ARE lettrici e cari lettori, mai un evento del secondo Dopoguerra, degli ultimi settant'anni per i più giovani, ha colpito società, sanità ed economia come il Coronavirus Covid-19. Ma è successo di più: la pandemia ha inciso sulla nostra salute, sulle nostre abitudini, sulla nostra socialità e su quanto di più bello c'è nel turismo: l'incontro di culture, modi di vivere, di mangiare, ascoltare le lingue, vivere i paesaggi e la natura. Uno sconvolgimento dal quale ci alzeremo ancor più consapevoli di quanto di bello e godibile ci ofrono Bolzano e i suoi dintorni!

IEBE Leserinnen und Leser, noch nie hat ein Ereignis nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, in den letzten 70 Jahren, die Gesellschaft, das Gesundheitswesen und die Wirtschaft so getrofen wie das Coronavirus Covid-19. Noch mehr: Die Pandemie hat Auswirkungen auf unsere Gesundheit gehabt, unsere Gewohnheiten geändert, unser Zusammenleben auf den Kopf gestellt. Und auch das revolutioniert, was den Tourismus ausmacht und das Reisen erstrebenswert macht – die Begegnung mit anderen Kulturen und anderen Lebensweisen, das Kennenlernen anderer Geplogenheiten in Küche und Keller, das Sich-Einlassen auf andere Sprachen, sogar unsere Art, die Natur und die Landschaft wahrzunehmen.

Diese Erschütterung war ein Schock und vielleicht heilsam zugleich. Wir werden daraus eine Kehrtwende machen und viel bewusster leben und erleben, was uns Bozen und seine Umgebung an Schönem und Genussreichem schenkt.

EAR Readers, No event since the Second World War has afected society, healthcare and the economy as much as Covid-19.

The pandemic has impacted our wellbeing, changed our habits and turned our lives upside down. It has also called into question the joy of travel. In these times, discovering other cultures, customs and languages, savouring delicacies from the local kitchen and cellar, even the landscape and nature have all taken on a diferent meaning.

Of course, we shall recover from this, perhaps appreciating much more consciously what Bolzano and its surroundings ofer us, in terms of the beauty and pleasure they give us.

DIETRO AL VIRUS C’È SOLIDARIETÀ Grazie. Grazie a chi non ha esitato a stare in prima linea per affrontare la crisi, per combattere il virus in primo luogo, ma anche per continuare a sostenere il nostro sistema, non solo di approvvigionamento. Nonostante paure, incertezze, dolore, è prevalsa la ragione, la prudenza, il senso di responsabilità delle bolzanine e dei bolzanini, quello che chiamiamo senso civico e cuore.

Ora sembra che il peggio sia passato, su piano internazionale e locale, ma ci sarà da lavorare molto per riprenderci i nostri spazi, la quotidianità, il lavoro ed il tempo libero. Per riaprire la nostra città al mondo.

Anfang Juli wird der neue Erlebnisweg für Familien am Rittner Horn fertiggestellt. Maskottchen und Namensgeber ist Adler Toni, der schon den ganzen Winter über das Horn flog und Skifahrer und Winterwanderer immer wieder überraschte. Als König der Lüfte hat er sich nach vielen Reisen sein neues Abenteuerreich am Ritten ausgesucht. Vor allem die Kinder werden von seinen Hinweisen angetan sein, denn zuerst fliegen sie ab Pemmern auf den Spuren von Toni mit der Rittner Horn Kabinenbahn zur Schwarzseespitze hinauf, dann spazieren sie wenige Schritte bis zum Panoramaturm, wo sie den Adlerblick selbst ausprobieren können.

Auf dem Parcours finden sie ein riesiges Adlernest zum Herumklettern, aber auch eine Wasserwelt mit Kneippbecken und Wasserrinnen zum Planschen und Spielen, immer wieder sagenhafte Ausblicke.

Während sich die Jüngsten in Tonis Abenteuerreich vergnügen, gibt es für Eltern genügend Rastplätze zum Genießen des Panoramas und zum Sonnen. Aber vielleicht findet der eine oder andere Erwachsene es ja auch einladend, beim Spielen mitzumachen … Drei Kilometer lang ist der neue Rundweg. Er verläuft von der Bergstation Schwarzseespitze über das Untere Horn und zurück. Offizielle Eröffnung im September, begehbar ab Juli.

PFLANZEN UND SPRACHE Was ist ein Tschufferniggele“? Sie wissen es? Ins ” Schwarze getroffen (oder besser: ins Grüne) haben Sie mit Leberblümchen“ als Lösung des Rätsels. Beim ” witzigen Namen handelt es sich um eine Mundartbezeichnung aus dem Pustertal - altes Kulturgut aus dem nicht botanischen Volkstum Südtirols. Solche dialektalen Bezeichnungen werden derzeit vom Naturmuseum Südtirol in einem Forschungsprojekt erfasst, um sie in einer eigenen Datenbank vor dem Aussterben zu retten. www.natura.museum

EPPAN: NATURPHÄNOMEN

All’interno del tessuto urbano la produzione di vino ha antichissime radici. Oggi queste si traducono nel lavoro di trenta cantine private e una cantina sociale, con i vigneti che penetrano in tutti i quartieri di Bolzano e ne disegnano I contorni. Le icone di questo patrimonio sono il Santa Maddalena e il Lagrein. Due manifestazioni estive di grande portata fanno capire il profondo legame di Bolzano con il vino: una è Calici di stelle, il 10 agosto, nel centro storico, l’altra il St. Magdalener Culinarium, l’11 settembre, sul colle di Santa Maddalena.

Ogni anno in agosto Bolzano invita a trascorrere una serata alla scoperta dei vini tipici della città. Lunedì 10 agosto, la città si trasforma in un suggestivo percorso di degustazione, lungo il quale si potrà assaggiare il miglior vino delle diverse cantine vinicole della zona, conoscerne di persona i produttori, farsi raccontare le loro storie.

Il Consorzio di Tutela S. Maddalena sarà presente con i vini di punta S. Maddalena e il St. Magdalener Bistro, dove si potranno assaporare non solo vini, ma anche alcune specialità gastronomiche.

Mentre il St. Magdalener Culinarium, in programma venerdì 11 settembre e sabato 12 settembre, vuole sorprendere con le preziose varietà del vino autoctono più famoso, il S. Maddalena classico. Dove? Beh, dove viene prodotto, nelle vigne e nelle cantine dei produttori locali che ne svelano alcuni segreti proprio sul colle da cui prende il nome, a nord-ovest di Bolzano.

0 bis 9 Grad Celsius misst die Luft in den geheimnisvollen Eislöchern bei St. Michael, Fraktion von Eppan.

In den heißesten Monaten ist eine Wanderung zu den mythenumwobenen Eislöchern besonders für Familien mit Kindern ein Erlebnis. Eisige Kälte selbst im Sommer: Das Klimaereignis erklärt sich durch das physikalische Prinzip der Windröhre. Warme Luft strömt am oberen Rand der Porphyrschuttmassen dieser Gegend, der kalte Fels im Wald kühlt sie ab und lässt sie durch Spalten nach unten sinken. In der Mulde bleibt die kalte Luft liegen. Je tiefer man sich in die Mulde wagt, desto fühlbarer die Kälte, was man auch am Pflanzenbestand sieht, der sonst nur im Hochgebirge vorkommt.

Wandertipp: Start vom Dorfplatz in St. Michael. 100 m südlich beim St. Anna Kirchlein biegt der Weg 7 ab und führt durch Pigeno vorbei an Schloss Gandegg zum Stroblhof. Dort der Wegmarkierung 15 in südliche Richtung bis zu den Eislöchern folgen. Zurück über Weg 7A zum Gasthof Steinegger und 8B zur Gleifkirche nach St. Michael. Höhenunterschied: 100 m. Dauer: 2,5 h. Die Wanderung lässt sich für Geübte auf bis zu 6 h verlängern, indem man bei den Eislöchern in den Eppaner Höhenweg steigt.

KRAFTPLATZ IN JENESIEN Ein bezaubernder Ort, der Aussicht und der Mythen wegen, ist die Stelle der Stoanernen Mandln“ ” (Steinernen Männlein) am Tschögglberg. An die 100 mannshohe Steingestalten erwarten Wanderer*innen am Ziel der Wanderung in den Sarntaler Alpen (ab Flaas 4 h 40 min). Sie halten Wache, weisen den Weg … Der Ursprung ist vermutlich keltisch (Ritzzeichen), eindeutig belegt im Mittelalter (eine Gerichtsschrift von 1540). Ob hier prähistorische Riten stattgefunden haben, ob Hexentänze und Teufelsfeiern, die Almkuppe auf 2000 m strahlt Erhabenheit und Ruhe aus und ist perfekt zum Krafttanken. www.jenesien.net

Sono le “sentinelle dell’ambiente”. Infatti, le api segnalano quando l’ambiente è in bilico, non impollinano più, muoiono. Da qualche anno si (s)muove l’apicoltura urbana: api su tetti e balconi fra piante nettarifere per ripopolare le nostre città degli insetti più utili al mondo. Sul tetto dell’Istituto scolastico Rainerum, in pieno centro storico, ci sono una decina di arnie e si fa addirittura il miele. Il progetto “Api in città” dell’associazione Juvenes dal 2013 svolge un’attività didattico-pedagogica che permette ai giovani, studenti dagli 11 ai 18 anni, di avvicinarsi al mondo delle api con l’aiuto di apicoltori. “L’anno scorso abbiamo fatto analizzare il miele e abbiamo scoperto una gamma di polline più alta della norma. Supponiamo che sia dovuta alla densità di giardinerie a Bolzano e al fatto che i giardinieri comunali da qualche anno evitano l’utilizzo di pesticidi in città”, precisa Maria Mayr Lago, apicoltrice responsabile del progetto. “Tenere api in città di per sé non è diverso dal farlo in campagna, la sfida è tenerle nel modo giusto, per non disturbare i vicini.”

E nell‘Orto Semirurali in via Alessandria sbalordisce per il suo successo un progetto di orto urbano comunitario e multiculturale, dove ci sono altre tre colonie d’api, curate da un apicoltore esperto, che mostra a tutti gli interessati come affacciarsi all’affascinante mondo delle api.

La passeggiata in centro viene abbinata alla degustazione di due diverse tipologie di speck presso un produttore locale, dove un esperto macellaio spiegherà la storia, il processo di produzione e i criteri di qualità dello Speck altoatesino. Il percorso si conclude in un ristorante tradizionale con l’assaggio di prodotti locali.

Sobald die Temperaturen im Mai sommerlich steigen, machen sich die Bozner*innen für den Sprung ins kühle Nass zurecht. Den Auftakt macht gewöhnlich das Bozner Lido, das heimische „Strandbad“. Gefolgt von weiteren Freibädern und Badeseen im Umkreis von wenigen Kilometern bzw. Höhenmetern.

ie erste Badeanstalt in Südtirol, die der Badesaison gewöhnlich ihre Tore öffnet, nämlich bereits Mitte Mai (sie schließt mit Schulbeginn nach der ersten Septemberwoche), ist traditionsgemäß das Bozner Lido: nicht nur ein öffentliches Freischwimmbad, sondern DER Treffpunkt der Jugend, auch aufgrund des dazugehörigen Beachvolley- und Fußballfeldes, aber auch der Schwimmer*innen und Sonnenanbeter*innen im langen Bozner Sommer. Für die Städterinnen und Städter ist das Lido“ ein wesentlicher Bezugspunkt, ” vom Zentrum und der Peripherie leicht erreichbar, direkt am Radweg des Eisackufers gelegen. Sie lieben ihr Lido mit seinen weitläufigen Liegewiesen unter schattenspendenden alten Laubbäumen. Auch ältere Bozner*innen sind Stammgäste, mieten sich über den Sommer dort ein, Umkleidekabine gleich mit, und treffen sich am Beckenrand zum Aperitif. Sommergefühle sind unweigerlich mit Erinnerungen an frühere Badesaisonen, an Jugendlieben und Kindheitsträume ver12

bunden, und so gehört das Plaudern unter der Sonne im mediterranen Ambiente zur beliebten Freizeitbeschäftigung für Jung und Alt. Neben dem vielfältigen Aquafitness-Angebot.

