goal is to raise a generation of wildlife protectors, equipped to tackle environmental challenges.
With classes available in the Tweed Coast, Gold Coast, Northern Rivers, Yamba and Melbourne, there are many opportunities to immerse your child in nature and cultivate a lifelong respect for wildlife.
Social Skills and Confidence
Outdoor play promotes social interaction. As children cooperate, share, and lead during outdoor activities, they build confidence and learn communication skills. Whether they’re building a shelter or exploring a trail, these experiences help kids develop stronger social skills in a relaxed environment.

Christmas is a time for celebration, but not everyone has family nearby or the means to cook up a big festive feast. For those feeling disconnected, the Community Christmas Lunch at Pottsville Beach Community Hall is a warm and welcoming place to be on Christmas Day. Open to all ages and backgrounds, this event offers a chance to enjoy a meal, meet new people, and connect with the local community.
Whether you’re new to the area, your family’s away, or you just want a relaxed Christmas, the lunch provides a stressfree space to celebrate.
Last year, over 100 people joined for a buffet-style lunch, complete with delicious desserts, soft drinks, and bon bons for everyone! With two long communal tables, everyone can sit together, enjoy great food, and feel part of a big festive family. It’s an inclusive event that brings people together and makes Christmas Day a little brighter for those who may feel alone.
The event relies on volunteers, and the hall is always looking for extra hands. Volunteers can help on Christmas Day or in the days before for setup. Shifts are available, so it’s not an all-day commitment. To volunteer, simply email pbch2489@gmail.com
In addition to volunteers, the event relies on donations—whether that’s food items, supermarket gift cards, or financial contributions. Thanks to a small grant from Tweed Shire Council, there’s some funding this year, but the event still depends on community generosity. An info pack is available for those who want to help.
The Community Christmas Lunch has been a beloved tradition in Pottsville Beach. It’s more than just a meal; it’s about connection, support, and creating a sense of belonging. The committee hopes to continue this tradition for years to come with the ongoing generosity of local volunteers and donors.
For more information or to help, contact the hall at pbch2489@gmail.com. Let’s make this Christmas special for everyone in the community!
This summer, local artist Meli Axford is inviting everyone in the community—mothers, daughters, friends, wives, nieces, granddaughters, and every girl you care about— to experience Portraits of Love: A Mother’s Perspective, a new exhibition at the Tweed Regional Gallery. Running from November to February 9, the show is a celebration of daughters and sends the powerful message that girls matter. This exhibition is for them—a reminder that their voices count, that their stories are important, and that they deserve to be seen and celebrated. Whether you’re a local or visiting Tweed over the summer, it’s the perfect destination for a meaningful day out.
Portraits of Love is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Inspired by Meli Axford’s own daughters, Lily and Mia, each piece captures moments of joy, contemplation, and strength, as they engage with each other, their surroundings, and their beloved moodles, Dug and Polo. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Tweed hinterland, these vibrant, large-scale works centre around scenes by the family pool—a space that represents everything Meli and her husband
have created to nurture, support, and protect their daughters. The pool itself is more than just a physical place; it symbolises a sanctuary of belonging—a safe haven where the girls can flourish, feel valued, and know their feelings matter.
As a woman, Meli Axford has seen firsthand how societal messages can often diminish the worth of girls from an early age. Through this body of work, she seeks to challenge those limiting beliefs and affirm the equal value of daughters. Each painting explores the beauty, resilience, and strength of young girls, and the inherent worth they bring to the world. Meli hopes the exhibition will inspire young girls to recognise their own value, and serve as a reminder to everyone that daughters, like sons, deserve to be celebrated and valued equally.
Meli invites everyone to visit Portraits of Love at the Tweed Regional Gallery this summer, and join in celebrating the strength, tenacity, and beauty of daughters. Let’s come together to honour the message that every girl’s story matters.
