What we’re doing to reduce our carbon footprint

We are always reviewing our environmental impact. Each quarter, our sustainability focus team works through our current commitments to drive forward our sustainable strategy.

Being in the packaging industry means we have a responsibility to reduce the amount of packaging materials being used while offering the most environmentally friendly options for our customers. Our team of experts, with over 50 years of experience, has a focus on improving our own environmental impact and becoming a more sustainable business too.

With the assistance of Planet Mark, we will be able to track our overall carbon footprint and set goals to reduce our emissions, water consumption, and energy use. We aim to do everything we can to reach this target with the absolute minimal amount of offsetting required.

New premises: We recently moved from 4 buildings to 1 large distribution centre in Andover. This has helped create a more efficient operation and given us the ability to track the use of resources.

Improved road links: Being located in Andover has allowed us to improve our route planning, reducing our carbon footprint.

Energy efficiency: We are solely powered by green energy and solar panels. Our building has twice the recommended warehouse roof lighting and we are using motion lighting.

Water consumption: We monitor our water consumption and are always looking for new ways to reduce the amount we use.

Electric Car Charging points: We have recently installed electric car charging points on site.

Dynasafe Retention Packaging offers amazing versatility, providing solutions for packing a diverse range of fragile, and medium to high value products.

One-Piece: One-piece retention packaging is supplied as a one-piece component and is designed to protect and secure your product without any additional packaging.

Two-Piece: Two-piece retention packaging is typically used for multiple items or larger single items such as laptops. The inserts in combination with the outers provides excellent protection and security removing the need for any other void fill packaging.

Don’t worry about the film! The plastics total weight is under 1.5%, so the product is 100% recyclable.

Corrugated layer pads can be produced in any size and used as dividers, pallet stabilisers, protectors and top boards. We also hold a range in stock, available in pallet quantities.

Presswood Pallets

Presswood pallets are made from reconstituted waste wood and conform to ISPM15 regulations for export. Their unique design allows the pallets to be nested together, taking less than half the space used by conventional pallets.

These pressed wood pallets are produced in high-pressure presses. The wood chips are mixed with a synthetic resin until the super-strong Inka Presswood pallets are pressed.

Polythene Products

Our Low Density polythene bags are excellent for packing virtually any product for transport, presentation or simply as a dust cover. Available in a wide range of sizes and thicknesses, we can also produce bespoke polythene bags to your preferred size and colour, as well as providing a complete design and print service.

Layflat tubing, known as polythene tubing, is a continuous length of polythene tubing that creates custom bags of almost any shape and size. This product is used to improve presentation and add security. The polythene can be sealed with either heat sealers or bag ties.

Hexcel Wrap Bench

Increase efficiency with the integrated Hexcel bench.

The use of Hexcel Wrap – a paper alternative to bubble wrap – has been made even easier with the development of an integrated dispenser. Housed under the bench, the Hexcel paper is simply passed through a pair of rollers and dispensed onto the bench at the optimal position for the packers.

This design maximises the usable area of the bench, and dramatically increases efficiency. To reload, a section of the bench lifts up and allows rolls to be placed easily and ergonomically.

Protega Protect

The ‘Protega Protect’ is a unique desktop paper machine that produces high volume ‘on demand’ protective paper packaging.

The footprint of the slimline Protega machine is not much larger than an office printer and fits easily into even the smallest despatch area. Alternatively, it can be placed on a height adjustable stand and integrated into a packing line.

One unique feature of this machine is that the paper rolls are prefolded. This means they are easier to handle than traditional wide paper rolls, enabling the machine to be manufactured to a very small footprint of only 635mm x 360mm and at a weight of only 50kg.

Dynawrap - Pre Streched Film

Dynawrap is proving to be one of the strongest high yielding pre-stretched pallet wrap materials on the market today. Extensive tests have shown that pre-stretched pallet wrap can save users tonnes of waste pallet wrap film, cardboard cores and cartons every year, preserving the environment and keeping costs down.

Our LLDPE cast NANO technology stretch film suitable for applications with high performance automatic wrapping machines and where high production output is required.

This film allows down gauging thickness maintaining high film performances, leading to packaging cost saving along with environmental protection.

Handywrap film is great for all bundling applications, applies quickly and easily and leaves no residue on the product. This is best used with a Handywrap dispenser (Code GKN4) which enables rapid application; simply push it through the core and click it into place.

Cast Machine Wrap

Power pre-stretched film stretches up to 250%. For use on all types of turnable machines from core brake to power pre-stretch machines.

Cast Hand Wrap

We stock hand pallet wrap in various widths, gauges and lengths. Cast hand rolls are produced to create natural cling.

Dispensers

These film dispensers have a robust construction, making them ideal for wrapping standard core film to carry out pallet wrapping tasks. These dispensers are manually controlled with twistgrip handles, making it easier to maintain the correct tension while wrapping.

Poly Shrink Film

(LDPE) is still a relatively inexpensive method of packing most goods that need to be transported. The shrink film covers are supplied perforated on a roll for quick application. This extremely light product adds very little to the weight of the product, offers excellent protection from the elements and maintains a degree of puncture resistance.

E-Tape 1

A strong robust tape made from polypropylene, which has a solvent adhesive, giving excellent strength and adhesive qualities.

E-Tape 2

A strong, economical version of E-Tape 1. E-Tape 2 is made from polypropylene and has a hotmelt adhesive.

E-Tape Plus

E-Tape Plus has been developed to overcome the traditional problems of acrylic tape, with a 25% increase of adhesive! The adhesion of E-Tape Plus compares favourably with solvent tapes.

Why have we invested in agricultural waste packaging?

Test Valley are always looking for new ways to bring sustainable solutions to our customers. With the recent Plastic Tax and EPR announcement, it is inevitable that businesses will need to switch to more sustainable materials.

With over 40+ years in the packaging industry, Test Valley are often ahead of the game when it comes to innovation. We have a team of new product developers who research the market with the environment as the main focus.

So what if we could create the same material, but without cutting down a single tree?

Our RAW Packaging is an innovative and sustainable packaging solution that is made from agricultural waste from crops such as sugar cane and wheat located on Indian farms.

By utilising waste materials that would otherwise go to landfill or be incinerated, we are able to reduce the environmental impact of the packaging and create a more sustainable future for all.

Although paper is recognised as a sustainable alternative to plastic, it does still have it’s downsides; such as:

• Loss of biodiversity

• Climate change

• Soil Erosion

• Water cycle disruption

• Loss of indigenous culture

• Air & Water pollution

By using RAW you contribute less to the above points.

Is it future proof?

The supply of the RAW material capacity from India has hardly been touched. We would like to offer more farmers the opportunity to work with us in providing their waste products to be recycled.

What’s more, our RAW Packaging has been independently tested using ISO 14040, SimaPro9 and ecoinvent to measure its environmental impact. The results of the ‘cradle to grave’ LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) show that the paper reduces carbon emissions by 28% compared to traditional wood fibre paper.

This means that by choosing RAW Packaging, you are not only making a more sustainable choice, you are significantly reducing your carbon footprint and environmental impact.

RAW packaging products are produced using paper from our partners envoPAP. This paper has been run through an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), done by Intertek, a trusted assessor. Using the framework from ISO14040, SimaPro9 and ecoinvent to measure the environmental impact and declare results of a comparison to wood fibre paper from European mills.