Die Anlage wurde 1929 im Zuge der faschistischen Stadterweiterung im Stil des Rationalismus entworfen, von den Architekten Ettore Sottsass Senior und Willy Weyhenmeyer, und 1932 eröffnet. Der langgestreckte L-förmige Terrassenbau mit Eingangsbereich, Umkleiden, Restaurant und Sonnenterassen fügt sich harmonisch in die Uferlandschaft ein und ist bis heute in seiner ursprünglichen schlichten und linearen Form weitgehend erhalten geblieben. Sanierungen, Modernisierungen in Hinblick auf Barriere-

Die historische Freibad-Anlage verfügt über fünf Schwimmbecken in unterschiedlichen Tiefen, darunter ein olympisches Becken mit einem 10 Meter-Turm und Trampolin, einen großen Pergola-bestückten Kinderbereich mit Wasserrutsche, ein Massagebecken. Wer an heißen Tagen die besten Liegeplätze auf der großen Wiese ergattern möchte, sollte sich früh in die Trieststraße begeben. Geführt wird die Freizeitanlage von der Gemeinde Bozen, die großen Wert auf familienfreundliche Eintrittspreise legt. Auch organisiert die Gemeindeverwaltung seit vielen Jahren in Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadtbibliothek einen Lido-internen Bücherverleih mit Zeitungsecke unter dem Motto „Tauch in ein Buch“.

Casteiner, selbst erfolgreiche Turmspringerin, haben ihr Talent wiederum an die Tochter Tania Cagnotto (Jahrgang 1985) weitergegeben: Weltmeisterin, zweimalige olympische Medaillengewinnerin, 20-malige Europameisterin, Italiens Sportlerin des Jahres 2014 und 2016. Die Boznerin gehört heute sogar nach ihrer Babypause wieder zur Elite. Diese Vorgeschichte ist der Grund, warum seit 1963 in Bozen jährlich der Fina Diving Grand Prix ausgetragen wird, zu dem sich die weltbesten Wasserspringer*innen treffen. www.grandprixbolzano.com.

Denn das Bad ist nach wie vor Trainingsort der erfolgreichen Bozner Wasserspringer*innen, die seit Generationen in dieser Disziplin zur Weltspitze zählen. Diese lange Sport-Tradition geht zurück auf die Springer-Schule von Karl Dibiasi, der dem Lido übrigens seinen Namen gab. Dessen Sohn Klaus hat mit Olympiasiegen 1968, 1972 und 1976 Sportgeschichte geschrieben und war später über viele Jahre italienischer Nationaltrainer. Sein ebenso erfolgreicher Mannschaftskollege und heutiger Nationaltrainer Giorgio Cagnotto und dessen Frau Carmen

Für Bade-Abwechslung ist gesorgt, denn von Bozen aus erreicht man in wenigen Minuten auch die Schwimmbäder am Hochplateau, jene von Jenesien und jene von Oberbozen und Klobenstein am Ritten.

Für alle drei gilt: Das Auto darf ruhig in der Garage bleiben, denn die Schwimmbäder liegen verkehrsgünstig, in unmittelbarer Nähe der Seilbahn-Bergstationen oder des Rittner Bahnhofs, und sie sind auch mit dem öffentlichen Busnahverkehr bequem erreichbar. Jenes von Jenesien (www.jenesien.net) hat Juni-August täglich von 9.30 bis 19 Uhr geöffnet und bietet eine schattige Liegewiese, ein großes Becken sowie ein Kinder-Becken, eine Bar mit Terrasse und, auf rund 1.050 m Seehöhe, ein tolles Panorama, das für Urlaubsfeeling sorgt. Acht Minuten dauert die Seilbahnfahrt. Die Talstation befindet sich am Talfergrün in der Nähe von Schloss Runkelstein.

Mit der Seilbahn nach oben schwingen Sie auch, wenn Sie auf den Ritten schweben, die Talstation befindet sich im Stadtzentrum in Bahnhofsnähe. Mit der modernen Gondel erreichen Sie im Nu die Ortschaft Oberbozen und von dort ebenso rasch zu Fuß das örtliche öffentliche Schwimmbad (www.ritten.eu) unterhalb der Seilbahnstation. Von Ende Mai bis Anfang Sep14

tember täglich von 9 bis 19.30 Uhr geöffnet, verfügt es über ein Kinderschwimmbecken und ein Becken mit Schwimmer- und Nichtschwimmer-Bereich, eine Terrasse, eine große Liegewiese und eine Imbiss-Bar. Und wer den Badetag mit einem Ausflug verbinden will und dafür in die nostalgische Schmalspurbahn von Oberbozen nach Klobenstein steigt, wird reich belohnt, denn das moderne Freischwimmbad von Klobenstein (www.ritten.eu) auf 1.150 m hat neben der üblichen Ausstattung ein beheiztes Schwimmbad mit 3 Meter-Sprungbrett, eine Wasserrutsche im Kinderbecken plus einen riesigen Sandkasten, einen Volleyballplatz und eine Bar mit Sonnenterrasse. Geöffnet wird im Juni, täglich von 9 bis 19 Uhr. Auch wer beim Schwimmen Chlorwasser scheut und in der heißen Jahreszeit Badeseen bevorzugt, wird in der Bozner Umgebung fündig: einmal an den Montiggler Seen südlich von Bozen in der Gemeinde Eppan und einmal am Berg auf fast 1.200 m, nämlich am Wolfsgrubner See auf dem Rittner Hochplateau.

Die Montiggler Seen, der kleine und der große, üben eine magische Anziehungskraft auf Gäste wie Einheimische aus. Vielleicht, weil sie beide von dichtem Wald umsäumt werden und in einem intakten Ökosystem liegen, das als Landschaftsschutzgebiet erklärt wurde, um so erhalten zu bleiben. Von Mai bis September verwandelt sich die Seenplatte in eine einzigartige Erholungszone, die immer wieder Gütezeichen abkassiert, für die Wasserqualität wie für die Nachhaltigkeit des touristischen Angebots.

Schweißtreibenden Temperaturen entfliehen und abtauchen kann man in Wolfsgruben gewöhnlich bis in den September hinein. Die ausgezeichnete Badequalität lockt auch Fischer ans Ufer des Bergsees. Laut Legambiente ist der Wolfsgrubnersee einer der zehn saubersten Süßwasserseen in Italien. Die durchschnittliche Wassertemperatur im Sommer beträgt zwischen 20 und 23 Grad. Seine idyllische Lage unweit von Oberbozen zwischen sanften bewaldeten Hügeln verführt zum Verweilen, aber auch zum Wandern (über den Weg Nr. 15 bis nach Oberbozen). Der See ist auch mit der Rittner Bahn erreichbar, von der Bahnhaltestelle Wolfsgruben in nur zehn Minuten Fußmarsch.

Il primo stabilimento dell'Alto Adige ad aprire le porte per la stagione balneare, ovvero già a metà maggio, è tradizionalmente il Lido di Bolzano: non solo un grande e curato parco con diverse piscine all'aperto, ma punto d'incontro dei giovani, grazie anche all'annesso campo da beach volley e da calcio, ma anche dei nuotatori e degli amanti della tintarella durante la lunga estate bolzanina. È facilmente raggiungibile dal centro e dalla periferia, situato direttamente lungo la pista ciclabile che costeggia il fiume Isarco. I bolzanini amano il loro Lido con gli ampi spazi per prendere il sole o per riposarsi all’ombra dei maestosi alberi del parco. Gli ospiti abituali fanno l’abbonamento al Lido per tutta la stagione, affittando anche cabine - spogliatoio, e si incontrano quasi tutti i giorni a bordo piscina per un aperitivo. Molti i ricordi legati alle stagioni balneari di un tempo, agli amori giovanili e ai sogni dell'infanzia, di cui chiacchierare sotto il sole, o nei 16

bar dislocati nell’impianto. Inoltre, tante offerte di svago per grandi e piccini, oltre ai corsi di fitness acquatico.

Il complesso è stato progettato nel 1929 in stile razionalista e possiede un particolare fascino architettonico (vedi foto in alto). È stato ed è la sede di allenamento dei fortunati tuffatori di Bolzano che da generazioni sono tra i migliori al mondo in questa disciplina. La più giovane è la grande Tania Cagnotto: campionessa del mondo, due volte medaglia olimpica, 20 volte campionessa europea, atleta italiana dell'anno 2014 e 2016. IL LIDO DI BOLZANO Lo storico complesso di piscine all'aperto dispone di 5 vasche di diversa profondità, tra cui una piscina olimpionica con torre di 10 metri e trampolino, un'ampia area per i bambini attrezzata con sedute all’ombra di un pergolato, un’ampia vasca per l’idromassaggio. Se si vogliono ottenere i posti migliori sul grande prato nelle giornate più afose, è consigliabile recarsi in Viale Trieste con congruo anticipo. È di proprietà del Comune di Bolzano che attribuisce grande importanza a mantenere i prezzi d'ingresso a misura di famiglia. Da molti anni l'Amministrazione comunale, in collaborazione con la biblioteca comunale, organizza anche un servizio di prestito libri interno al Lido, con un angolo dedicato a giornali e riviste, sotto il motto "Tufati in un libro".

Molte le possibilità per chi, magari in cerca di maggiore frescura, preferisce recarsi in una delle tante piscine che si trovano nei dintorni del capoluogo, più in quota rispetto alla conca bolzanina: per esempio quella di San Genesio e quelle di Soprabolzano e di Collabo, sul Renon. Per tutte e tre le mete: l'auto può stare in garage, perché le piscine sono comodamente situate vicino alle stazioni a monte della funivia o alla stazione ferroviaria, e sono facilmente raggiungibili anche con i bus di linea.

Traditionally in South Tyrol, the first swimming pool to open its doors for the season – around mid-May – is the Bolzano Lido. Not only a public outdoor swimming pool, it’s THE place to be during the long Bolzano summer for swimmers, sun worshippers and young people, who make full use of the beach volleyball court and football pitch. Situated beside the cycle path that flanks the Isarco river, the Lido is easily accessible from the city centre and the outskirts. It’s a much-loved establishment, with its spacious sunbathing areas under the leafy shade of old deciduous trees. Though it should be said: for those who can’t sit still, the Lido has a range of water-based fitness activities.

The rationalist-style Lido complex dates from 1929 and has a special architectural charm. It’s the training centre for Bolzano divers, who have been among the world's elite for generations. The youngest is Tania Cagnotto, our very own world champion, twice Olympic medallist, 20-time European champion and Italy's athlete of the year in 2014 and 2016. For those who shy away from chlorinated water when taking a dip, or those who would just prefer the fresh water of lakes, there are plenty to choose from in the Bolzano area. The Monticolo lakes in Appiano, south of Bolzano, are set within a wonderful nature reserve.

olzano has survived two dictatorships, inhuman ideologies that opposed and attracted each other: Mussolini's fascism first, then the National Socialism of Adolf Hitler following. Everything that shaped South Tyrol in the 20th century can be seen as a reaction to those terrifying times, on both the German and Italian-speaking sides. It took 86 years to "pull the fangs out of the monument", in the words of Bolzano historian Hannes Obermair, to turn the monument into a place of remembering. This was at the July 2014 inauguration of the subterranean museum exhibition in the atrium, crypt and basement of the Monument to Victory. As senior researcher at the city archives, Dr Obermair played a crucial role in the project.

A culture of remembering - a bridge to history can be found today in the heart of Bolzano, on the side of the Talvera bridge opposite to the city centre. It was from here, from the late 1920s onwards, that a recognisably Italian Bolzano began, both architecturally and urbanistically. All of this can be explored on historical city tours or on your own. The Monument to Victory, controversial from the very beginning, was designed and constructed by Marcello Piacentini, one of the leading Italian architects of his day. Today’s museum takes two narrative strands, in two adjacent exhibitions, to tell the story of the Monument to Victory, and how this is now interwoven with the history of the city and that of South Tyrol. The architectural features lend themselves ably to this new task, with the spaces below ground, originally destined for fascist pomp and ceremony, today hosting a story of reconciliation.

After visiting the exhibition, the 20-metre high monument, After visiting the exhibition, it’s worth taking another look at the front façade of the 20-metre high monument. Around one of the columns, with its stylised lictors fasces (the symbol of fascism), is an LED ring that weds the monument to democracy: this anti-fascist symbolism, together with the underground exhibitions, completely transform notions of “victory”. The same is for the hated inscription adorning the front: Hic patriae fines siste signa. Hinc ceteros excoluimus lingua legibus artibus (Here at the borderland, plant your banners! From here we taught the others with language, law and industry). This demonstrates the brute arrogance with which fascist Italy, seeing itself as culturally, politically and militarily superior, sought to impose its ideas of civilisation on the inhabitants of this “backward” periphery. It’s a difficult legacy from the totalitarian era.

The political expressiveness of the monument, and the protection given to it by the Italian state after the Second World War, further strengthened the ambivalent feelings of German-speaking Bolzano residents towards it, creating divisions and sowing hatred. For decades, the Monument to Victory was instrumentalized politically, becoming for some a symbol of nationalist identity. It has been the scene of parades and protest marches (both for and against it) and has repeatedly attracted the attention of the international media to “divided” South Tyrol. For this reason, the curators of the modern permanent exhibition decided to show not only how South Tyrol experienced the two dictatorships, but also how the Monument to Victory became a lightning rod for protest in the postwar period, until its disempowerment through historicization and conversion to a museum.

BZ '18-'45 one monument, one city, two dictatorships draws on the full extent of historical events and does so gently, asking questions such as What is victory? Who are the defeated? It makes you realize that where there are losers, there are victims.

The permanent exhibition not only presents local history, but it also raises existential questions on the development of historical consciousness in Europe, doing so through creative materials and multimedia content. This is why the museum received a special commendation at the 2016 European Museum of the Year Awards.

In November 2017, in the afterglow of this success, the equally

controversial monumental bas-relief of il Duce Mussolini on horseback, on the façade of the financial courts at Piazza Tribunale. The 36 m wide bas-relief, by South Tyrolean artist Hans Piffreider, was also historicised and disempowered using a light installation. A competition for ideas for reinterpreting this place led to huge light lettering on the relief, placing the words of Hannah Arendt's “no one has the right to obey” above the fascist motto: Credere, obbedire, combattere (believe, obey, fight). This confuses, contradicts and admonishes continuously.

Zwei Diktaturen hat Bozen überstanden, menschenverachtende Ideologien, die sich abwechselten und anzogen: den Faschismus von Mussolinis Vaterland und den Nationalsozialismus von Hitlers Mutterland. Alles was Südtirol im 20. Jahrhundert prägte war eine Reaktion auf die schrecklichen Erfahrungen der Bevölkerung auf diese beängstigende Zeit, auf deutscher genauso wie auf italienischer Seite. Es hat 86 Jahre gebraucht, um aus dem Denkmal ein Mahnmal zu machen, um “dem Denkmal den Zahn zu ziehen”, wie der Bozner Historiker Hannes Obermair meinte, anlässlich der Eröffnung des musealen Parcours im Siegesdenkmal im Juli 2014. Obermair war damals Stadtarchivar und maßgeblich an der Gestaltung der Dokumentations-Ausstellung beteiligt gewesen.

Eine Brücke zur Geschichte befindet sich heute im Herzen Bozens, an der Talferbrücke auf der Grieser Flussseite, dort wo ab den späten 1920er Jahren architektonisch und städtebaulich das italienische Bozen begann, das man heute auf historischen Stadtrundgängen oder in Eigenregie erkunden kann: Erbaut wurde das von Anfang an kontroversielle Denkmal nach Plänen des damaligen Stararchitekten Marcello Piacentini. In zwei Rundgängen wird nun die Geschichte des Siegesdenkmals mit der Geschichte der Stadt Bozen und jener des Landes Südtirol verwoben.

Über Jahrzehnte wurde das Siegesdenkmal politisch instrumentalisiert und als Identitätssymbol hochstilisiert. Es wurde Schauplatz von Paraden und Protestmärschen und hat immer wieder die Aufmerksamkeit der internationalen Medien auf das “geteilte” Südtirol gezogen. Darum hat die Kuratie der modernen Dauerausstellung beschlossen, auch zu zeigen wie das Siegesdenkmal zum Zankapfel der Nachkriegszeit wurde, bis zur späten Entpolitisierung durch Musealisierung.

Dopo aver visitato la mostra, l'arco trionfale alto 20 metri, con le sue colonne decorate con i fasci littori e l’antico simbolismo, trasmette visitatore un significato completamente diverso del concetto di vittoria, così come l'odiata iscrizione secondo la quale

BZ '18-'45: un monumento, una città, due dittature si chiede: Cos'è la vittoria? Chi sono gli sconfitti? E ci fa pensare: dove ci sono i perdenti, ci sono i colpevoli, ci sono le vittime... Domande che contribuiscono allo sviluppo di una coscienza storica in Europa. Il percorso espositivo nel Monumento alla Vittoria è stato segnalato con una menzione speciale al Concorso Museo Europeo dell'Anno nel 2016 per la sua particolare visione e per la stimolante didattica multimediale.

Un ponte verso la storia si trova oggi nel cuore di Bolzano, di fronte al ponte Talvera, al di là del centro storico, nel quartiere di Gries. Di qui, a partire dalla fine degli anni '20, ha avuto inizio l’espansione della parte italiana della città di Bolzano dal punto di vista architettonico e urbanistico che oggi può essere esplorata individualmente o partecipando a visite guidate. Punto di partenza, il controverso Monumento alla Vittoria, eretto tra il 1926 e il 1928 secondo i progetti dell'allora celebre architetto Marcello Piacentini, amico del “duce”, per celebrare la vittoria delle armi italiane nel primo conflitto mondiale sull’Austria-Ungheria. Lungo i due perimetri dell’esposizione nella cripta, la storia del Monumento alla Vittoria si intreccia con la storia della città di Bolzano e con quella della provincia dell'Alto Adige, territorio annesso all’Italia nel 1919.

Per decenni il Monumento alla Vittoria è stato politicamente strumentalizzato e fortemente stilizzato come simbolo di identità. È diventato teatro di parate e marce di protesta e ha ripetutamente attirato l'attenzione dei media internazionali sull'Alto Adige "diviso". Per questo motivo, i curatori della moderna esposizione permanente hanno deciso di mostrare come il Monumento alla Vittoria sia diventato un pomo della discordia nel dopoguerra, fino alla sua tardiva depoliticizzazione attraverso la storicizzazione.

Bolzano è sopravvissuta a due dittature, ideologie disumane che si sono alternate e attratte: il fascismo della patria di Mussolini e il nazionalsocialismo della patria di Hitler. Tutto ciò che ha plasmato l'Alto Adige nel XX secolo è stata una reazione alle terribili esperienze vissute dalla popolazione in questo periodo spaventoso, sia da parte tedesca che da parte italiana. Ci sono voluti 86 anni per trasformare il monumento celebrativo in un luogo commemorativo, per depotenziarlo contestualizzandolo storicamente, come ha spiegato lo storico bolzanino Hannes Obermair, all’epoca a capo dell’Archivio storico comunale, in occasione dell'inaugurazione del percorso espositivo nel Monumento alla Vittoria nel luglio 2014.

ono quasi un terzo del totale gli spostamenti quotidiani che le bolzanine e i bolzanini compiono in bicicletta, dato che vede il capoluogo altoatesino nettamente in testa nella classifica italiana. La rete di piste ciclabili di Bolzano ammonta a circa 50 chilometri. Otto percorsi principali dotati di segnaletica e una fitta rete di piste ciclabili secondarie consentono di viaggiare al riparo dal traffico lungo i fiumi Isarco e Talvera allacciandosi nelle periferie alla rete ciclabile provinciale, collegano varie zone residenziali e sboccano nella zona pedonale del centro storico. Tutto a Bolzano è raggiungibile su due ruote. Rastrelliere per bici, cartelli informativi e stazioni per il gonfiaggio degli pneumatici vanno a completare l’ammiratissima rete ciclabile costantemente oggetto di visite e di stupore da parte di delegazioni di addetti alla mobilità di altre città e paesi. La Città, soprattutto negli ultimi 15 anni, ha investito molto nella mobilità sostenibile e nell’incentivare l’uso della bicicletta come mezzo di trasporto adatto agli spostamenti quotidiani sia per studio e lavoro, sia per il tempo libero. L’ha fatto non solo investendo sulle infrastrutture, ma anche con molti altri progetti e iniziative, come il bike sharing, l'officina mobile nei quartieri per le riparazioni gratuite delle biciclette private, l'educazione stradale su due ruote nelle scuole, le diverse manifestazioni, dalla BimbinBici, alla Bolzano in Bici, alle campagne di sensibilizzazione, iniziative come In bici al lavoro o In bici a scuola, ai mercatini per le bici usate e molto altro ancora.

BICI BOLZANO: COL BIKE-SHARING È MEGLIO

Le due ruote sono il mezzo migliore non solo per scoprire la città, ma anche per godersi i suoi magnifici dintorni, soprattutto d’estate. Eine Reihe von Fahrrad-Routen, mit Abfahrt und Ankunft in der Hauptstadt, ermöglichen es, in faszinierende Landschaften einzutauchen - die Gegenwart der Dolomitengipfel vor der Nase oder im Rücken. Aber auch das Benutzen des Fahr-

Rekordverdächtig: Fast ein Drittel der täglichen Fahrten der Bozner*innen werden mit dem Fahrrad zurückgelegt, weshalb die Südtiroler Landeshauptstadt im italienischen Ranking klar ganz vorne liegt. Das Bozner Radwegenetz beträgt etwa 50 Kilometer - für eine 107.000 Einwohner-Stadt beachtlich. WITH CYCLING – PEDALLING FREELY IN THE URBAN AND SUBURBAN GREENERY, DISCOVERING THE MOST CHARACTERISTIC PLACES OF THE CITY AND ITS SURROUNDINGS. A record breaking one third of all daily journeys in Bolzano are made by bike, which explains why the city is top of the Italian cycle use rankings by a country mile.

Bolzano's network of cycle paths extends to about 50 kilometres in total - a considerable distance for a city of 107,000 inhabitants. The eight signposted main cycle routes and the dense network of secondary cycle paths make it possible to cycle free from motorised traffic. Often, cycle paths take you along the Isarco and Talvera rivers, connecting the suburbs with the pedestrian zone of the old town, opening almost everywhere in Bolzano for two-wheeled exploration. To help you on your way around the city there are bike stands, information signs and compressed air pumps for inflating your tyres at located various points. etzthin haben ihn die Pilgerwege in Südtirol beschäftigt, sein jüngstes Buch widmet sich den Almhütten Südtirols (siehe Kasten auf S. 37), und im Herbst erscheint eine neue erweiterte Auflage des Klassikers Bozen kompakt“: ein Stadtführer im Taschenbuch” format, das die reizvollsten Winkel seiner Heimatstadt erschließt, mit Adressen, Öffnungszeiten, Spazierbeschreibungen und InsiderHinweisen, mit überraschenden Einblicken auch für Einheimische.

Stimpfl ist der Haus- und Hof-Autor des folio-Verlags in der Reihe Südtirol erleben“. Seit wann durchstreifen Sie Südtirol mit Ihrem Lupen-Blick?

Da muss ich weit ausholen. Das hat mit meiner Kindheit zu tun. Mein Vater war ein eingefleischter Lehrer, er war naturinteressiert, liebte Botanik und Landeskunde – seine Bibliothek war mir ein unerschöpflicher Fundus. Er war auch ein Vereinsmensch, hatte ein großes ana” loges“ soziales Netzwerk, erzählte gern. Während meine älteren Geschwister wenig Begeisterung für sein Hobby, die Streifzüge in der Natur, zeigten, bin ich ihm gern gefolgt und hab vieles aufgesogen.

Irgendwie bin ich in seine Fußstapfen getreten.

Wie hat Ihr familiäres Umfeld Ihr Wissen über Land & Leute, Kunstgeschichte, Natur, Wandern und Radtouren beeinflusst?

Beide Eltern waren aus Südtirol und deutschsprachig. Während mein Vater im faschistischen Bozen der 1930er Jahre seinen Lehrerberuf nicht ausüben konnte und über Umwege nach Mailand kam, arbeitete meine Mutter damals bereits als Sekretärin in der lombardischen Großstadt. Als lediges Kind war sie am Gardasee bei Verwandten aufgewachsen, während meine Großmutter als Hebamme in Bozen tätig war. Meine Eltern lernten sich also in Mailand kennen, heirateten und kamen kurz vor Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs nach Südtirol. Allerdings wurde Bozen zu dieser Zeit von den Alliierten bombardiert, und so fanden sie in Jenesien Zuflucht und eine neue Bleibe. Erst 1949 kehrten wir als Familie definitiv nach Bozen zurück. Ich wurde 1946 in Jenesien geboren, wuchs aber in Bozen auf. Die Liebe zum Reisen, zur Geschichte und Natur, der Umgang mit der deutsch- und der italienischsprachigen Kultur, ist mir in die Wiege gelegt worden. Übrigens habe ich später in meinem Leben eine Wohnung in Jenesien bezogen. Heute lebe ich mit meiner zweiten Frau im Winter in Bozen, im Sommer in Jenesien.

Wann haben Sie das Bücherschreiben für sich entdeckt?

Als Autor bin ich ein Quereinsteiger, ein Spätberufener. Auch als Fotograf. Ich habe als junger Mensch eine kaufmännische Ausbildung genossen und Jahrzehnte lang im Vertrieb bzw. in der Personalvermittlung gearbeitet, also in der Wirtschaft. Dabei habe ich die früher noch langen Mittagspausen und die Wochenenden genutzt, um mich kundig zu machen und Südtirol Stück für Stück zu erwandern. Mitte der 1990er Jahre sind die folio-Verleger an mich herangetreten.

Sie wollten mein Wissen in Buchform haben. Die Idee hat mir gefallen, ich habe Südtirol dafür generalstabsmäßig ab gearbeitet“, und herausgekommen ist der ” Buchführer: Südtirol für Insider“ (1997). Das Buch hat ” einen Nerv getroffen: Südtirol nicht mehr mit dem Blick von außen, sondern mit dem Blick von innen zu betrachten, abseits vom Tourismus-Mainstream. Es war sofort ausverkauft, und es folgten drei gänzlich aktualisierte Neuauflagen. Dieses Grundwissen floss später in das Büchlein Südtirol in 3 Tagen“ (2018). Der Erfolg ” 36

meines Erstlingswerks war jedenfalls der Samen fürs Bücherschreiben. Dann habe ich immer wieder Anfragen großer, v.a. deutscher, Verlage erhalten, an Südtirol-Guides mitzuarbeiten, beispielsweise am Südtirol Reiseführer von Marco Polo oder an Wanderführern von Kompass. Sogar für Aldi habe ich einen Reiseführer geschrieben: Willkommen in Südtirol“ (2017). Es ” macht Spaß, mein Wissen wandernd zu erweitern und in Buchform festzuhalten.

Heißen Sie das, was Sie machen, Ruhestand? (lacht) Offiziell bin ich seit etwa fünf Jahren im Ruhestand und kann meine Zeit seitdem ganz nach meinen Vorstellungen einteilen. Ruhe im Sinne von Untätigkeit oder gar Langweile kenne ich nicht. Ich habe täglich Termine und genieße das Privileg, meine Passion ausleben zu können und ihr meine ganze Energie und Zeit zu schenken. Mein Basislager in Bozen und mein zweites am Hochplateau von Jenesien erlauben es mir, meine Entdeckungstouren ab der Haustür zu Fuß zu starten. Rucksack und Wanderschuhe stehen immer bereit.

Was bedeutet für Sie das Wort Fremdenführer“? ” Diese Bezeichnung finde ich schrecklich, doch es ist die offizielle. Unser Verein heißt so. Und die staatliche Prüfung, übrigens eine ganz ganz schwierige, befähigt zum Fremden führen und Reisen leiten“. Ich verstehe mich ” mehr als Begleiter von Neugierigen und als Gästebetreuer. Wir sind an die 18 Fremdenführer*innen, die im Raum Bozen das Verkehrsamt mit Guide-Dienstleistungen unterstützen. In Kooperation entwickeln wir jedes Jahr neue geführte Rundgänge oder Ausflüge ab Bozen. Heuer neu zum Beispiel unser Ausflugsangebot zum beliebten Sommerfrischort der Bozner*innen nach Kohlern, auf 1.250 m.

Wir werden vom Stadtzentrum starten und lassen uns von einem unserer Technik-Juwele hochfahren, der Kohlerer Seilbahn. Sie ist die älteste freischwebende Seilbahn der Welt (1908 in Betrieb genommen), heute im renovierten Gewand natürlich.

Welche Beziehung haben Sie zu Bozen?

Es ist MEINE Stadt. Sie ist super lebenswert. Je mehr ich anderswo unterwegs bin, desto stärker wird mir bewusst, wie gut wir hier unseren Alltag und unsere Freizeit gestalten können. Natürlich müssen wir noch einiges verbessern: die Verkehrssituation zum Beispiel. Unser Bus-Aussteigeplatz beispielsweise ist beim Parkplatz Bozen Mitte, sieben Gehminuten vom Waltherplatz entfernt. Und wir müssen den Gästen unbedingt mehr öffentliche Toiletten bieten. Ich bin der Ansicht, Selbstkritik führe zu Höchstleistungen …

Da quando si aggira per l’Alto Adige, con la lente di ingrandimento in mano?

Ha a che fare con la mia infanzia. Mio padre era un insegnante, amava la botanica e la geografia - la sua biblioteca era per me una risorsa inesauribile. Era anche un uomo attivo nelle associazioni, gli piaceva dialogare.

In qualche modo ho seguito le sue orme.

Quando ha scoperto la passione per la scrittura?

Sono arrivato tardi alla scrittura e anche alla fotografia. Da giovane ho scelto lo sbocco commerciale e ho 38

conoscere meglio la mia provincia e per fare escursioni in tutto l’Alto Adige, un po' alla volta. A metà degli anni Novanta sono stato contattato dagli editori del Folio: volevano riportare il mio sapere sotto forma di libro. È questa la Sua idea di pensionamento? (ride) Ufficialmente sono in pensione da circa cinque anni. Non concepisco il riposo nel senso di inattività, o addirittura di noia. Ho il privilegio di poter seguire le mie passioni. Il primo campo base a Bolzano e il secondo a San Genesio mi permettono di partire per le mie escursioni alla scoperta dell’Alto Adige direttamente dalla porta di casa. Zaino e scarponi da trekking sono sempre pronti.

Qual è il Suo impegno come guida turistica?

Mi vedo più come un compagno di avventura per gente curiosa. Faccio parte di un gruppo di 18 guide abilitate a supporto dell’Azienda di Soggiorno e Turismo che offrono visite guidate nella zona del capoluogo. Ogni anno sviluppiamo nuovi tour a o da Bolzano. Quest'anno, ad esempio, abbiamo allargato la nostra offerta escursionistica alla rinomata località estiva dei bolzanini, il Colle, a 1.250 m di altitudine. Partiremo dal centro della città e ci faremo trasportare in quota da uno dei nostri gioielli tecnologici: la funivia del Colle. È la più antica funivia del mondo (messa in funzione nel 1908), oggi, naturalmente, completamente ristrutturata.

I see myself more as a companion for the curious.

There are about 18 of us guides, who support the Bolzano Office of Tourism through guide services in the Bolzano area. Every year we develop new guided tours or excursions from Bolzano, in close cooperation with the Office of Tourism. This year, for example, we have added an excursion to the popular Bolzano summer escape to Colle, up at 1,250 m. Starting from the city centre, we take what was a technological wonder in its day: the Colle cable car. This is the oldest cable car of its type in the world (operating since 1908), although of course it has been replaced and refurbished since then!

How long have you been roaming South Tyrol with your magnifying glass?

Ever since childhood. My father was a teacher, loved botany and regional studies - his library was an inexhaustible resource for me. He was also a community man, who liked to talk. Somehow, I have followed in his footsteps.

Is what you do called retirement?

(Laughs) Officially I've been retired for about five years. I don't know of rest in the sense of inactivity or even boredom. I have the privilege of being able to pursue my passion. My bases in Bolzano and Genesio allow me to begin my tours on foot, right from my front door! My rucksack and hiking boots are always ready.

His latest book is on the alpine huts of South Tyrol, and in autumn a new extended edition of the classic Bozen kompakt will be published, full of tips and insights for locals as well as visitors. Stimpfl is the house author of the series Experience South Tyrol. He also writes a weekly hiking and excursion column for the local daily newspaper, the Alto Adige. Since 2014, he has been a state-certified tour guide and leader, member of the South Tyrolean professional tour guide association (www.reiseleiter-suedtirol.it). VERWURZELUNG UND FOLKLORE Neben dem bekannten Südtiroler Brauch der Herz-Jesu-Feuer jedes Jahr im Juni nach Fronleichnam haben Kirchtage und Prozessionen etwas an sich, das auch Nicht-Katholik*innen in ihren Bann zieht: Sie strahlen Festtagsstimmung genauso wie Würde, Urvertrauen und Heimatverbundenheit aus. Sie weisen auf Kirchenpatrone oder eine besondere Verbundenheit mit einem Heiligen, und das tun sie mit ihren bunten Trachten, dem strengen kirchlichen Zeremoniell mit liturgischen Gewändern und Fahnenbildern, den Umzügen der Musikkapellen und Schützenkompanien und den anschließenden Volks- und Wiesenfesten.

Im Raum Bozen gibt es eine Reihe von sonntäglichen Höhepunkten in der warmen Ferienzeit, besonders häuig um Maria Himmelfahrt am 15. August, Wendepunkt des Sommers, so im Bozner Dom, nach diesem Fest benannt, in Kohlern und in Oberbozen am Ritten. Aber erlebenswert ist auch die Feier am 10. Juni am Heinrichshof im Gedenken an den seligen Heinrich, Stadtpatron von Bozen, der Jenesier Kirchtag am 12.

Juli, der St. Magdalener am 19. Juli und das Patrozinium auf der Burg Hocheppan am 22. Juli. Kleinod in diesem Zusammenhang: die Domschatzkammer am Bozner Pfarrplatz (geöfnet Di-Sa 10-12.30 Uhr).

RADICI E FOLKLORE Oltre alla nota tradizione altoatesina dei fuchi del Sacro Cuore di Gesù, ogni anno, a giugno, dopo il Corpus Domini, anche altre sagre e processioni religiose hanno in sé qualcosa che afascina anche i non cattolici: trasmettono un'atmosfera di festa, di iducia e di senso di appartenenza alla comunità. Si rifanno ai patroni, o a un legame speciale con un santo, che festeggiano con i coloratissimi costumi tradizionali, le austere cerimonie ecclesiastiche, le processioni con i paramenti liturgici e gli stendardi, le silate delle bande musicali e delle compagnie degli Schützen e si concludono con le feste popolari e campestri.

Nella zona di Bolzano, ci sono diverse celebrazioni liturgiche durante il periodo estivo, soprattutto a ridosso all'Assunzione della Vergine Maria, il 15 agosto, punto di svolta dell'estate, come nel Duomo di Bolzano, che prende il nome da questa festa, sul Colle, e a Soprabolzano, sul Renon. Ma meritano una visita anche le celebrazioni del 10 giugno all'Heinrichshof, in memoria di Beato Arrigo, patrono di Bolzano, della Sagra di S. Genesio, il 12 luglio, di quella di Santa Maddalena, il 19 luglio, e della Festa del Patrocinio a Castel Hocheppan (Castel d’Appiano), il 22 luglio. Sempre in tema, imperdibile una visita al Tesoro del Duomo, in Piazza della Parrocchia di Bolzano (aperto da martedì a sabato 10-12.30).

ROOTS AND FOLK CULTURE Together with the annual South Tyrolean tradition of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ires in June, after Corpus Christi, our Church Days and processions have a festive atmosphere that appeals to even the most unreligious! The festive atmosphere of these events are displays of local pride, community and belonging to the homeland, illustrating the close bonds with the church or celebrating the local patron saint. This can be readily seen in the colourful traditional costumes, the choreographed ecclesiastical ceremonies, with lowing liturgical robes and shouldered icons, the parades of with music bands and Schützen rile companies, not forgetting the folk and meadow festivals that follow.

In and around Bolzano, there are a number of Sunday highlights during the summer holiday season, especially around the Assumption of the Virgin, 15th August. These include the festivals at Bolzano Cathedral, at Colle and Bolzano di Sopra, Renon. Before the Assumption, there are others not to be missed: on 10th June at the Heinrichshof, in memory of Blessed Henry, patron saint of Bolzano; the San Gennesio Church Day, 12th July; St. Magdalener on 19th July; and the Patron Saint Day at Castle Hocheppan (Appiano) on 22nd July. Another little gem not to be overlooked is the Cathedral Treasury in Bolzano's Parish Square (open Tues-Sat 10-12.30).

i fa presto a dire birra: quando si parla genericamente di birra, ci si riferisce in realtà a una moltitudine di prodotti molto diversi fra loro, gli stili della birra sono innumerevoli, dipendono dalla combinazione degli ingredienti, dalle tecniche di produzione dal mastro birraio che determina la raffinata interazione tra acqua, malto, luppolo e lievito, e dalla regione di produzione.

Innanzitutto, va distinto tra birra artigianale e birra industriale. La prima viene prodotta in strutture come i microbirrifici indipendenti in cui la produzione non supera i 200.000 hl/annui e si distingue dalla birra industriale principalmente per il fatto di non essere pastorizzata.

La birra artigianale in Alto Adige La produzione di birra in Alto Adige ha una tradizione molto antica, nata addirittura più di mille anni fa. Nel ‘800 divenne in provincia una bevanda molto popolare ed è ancora oggi particolarmente apprezzata. La birra con Marchio di Qualità Alto Adige nasce da ingredienti naturali. Malto e cereali provengono dall’Alto Adige e vengono lavorati ancora oggi in modo artigianale. Sul suo gusto influisce molto l’acqua che viene presa direttamente dalle fonti montane altoatesine.

Nel 1800, in Alto Adige, orzo e luppolo venivano prodotti soprattutto in Val Pusteria.

All’epoca in quell’area c’erano 11 birrerie. Nel 1900 la produzione della birra fu influenzata da progressi tecnologici, come l’introduzione del frigorifero, e la cultura della birra in Alto Adige prosperò, grazie anche alla costruzione della ferrovia del Brennero nel 1862 e al conseguente boom turistico. All’epoca c’erano più di 40 birrerie. La Prima Guerra Mondiale, però, tagliò i rifornimenti ai birrai a sud del Brennero e la maggior parte delle aziende dovette chiudere. Dopo la guerra, per tanti anni la birra è stata prodotta solo da pochi birrifici industriali, solo dopo il 2000 pian piano, la tradizione di produrre birra artigianalmente fu riportata in auge e da allora vive una costante crescita.

Quali caratteristiche deve avere una birra artigianale?

Secondo un decreto del 2006, la birra deve essere prodotta da piccoli birrifici indipendenti (con una produzione inferiore a 200.000 hl) e non deve sottoposta a pastorizzazione e microfiltrazione. Personalmente definisco una birra artigianale una birra prodotta manualmente, in modo tradizionale, con ingredienti "naturali". Non tutte le birre artigianali sono uguali: una birra buona per me deve essere pulita, senza difetti e caratterizzare lo stile.

A proposito di stile, quanti birre artigianali esistono e che differenze presentano?

Esiste una grandissima varietà - circa 120 – di stili di birra. Ci sono delle linee guida che definiscono cosa caratterizza ciascuno stile, se una birra è a bassa o ad alta fermentazione, quanti gradi alcolici deve avere, quale il range del colore e della amarezza ecc. Queste classificazioni servono per avere un punto di riferimento nei concorsi, per i consumatori e per i birrai. Con il movimento del Craft beer si sono ulteriormente ampliati gli stili di birra e la varietà che viene offerta si sta sempre più allargando. Non ci sono più solo le classiche birre chiare, la Weissbier e una birra scura, ma 48

ci sono anche vari tipi di birre luppolate come le Pale Ale, la India Pale Ale o la Porter – della tradizione inglese.

Esiste una tipica birra artigianale altoatesina?

I giovani birrifici artigianali di oggi hanno in parte ripreso le antiche ricette regionali e le stanno proponendo ora nei loro locali e sul mercato. I produttori si sono riuniti nell’associazione dei Birrifici Sudtirolesi e ognuno di loro produce almeno una birra con il marchio Qualità Alto Adige che garantisce l’utilizzo di orzo altoatesino.

Cosa fa un sommelier della birra? Come si diventa sommelier?

Un sommelier della birra è un ambasciatore della birra, riesce a trasmettere al pubblico l’esperienza sensoriale del gustare una birra artigianale. Deve saper riconoscere la qualità di una birra, descriverla secondo le sue caratteristiche e saperla abbinare a cibi e pasti. Per diventare Diplom-Biersommelier - il titolo riconosciuto in tutto il mondo che autorizza a partecipare a campionati nazionali e al campionato mondiale – è necessario partecipare a un corso promosso dalla nota Accademia del gusto di Monaco DOEMENS, o da un’organizzazione a questa affiliata. In Alto Adige l'Accademia del Vino di Caldaro offre un corso base di Bier-Expert che dà poi accesso all’Accademia Doemens per diventare Diplom-Biersommelier.

Birra e food: quali sono gli abbinamenti più trendy?

La birra si sposa con tantissimi piatti. La grande varietà di birre esistente consente grande versatilità nell’utilizzo e nell’abbinamento. L'abbinamento con dolci lo trovo una sfida interessantissima, spesso offriamo degustazione di birra e cioccolato, molto amato anche l’abbinamento birra e formaggio.

BIRRA PER TUTTI I GUSTI: chiara e delicata, più scura e amara o con note speziate. In Alto Adige esiste un’ampia varietà di birre, ecco le più rinomate.

HELLES Sotto l’inluenza della Baviera, la birra “Helles” è diventata sempre più apprezzata in Alto Adige, a partire dal 1900. Viene prodotta a bassa fermentazione ha un colore giallo paglierino. Il contenuto alcolico è al di sotto del 5 Vol.%. Gli aromi del malto e del luppolo sono equilibrati, è una birra morbida e armoniosa.

WIENER LAGER

WEIZEN La Weizen o Weissbier prende il suo nome dall’utilizzo di una parte di malto di frumento che viene usato per la produzione. È una birra ad alta fermentazione. Il colore varia da un giallo dorato all’ambrato ed è una birra di solito torbida. Aromi tipici sono sentori di banana e di chiodi di garofano che derivano dal lievito usato per l’alta fermentazione. È una birra frizzante e spumeggiante. Il grado alcolico si aggira sui 5 Vol %.

BOCK Originaria del sud della Germania, questa birra si difuse rapidamente in Alto Adige, sull’onda della cultura della birra tedesca. La Bock può essere sia a bassa che ad alta fermentazione, è corposa e il colore può anche variare da un chiaro giallo a un colore nero brillante. Marcata, dagli aromi di malto, con un corpo accentuato e un contenuto alcolico superiore al 6 Vol.%. Sono disponibili anche come “Weizen Bock”, prodotte con frumento, o come “Doppelbock”, con un grado alcolico minimo di 7,5 vol %.

La produzione di birre speziate risale addirittura al Medioevo, quando ancora veniva usato una grande varietà di spezie per insaporire le birre, prima di venire a conoscenza delle buone caratteristiche del luppolo. Una volta la birra veniva preparata dalle casalinghe con i cereali disponibili, come segale, orzo, avena, farro o con l’aggiunta di ingredienti come ER rosmarino, ginepro, sale e luppolo selvatico. Oggi esiste una grande MM O varietà di birre speziate.

Birra e dieta: fa bene o fa male, fa ingrassare o no? Cosa dice l’esperta?

Come tutte le bevande alcoliche, anche la birra deve essere goduta con consapevolezza e moderazione. La birra è una bevanda isotonica, con grandi pregi per la notevole varietà di proteine e vitamine che contiene. La birra di per sé non fa ingrassare, ma può stimolare l'appetito è questo potrebbe avere conseguenze sulla linea.

In conclusione, in estate concediamoci senza troppi sensi di colpa, di tanto in tanto una bella birra rinfrescante, meglio se artigianale, di qualità e, naturalmente, con moderazione. (aa)

DUNKLES La Dunkles anch’essa di tradizione bavarese, si presenta con un marrone intenso, dato dal malto tostato a temperatura elevata che inluisce sia il colore che i tipici aromi di note di caramello, cioccolato e cafè. Ha un corpo pieno e delle piacevoli note amare del luppolo. Il grado alcolico si aggira sui 5 Vol. %.

A che temperatura va bevuta la birra?

Schiuma sì o no?

Non tutte le birre vengono bevute alla stessa temperatura, dipende se ho una birra chiara o una birra invecchiata per anni in botti di legno: sono proprio due tipologie diverse, ciascuna vuole la sua temperatura.

Una birra classica chiara o scura alla spina di solito ha circa 6 gradi, una birra invecchiata va servita ad una temperatura simile al vino, a 16 -18 gradi. La schiuma è legata alla cultura e al territorio dove viene offerta.

Da noi una birra senza schiuma non viene vista di buon occhio: le birre artigianali locali vengono servite in caso ottimale con una bella cappa di schiuma.

Questa birra, sviluppata dal pioniere austriaco Anton Dreher nei primi anni del 1800, si difuse ampiamente anche in Alto Adige e venne prodotta su scala industriale dopo l’invenzione del frigorifero. È prodotta a bassa fermentazione, ha un colore ambrato, l’aroma è caratterizzato da note di malto e note erbacee del luppolo. Il contenuto alcolico è al di sotto del 5 Vol.%.

KÖNIGIN DES SOMMERS (IM ITALIENISCHEN IST DAS BIER EINE SIE) UNTER DEN GETRÄNKEN IST DAS BIER – FRISCH, DURSTSTILLEND, MIT SONNIG-KLARER FARBNOTE UND MIT SCHAUMKRONE. Die Herstellung von Bier hat in Südtirol eine sehr lange Tradition und ist vermutlich mindestens 1.000 Jahre alt.

Das Bier mit Qualitätszeichen Südtirol wird aus natürlichen Zutaten hergestellt: Malz und Getreide kommen aus Südtirol und werden auch heute noch von Hand verarbeitet. Sein Geschmack wird stark durch das Wasser beeinflusst, das aus den heimischen Bergquellen kommt.

Um 1800 wurden in Südtirol hauptsächlich Gerste und Hopfen im Pustertal produziert. Zu dieser Zeit gab es in der Gegend elf Brauereien. Um die Jahrhundertwende kam der Wandel: Die Bierherstellung wurde durch technische Fortschritte wie die Einführung des Kühlschranks geprägt, und die Bierkultur in Südtirol florierte, auch dank der Brenner-Eisenbahn ab 1862 und dank des boomenden Tourismus. Zu dieser Zeit gab es mehr als 40 Brauereien. Im Ersten Weltkrieg wurden die Lieferungen an die Brauereien südlich des Brennerpasses jedoch eingestellt, und die meisten Betriebe mussten schließen. Nach den Kriegen wurde Bier nur mehr von einigen wenigen Industriebrauereien hergestellt. Das änderte sich nach dem Jahr 2000 schlagartig, als die Tradition der Wirtshausbrauereien und des handwerklich gebrauten Biers wiederbelebt wurde.

Welche Eigenschaften muss ein handwerklich gebrautes Bier haben?

Nach einem Erlass von 2006 muss das Bier von kleinen unabhängigen Brauereien (mit einer Produktion von weniger als 200.000 Hektolitern) hergestellt werden und darf weder pasteurisiert noch gefiltert werden.

Bei welcher Temperatur sollte Bier getrunken werden?

Und Schaum ja oder nein?

Je nach Bier gibt es Temperaturempfehlungen. Es hängt davon ab, ob ich ein helles Bier oder ein jahrelang in Holzfässern gereiftes Bier vor mir habe. Ein klassisches helles oder dunkles Schankbier sollte in der Regel etwa bei 6 Grad getrunken werden, ein gereiftes Bier sollte bei einer weinähnlichen Temperatur, also mit 16-18 Grad serviert werden. Ob Schaum ja oder nein, hängt von der Gegend und Bierkultur ab.

Bei uns wird ein Bier ganz ohne Schaum nicht gern gesehen: Lokale handwerklich gebraute Biere werden am besten mit einer schönen Schaumkrone serviert.

Macht Bier nun dick oder nicht?

Wie alle alkoholischen Getränke sollte auch Bier nur in Maßen genossen werden. Bier ist ein isotonisches Getränk, das aufgrund der enthaltenen Proteine und Vitamine wertvoll ist. An und für sich macht Bier nicht dick, aber es regt den Appetit an, und das könnte Folgen für die Linie haben.

Wie viele solcher Biere gibt es, und wo liegen die Unterschiede?

Es gibt eine große Vielfalt - etwa 120 - von Biersorten.

Richtlinien definieren, was jeden Stil charakterisiert, ob ein Bier niedrig oder hoch vergoren ist, wie viel Alkoholgehalt es haben sollte, welche Bandbreite an Farbe, Bitterkeit, Aromen es hat usw. Diese Klassifizierungen dienen als Bezugswerte im Wettbewerb, aber auch für die Verbraucher*innen. Mit der Bewegung des CraftBiers wurde die Vielfalt noch größer. Es gibt nicht mehr nur die klassischen hellen Biere, Weißbier und ein dunkles Bier, sondern auch verschiedene Arten von gehopften Bieren wie Pale Ale, Indian Pale Ale oder Porter nach englischer Tradition.

The tradition of beer making in South Tyrol goes back over a thousand years. The malt and cereals are grown in South Tyrol, then processed using traditional methods.

The taste of our beers is greatly influenced by the water, drawn straight from Alpine springs. If that weren’t enough, beers that bear the South Tyrolean Seal of Quality are made from only natural ingredients.

In 1800, South Tyrol’s barley and hops were grown mainly in the Pusteria Valley, to service the eleven breweries in the area. By 1900, advances in modernity had made themselves felt in beer production. Novelties such as the refrigerator, or the boom in tourism brought by the Brenner railway, in 1862, all helped South Tyrolean beer culture to flourish: around that time, the number of breweries had grown to forty. However, the advent of the First World War saw supplies cut to the breweries south of the Brenner Pass, forcing most to close.

After the war and until the end of the last century, beer was only produced by a few large-scale breweries. From around 2000, the situation began to change, with the tradition of brewing craft beer being brought back into vogue. It has been growing ever since.

So how many craft beers exist and what are the differences?

There is a great variety of beer styles, about 120. There are guidelines for each style, whether a beer is low or high fermentation, how strong it should be, the range of colour and bitterness, and so on. With the craft beer movement, the variety on offer is growing constantly.

There are no longer only classic light beers, Weissbier and dark beer, but there are also various types of hopped beers from the English tradition, such as Pale Ale, India Pale Ale or Porter.

Beer and diet: is it good or bad, is it fattening or not? What does the expert say?

As with all alcoholic beverages, beer should be enjoyed in moderation. Beer is actually an isotonic drink, containing a remarkable variety of proteins and vitamins. Also, beer itself is not fattening, but it can stimulate the appetite and this could have consequences on your figure!

Is there a typical South Tyrolean craft beer?

Today's young craft breweries have partly taken up the old regional recipes and are now offering them in their premises and on the market. Brewers have joined together to form the South Tyrolean Brewery Association, with each member producing at least one beer with the South Tyrolean Seal of Quality label, which guarantees the use of South Tyrolean barley.

What temperature should the beer be drunk at?

Foam yes or no?

Not all beers should be drunk at the same temperature. A classic light or dark draught beer is usually best at about 6 degrees. er heute den Ritten erreichen will, hat’s leicht, bequem und aussichtsreich. Alle vier Minuten fährt eine Gondel von der Talstation im Stadtzentrum in nur 12 Fahrminuten hinauf nach Oberbozen auf 1.200 m. Von dort wiederum startet die Rittner Bahn, eine heute elektrisch betriebene Schmalspurbahn im Halbstundentakt, und verbindet Oberbozen mit Maria Himmelfahrt und Klobenstein. Alternativ erreicht man den Ritten auch mit einem Linienbus des Öffentlichen Nahverkehrs oder mit dem Auto: Eine serpentinenreiche Straße fährt vom Bozner Stadtteil Rentsch in ca. 30 Minuten hinauf nach Oberbozen und weiter. Das war nicht immer so, obwohl das SonnenPlateau bereits früh als touristischer Hotspot galt.

Doch eigentlich begann alles viel früher. Um das Jahr 1200 entstanden südlich der Alpen zahlreiche Hospize, eines auch in Lengmoos mit der Niederlassung des Deutschen Ordens in der heutigen Kommende, die so zu einem Zentrum für die Versorgung der durchziehenden Pilger wurde. Tourismus in seiner frühesten Form, dem Reisen um des Reisens Willen, konnten sich nur Adelige leisten. Und so zogen die mittelalterlichen Kaiser auf ihrem Weg nach Süden, meist nach Rom zur Krönung, über den Brennerpass ins Eisacktal. Und weil die Eisackschlucht zwischen Kollmann und Bozen unpassierbar war, führte ein Umgehungsweg schon zur Römerzeit über den Ritten. Damals nächtigten Kaiser und ihre Gefolge in der Kommende Lengmoos, heute ein wichtiger kultureller Schauplatz am Ritten (Veran-

Und was hat es mit der Sommerfrische auf sich?

Der Volksmund will die Bezeichnung Sommer” frische“ als Erfindung der Rittner sehen. Mitte des 17. Jahrhundert, als Bozen durch das Privileg des Merkantilmagistrats endgültig zur Handelsstadt gekürt worden war, durch die Landesfürstin Claudia de’ Medici 1635, blühte die Wirtschaft ordentlich auf. Die reichen Bozner*innen, Kaufleute mehr noch als Adelsfamilien, versuchten der Sommerhitze im Talkessel zu entfliehen und begannen, am Ritten aufgelassene Höfe in exklusive Residenzen umzubauen bzw. dort neue Villen zu errichten. Diese herrischen Leut“, wie sie am Ritten ironisch ge” nannt wurden, brachten mit ihrem Wunsch nach Kühlung vermehrt die Nachfrage nach Pensionen, Gaststätten und Hotels und damit auch Gäste von auswärts. Bis dann der Fremdenverkehr im 19. Jahrhundert mit dem Alpinismus-Boom zur Mode wurde, die vor allem Briten aufs Hochplateau lockte. Sie waren die ersten, deren Lust, Berge zu bezwingen und darüber zu berichten, einen ganzen Tourismuszweig zum Erblühen brachte, was wiederum Werbung für den Ritten brachte.

Jahrhunderts der Bozner Kaufmann Heinrich Kunter einen Saumweg durch die wilde Eisackschlucht im Tal anlegen ließ, wurde diese Route zur Konkurrenz für den beschwerlicheren Weg über den Ritten. Der Verkehr verlagerte sich in die Talebene. Immer wieder war der Antrieb für die Entwicklung des Tourismus die Erschließung für den Verkehr. Auch zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts plante die k.u.k. Regierung, das Dorf Oberinn wegen seines günstigen Klimas und der sonnigen Lage zu einem Luftkurort mit Rehabilitationszentren für Lungenkranke zu machen. Die 1907 eingeweihte Rittnerbahn sollte das Ganze ermöglichen. Doch der Erste Weltkrieg machte diesem fortschrittlichen Ansinnen einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Erst in der Zwischenkriegszeit zog das faschistische Regime diese Pläne wieder hervor und kurbelte mit der Etikettierung Kurort“ den Fremdenverkehr an. Die ” Sommerfrisch-Saison wurde ergänzt durch die Wintersaison – die Ertüchtigung im Schnee mit der Hochkonjunktur von Sportvereinen und Wettkämpfen.

Hinter Namen stecken Ideen: Der ursprüngliche Verschönerungsverein der Anfänge wurde zur Kurverwaltung in den 1920er Jahren, nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg mit der Erschließung durch moderne Mobilität zum Verkehrsamt und schließlich, 1994, zum heutigen Tourismusverein Ritten. Der führt heute zwei Büros mit insgesamt neun Mitarbeiter*innen (siehe Foto). Tutto iniziò nel 1895, con il "Verschönerungsverein" (società di abbellimento) di Collalbo. Praticamente già da 125 anni esiste qui qualcosa di simile a un'associazione turistica. Ma in realtà tutto era iniziato ancora molto prima. Già nel XIII secolo furono costruiti ospizi, uno anche nell'odierna Commenda di Longomoso, come centro per l’approvvigionamento dei pellegrini di passaggio verso Roma. Il turismo nella sua forma più antica, il viaggio per il puro piacere di viaggiare, era appannaggio solo dei nobili. E così, nei loro viaggi verso sud, gli imperatori medievali attraversavano il Brennero verso la valle

Ci sono idee dietro i nomi: l'originale "Verschönerungsverein", la società di abbellimento del Renon, nei primi anni Venti divenne la "Azienda di Soggiorno e di Cura" della stazione climatica; dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, con lo sviluppo della mobilità moderna, si chiamò "Verkehrsamt" (Ufficio turistico) e infine, nel 1994, divenne l’attuale Associazione Turistica Renon. Oggi gestisce due uffici con un totale di nove dipendenti (vedi foto a p. 62). Tra questi, vi sono due collaboratori attivi sul campo, responsabili della manutenzione dei 300 km di sentieri escursionistici.

Oggi, raggiungere il Renon è semplice, comodo e ricco di spunti panoramici. Ogni quattro minuti una cabinovia parte dal centro della città e raggiunge Soprabolzano, a 1.200 m, in soli 12 minuti. Da lì parte la Ferrovia del Renon, oggi una ferrovia a scartamento ridotto, che collega Soprabolzano con L’Assunta e Collabo. In alternativa si può raggiungere il Renon anche con i bus di linea, o in auto: una strada a tornanti conduce in circa 30 minuti dal quartiere bolzanino di Rencio fino a Soprabolzano, per poi proseguire verso le altre località.

Ma non è stato sempre così, anche se il soleggiato altopiano è sempre stata un’ambita meta turistica anche in passato.

Ma il vero boom partì dall’idea di villeggiatura estiva per i bolzanini stessi: A metà del XVII secolo, quando nel 1635 a Bolzano fu dichiarata città dedita al commercio e alle fiere dalla Contessa Claudia de' Medici, l'economia fiorì. Le donne benestanti di Bolzano, i ricchi mercanti e le nobili famiglie cercarono di sfuggire alla calura estiva della conca bolzanina e cominciarono a convertire i masi abbandonati sul Renon in residenze esclusive. Questi signori portavano con sé una crescente domanda di ristoranti e alberghi. Solo dopo il turismo sul Renon è diventato di moda, nel XIX secolo, soprattutto con l’avvento dell'alpinismo che ha attirato principalmente molti inglesi sull'altopiano. Furono loro i primi, col loro desiderio di conquistare e di raccontare la montagna, a far fiorire un nuovo filone del turismo.

Around 1200, hospices were built to host the passing pilgrims, including the Kommende in Longomoso, still in service today. Tourism in its earliest form, travel for travel's sake, could only be afforded by nobility. This meant that on their way south over the Brenner Pass into the Isarco valley, the medieval emperors would stop at Renon. The reason was that since Roman times, the Isarco gorge had been impassable, resulting in an inevitable detour via Renon.

When a mule track through the wild Isarco gorge was navigated, at the beginning of the 14th century, Renon’s visitor traffic decreased.

RENON PLATEAU: WHAT TOURISM HAS MADE OF RENON AND HOW THE VILLAGES ON THE RIDGE HAVE TURNED OUT. Getting to Renon today couldn’t be easier, more comfortable or with better views. Every four minutes a cable car leaves the city centre and takes you up to Bolzano di Sopra, at 1,200 m, in only 12 minutes. From there the train: today an electrically operated narrow-gauge railway that connects Bolzano di Sopra with Maria Assunta and Collalbo. Alternatively, you can also reach Renon by bus or by car. The road snakes safely up the mountainside from the Bolzano district of Rencio, up to Bolzano di Sopra and on, in about 30 minutes. Even though it was not always this easy getting to Renon, the sun-drenched plateau has been a destination since the early days of tourism.

It all began in 1895, with an improvement society in Collalbo, meaning it’s had a tourism association for around 125 years.

However, Renon has been welcoming guests for far longer.

By the middle of the 17th century the city economy was flourishing, aided by Princess Claudia de' Medici’s declaring Bolzano a trading city, in 1635. Wealthy Bolzano citizens, merchants and nobles began to convert abandoned farms at Renon into exclusive residences, in an effort to escape the debilitating summer heat in the valley basin. This "lordly folk", as they were sarcastically referred to, brought with them an increased demand for restaurants and hotels.

But tourism really began to become fashionable in the 19th century, with the boom in alpinism that attracted mainly the British to the high plateau. Their desire to conquer Alps and recount their exploits created an entirely new branch of tourism, which is still flourishing today.

Changes in name can tell a story on their own: The original Renon Verschönerungsverein (improvement society), from 1895, became the Kurverwaltung (spa administration) in the 1920s, for the climatic health resort that had opened. After the Second World War, with the development of modern mobility, the office became the Verkehrsamt (traffic office). Finally, in 1994, it became today's Renon Tourism Association. Today there are two offices, with a dedicated total staff of nine (see photo, page 62).

These include two field staff members, who are responsible for the maintenance of the 300 km of hiking trails.

n territorio in cui si alternano bosco, frutteti e soprattutto vigneti, ricco di passeggiate e sentieri davvero imperdibili d’estate. Un affascinante modo per scoprire Appiano e suoi dintorni è quello di seguire gli itinerari che portano ai castelli più belli e meglio conservati. Per esempio lungo il sentiero dei castelli di Appiano, una bellissima escursione a portata di tutti che regala degli scorci spettacolari sull’intera Val d’Adige, l’Oltradige e la conca di Bolzano e che, partendo da Castel Corba, sopra Missiano, conduce a Castel d’Appiano, il più importante maniero della regione, situato sopra uno sperone roccioso da cui si gode una splendida vista. Il castello, costruito dal conte di Appiano Ulrich II tra il 1125 e il 1130, fu all’epoca uno dei più potenti della provincia. Nel 1158 è stato distrutto, ma ricostruito poco dopo. Nel 1315 passò ai Conti del Tirolo e da allora cambiò spesso di proprietà. Dal 1911 fino al 2016, Castel Appiano appartenne ai Conti di Enzenberg, oggi è nella disponibilità del Comune di Appiano. Oltre a respirare la storia e i racconti di queste antiche mura cavalleresche, la visita a Castel d’Appiano può essere incoronata con una piacevole sosta alla taverna dove gustare specialità locali.

Burg Boymont/Castel Boymont

Proseguendo lungo il sentiero dei castelli si raggiunge senza troppe difficoltà, seguendo le indicazioni, Castel Boymont, dopo aver superato una profonda gola. Costruito nel 1230 dai Conti d’Appiano, il castello venne concesso in feudo ai Signori di Boymont (ministeriale dei conti). Quasi due secoli più tardi il castello divenne la residenza di Ulrich Kässler, un segretario di Federico IV d’Asburgo detto “Tascavuota”. Kässler sposò nel 1413 la ricca ereditiera Barbara di Boymont. Poco dopo, un incendio distrusse grandi parti di Castel Boymont che da allora cadde in rovina, fino alla ristrutturazione nel 1977 da parte dell’attuale proprietario, Fritz Dellago. Anche tra le mura di Castel Boymont è possibile ristorarsi in una caratteristica taverna.

Eretto attorno al 1300, il primo nucleo risale all’epoca romanica ed è costituito da una torre abitabile, ampliata verso la metà del XV secolo, trasformando il complesso in una residenza di caccia d’impronta schiettamente gotica. Degni di attenzione sono soprattutto gli affreschi dei locali che formano un esempio unico di pittura murale profana gotica e danno un’idea della vita e della filosofia dell’epoca: viticci, melagrane e un unicorno nell’appartamento della padrona del castello; il cosiddetto “mondo alla rovescia” con la guerra dei gatti e dei topi, un albero fallico, giocolieri, giullari nel salone di ricevimento; scene di caccia o rappresentazioni farsesche per i partecipanti, per lo più maschi, a una battuta di caccia.

Castel Firmiano e Castel Roncolo Due perle architettoniche, due tra i castelli più belli dell’Alto Adige, si ergono a sentinelle del capoluogo altoatesino, una a nord, all’imbocco della Val Sarnetino, e una a sud, dove la conca si apre in direzione dell’Oltradige e della Bassa Atesina. È qui che, su uno sperone roccioso di porfido, troneggia Castel Firmiano, uno dei più ampi e antichi castelli dell'Alto Adige che, grazie alla sua invidiabile posizione, è visibile già da lontano in tutto il suo splendore. La sua storia si perde nella notte dei tempi, già nel 945 Castel Firmiano viene nominato per la prima volta con l'appellativo di "Formicaria". Per i regnanti della zona, la posizione di Castel Firmiano è sempre stata strategica, in quanto permetteva il controllo dell’accesso da sud verso Bolzano e dell’intera navigazione sull'Adige e sull'Isarco. Firmiano, batte il cuore creativo del circuito museale Messner Mountain Museum. Il percorso espositivo si snoda tra torri, sale, cortili e racconta lo stretto rapporto che unisce l’uomo alla montagna. Opere, quadri, cimeli, reperti naturali sono stati raccolti da Reinhold Messner durante i suoi tanti viaggi in giro per il mondo.

Castel Roncolo, invece, conosciuto anche come il Maniero Illustrato, si erge a nord del capoluogo, facilmente raggiungibile dalla città con una passeggiata che costeggia il torrente Talvera, oppure da piazza Walther, grazie a un servizio shuttle gratuito. Il castello fu costruito nel 1237 dalla famiglia von Wangen. Più di un secolo dopo, i fratelli Niklaus e Franz Vintler, appartenenti a una ricca famiglia di commercianti bolzanini, acquistarono Castel Roncolo e lo fecero affrescare con soggetti di carattere profano di grande pregio storico e artistico. Gli affreschi di Castel Roncolo, nella loro totalità, ci presentano una testimonianza unica e preziosa del passato mondo cortese, dell’abbigliamento della nobiltà, del mondo del torneo e sono nello stesso tempo una galleria dipinta di inestimabile valore. RAUBEND DER AUSBLICK. UND ZWAR AUF DAS BURGEN-GEBIET SÜDLICH VON BOZEN UND IN EPPAN, WO SCHLÖSSER UND RUINEN EUROPAWEIT AM ENGSTEN BEIEINANDER STEHEN. Mehr als 200 Burgen, Ruinen und Ansitze ... Eine Gegend, in der sich Wälder, Obstwiesen und Weinberge abwechseln, Wanderwege kreuz und quer zu Spaziergängen im Sonnenlicht verführen. Nach diesem bizzarren Frühling eine Wohltat. Eine faszinierende Art und Weise, das Dorf Eppan und seine Umgebung zu entdecken, besteht darin, den Routen zu folgen, die zu den schönsten Schlössern führen: dem Burgendreieck am Fuß des Gantkofels. Der Eppaner Burgenweg bietet die Gelegenheit zu einem wunderschönen rund zweistündigen Ausflug mit spektakulärem Panorama auf das gesamte Etschtal, das Überetsch und den Bozner Talkessel.

Am besten startet man in der Nähe von Schloss Korb oberhalb von Missian und wandert zur Burg Hocheppan, weithin sichtbar auf einem Felssporn. Hier angelangt ist die Aussicht phänomenal. Die Burg, zwischen 1125 und 1130 vom Eppaner Grafen Ulrich II. erbaut, war damals eine der mächtigsten adeligen Schauplätze der Gegend. Heute steht das Schloss und sein Gelände der Gemeinde Eppan zur Verfügung. Wer für Geschichte und Geschichten empfänglich ist, wird hier fündig: Die alten Gemäuer atmen Erlebtes aus – Schauriges und Fröhliches - und ziehen Jung und Alt in ihren Bann. Ein Besuch der Burg Hocheppan kann mit einer angenehmen Pause in der Burgschenke gekrönt werden. Hungrige Wanderer, Mittelalterfans und Kunstliebhaber kommen darin auf ihre Kosten. Kunsthistorische Führungen und romanische Burgkapelle inklusive.

Die Drei-Burgen-Wanderung führt Sie dann ohne allzu große Anstrengung weiter zur Burg Boymont, durch das Hocheppanertal und über eine etwa 60 Meter lange, gesicherte Stiege. Eine Zeitreise ins Hochmittelalter: Sogar innerhalb dieser halb zerstörten Mauern finden Sie eine gut ausgestattete Burgschenke. Ein weiteres Muss in dieser Gegend ist der Besuch von Schloss Moos-Schulthaus, das mit seinem schmucken Museum über dem Dorfzentrum von St. Michael/ 70

Burg Hocheppan/Castello d'Appiano

Eppan liegt, dort wo Anwesen aus Mittelalter und Renaissance dicht an dicht stehen: darunter Schloss Englar und das wuchtige Schloss Gandegg. Zurück zu Schloss Moos-Schulthaus, dessen Fresken besonders bemerkenswert sind und ein einzigartiges Beispiel profaner gotischer Wandmalerei darstellen. Two of the most beautiful castles in South Tyrol stand sentry near the South Tyrolean capital. Castel Roncolo, at the entrance to Val Sarnetino to the north, is known as the Illustrated Manor House and has a museum.

Standing guard to the south is Castel Firmiano, where the basin opens up in the direction of the Oltradige and the Bassa Atesina, to arrive later in the area of Appiano. Castel Firmiano is also the creative heart of Reinhold Messner's Messner Mountain Museum circuit.

Continuing along the castle trail takes you to Boymont Castle without too much difficulty, simply following the signs. Also here, within the castle walls, you’ll find refreshment in a characteristic tavern.

Another to visit in this area is Moos-Schulthaus Castle and museum, which stands above the centre of

the village of San Michele/Appiano, where you’ll also find important residences of the past, including Englar and Ganda Castles. The frescoes in the rooms of Moos-Schulthaus Castle are particularly noteworthy, representing a unique example of secular Gothic mural painting. They give a tantalising insight into the life and philosophy of the time: in the castle owner's apartment there are tendrils, pomegranates and a unicorn; the reception hall gives us the so-called "upside-down world" with the war of cats and mice, a phallic tree, jugglers, jesters. There are also hunting and comedic scenes.

There are over 200 castles here, from ruins to noble residences, with walks and paths criss-crossing the woodlands, orchards and vineyards. A glorious way to discover Appiano and its surroundings in summer is to follow the itineraries that lead to the most beautiful and best preserved castles. For example, along the Appiano Castle Trail, a beautiful hike that offers spectacular views of the entire Isarco Valley, the Oltradige and the Bolzano basin. Starting from Castel Corba above Missiano, it leads to the most important castle in the region, situated on a rocky spur with a splendid view: Castel d'Appiano. The castle, built between 1125 and 1130 by the Count Ulrich II of Appiano, was one of the most powerful castles in the province in those days. Today it is cared for by the municipality of Appiano. Besides breathing in the history and stories of these ancient bastion walls, a visit to Appiano Castle should also be rewarded with a stop at the tavern there, where you can sample local specialities.

Aktivurlaub im Freien Die sanfte Hügellandschaft am Saltner Hochplateau ist die ideale Kulisse für sportliche Aktivitäten in der Natur: vom Nordic Walken über das Wandern bis hin zum Biken für alle, mit ihren nicht allzu großen Steigungen. Vom Schwimmen (siehe S. 14) bis hin zum Reiten. Speziell für Pferdenarren gibt es in Jenesien ausgiebige Möglichkeiten des Ausritts und zahlreiche Reithöfe mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten. Jenesien gehört zum Ursprungsgebiet der blonden Haflingerpferde und zelebriert diese Tatsache mit einem üppigen Reitangebot in der Natur. achhaltige Energiepolitik ist eines der Steckenpferde der Gemeinde Jenesien, die sich aufgrund ihrer Bemühungen KlimaGemeinde“ nennen darf und 2018 die ” Zertifizierung Klimagemeinde Silver“ und den European ” Energy Award für ihren besonderen Einsatz im nachhaltigen Umweltmanagement erhalten hat. Alle machen mit, das Energieteam im Rathaus, beraten vom Ökoinstitut in Bozen, aber auch die Kultur, die Weiterbildung, die Kinder- und Jugendarbeit und der Tourismus im dörflichen Gemeindegebiet, denn eines haben alle verstanden: Gegen die Klimaerwärmung arbeiten heißt die Lebensqualität der Bewohner*innen genauso wie den Wohlfühlfaktor der Gäste wesentlich steigern. Im Rahmen des Programms werden der Energie- und Wasserverbrauch gemeindeeigener Gebäude und Anlagen, das Mobilitätskonzept, die lokale Produktion erneuerbarer Energie und das Müllmanagement nach Nachhaltigkeitsaspekten analysiert und ständig verbessert. Dadurch hat Jenesien nicht nur den Ressourcenverbrauch drastisch gesenkt, sondern auch bei der Attraktivität unter umweltbewussten Gästen gepunktet. Denn die meisten Hotels, Pensionen und Bauernhöfe am Hochplateau sind genauso bemüht, bei der Unterkunft, Verköstigung und im Freizeitangebot Außergewöhnliches zu leisten, um die Natur zu schützen und von ihr zu lernen.

Die Lärchenwiesen am Salten Der Salten wird gern als Europas größtes Lärchenhochplateau bezeichnet. Es befindet sich knapp oberhalb des Dorfs Jenesien, auf 1.300-1.400 m, und erstreckt sich auf ausgedehnten Flächen am Rücken des Tschögglbergs, insgesamt auf rund 653 Hektar. Das Landschaftsbild ist geprägt von der Lärche, Südtirols zweithäufigstem Nadelbaum nach der Fichte. Aufgrund der Weidewirtschaft entstehen lichtdurchflutete Wälder bzw. wunderschön bestockte Wiesen, je nach Betrachtungsweise.

Die Lärche ist ein besonderer Nadelbaum, den wir in der Volksmedizin, im Handwerk und in der Landwirtschaft seit jeher nutzen. Vom Holz über die Nadeln und Zapfen bis hin zum wertvollen Harz – alle Teile der Lärche sind wertvoll. Ihre Besonderheit ist das immer wieder wechselnde Nadelkleid: Im Herbst verfärben sich die Nadeln orangerot und gelb, je nach Temperatur. Die Lärchenbäume leuchten, bevor sie ihr Kleid verlieren, als einziger Nadelbaum der Welt. Früher diente das Lärchenharz als Pechsalbe in der Wundheilung, war hilfreich bei eitrigen Entzündungen, Gelenksschmerzen und Erkältungen. Seit kurzem wurde das Lärchenharz in der 74

modernen Pflanzenheilkunde und in der Homöopathie wiederentdeckt.

Lärchenwald und Lärchenwiese gelten als Erholungsraum für Menschen. Natur- und Landschaftsschutz spielen in den letzten Jahren eine enorme Rolle, denn Lärchen schützen nicht nur den Boden vor Erosion und die Hänge vor Lawinen, sie liefern kostbares Holz, bieten Weideflächen und einen besonderen Lebensraum für Fauna u Flora.

Klar, dass die Lärche zum Symbolbaum dieser Gegend wurde und sich Mythen um sie rangen ... Wer die älteste Lärche am Salten, die Urlärche, besuchen möchte, findet das heutige Naturdenkmal am Malgorer-Salten in Nobls. Das genaue Alter konnte nicht bestimmt werden, ihr Durchmesser beträgt aber über 2 m, ihre Höhe 24 m. Leider wurde der Baum durch den Schneedruck der letzten Jahre stark beschädigt.

DIE LÄRCHE, EIN BUCHTIPP Nicht zufällig ist eine der Autorinnen in Jenesien tätig: Elisabeth Unterhofer ist gelernte Krankenpflegerin, hängte eine Ausbildung in Pflanzenheilkunde an und ihren Sanitätsberuf an den Nagel. Sie arbeitet heute als Referentin, hauptsächlich auf ihrer Lärchenwiese am Salten. Dort gewinnt sie anhand traditioneller Bohrverfahren auch Lärchenharz, das wertvole „Lörget“, und bringt unter dem Namen „LaRicina“ ihre eigene Pflege-Produktlinie heraus.

Zusammen mit der Museumspädagogin und Kräuterkundlerin Irene Hager hat sie 2019 das Buch „Die Lärche. Tradition & Heilkunde“ im Raetia Verlag herausgebracht. Il larice è una conifera davvero speciale, da sempre utilizzata nella medicina popolare, nell'artigianato e nell'agricoltura. Dal legno, agli aghi, alle pigne, alla profumata resina - tutte le parti del larice sono preziose. Ma la sua particolarità è data dall’abito sempre nuovo che indossa in ogni stagione: in autunno gli aghi diventano rosso-arancio e gialli, a seconda della temperatura.

Prima di perdere i suoi aghi, il larice, che è l’unica conifera nostrana a spogliarsi prima dell’inverno, acquisisce un particolare colore intenso e brillante.

Il bosco e il prato di larici sono considerati preziose aree ricreative per l'uomo. La tutela della natura e la protezione di questo paesaggio davvero unico sono diventate di massima importanza negli ultimi anni, perché si è riconosciuto come questi imponenti alberi non solo proteggono il suolo dall'erosione e i pendii dalle valanghe, ma forniscono anche legno pregiato, offrono opportunità di pascolo e un habitat speciale per la fauna e la flora.

The Salto larch meadows Salto is often considered Europe's largest larch plateau. It is located just above the village of San Genesio at 1,300 78

1,400 m, covering a total of 653 hectares. The landscape is dominated by larch trees, South Tyrol's second most common conifer after the spruce. The larch is a special conifer that has always been present here in Alpine folk medicine, crafts and agriculture. From the wood, to the needles and cones or the highly-prized resin - all parts of the larch are valuable. But its leitmotif is the ever-changing hues of its needles, which in autumn turn orange-red and yellow, depending on the temperature. Larch trees almost literally glow before they lose their mantle, the only conifer in the world to do so. The larch forests and meadows are instinctively seen as welcoming by people. Conservation and landscape protection have come to have enormous importance here in recent years. Not only do the larch trees provide valuable wood, offer grazing land and a special habitat for fauna and flora, they are crucial for protecting the soil from erosion and the slopes from avalanche.

Special exhibition about one of Bolzano’s most relevant dynasties. Thanks to the Tirolean line of the Medici-Habsburg family and the codiication of the fairs’ rules, Bolzano’s trade prospered rapidly and increased the wealth of the town.

In den Fresken von Schloss Runkelstein sind verschiedene Jagdszenen dargestellt. Die Ausstellung behandelt die Geschichte der Jagd von der Frühgeschichte bis in die Neuzeit, und sie umfasst den Fischfang, die Wafen und verwendeten Werkzeuge, auch wirft sie einen aktuellen Blick auf dieses Thema.

Sonderausstellung in zwei historischen Gebäuden der Stadt zur Geschichte der Tiroler Linie der Medici-Habsburg Familie. Sie brachte für Bozen mit der Kodiizierung der Merkantilordnung einen unerwarteten Aufschwung des Handels und schützte das Land mit der Reform der Landesverteidigung sowie dem Ausbau der Grenzfestungen im Norden erfolgreich vor dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg.

Negli afreschi di Castel Roncolo sono illustrate diverse scene legate alla caccia. Partendo dalla Preistoria, ino all’Età Moderna, la mostra afronta il tema della caccia in tutte le sue forme, toccando la pesca, le armi e gli attrezzi utilizzati, ma anche l’evoluzione delle leggi relative alla prassi venatoria e il punto di vista attuale.

La linea tirolese nata dall’unione tra i Medici e gli Asburgo portò a Bolzano, grazie alla codiicazione degli ordinamenti delle iere, un’inattesa crescita commerciale; inoltre, la riforma della difesa territoriale e l’ampliamento delle fortiicazioni salvarono il Tirolo da invasioni durante la Guerra dei trent’anni.

Ogni anno in agosto Bolzano invita a trascorrere una piacevole serata alla scoperta dei vini tipici della città. Lunedì 10 agosto, la città si trasforma in un suggestivo percorso di degustazione, lungo il quale si potranno assaggiare il prezioso nettare di Bacco delle diverse cantine vinicole cittadine. È inoltre l'occasione per conoscere di persona i produttori lieti di raccontare le loro storie. Il Consorzio di Tutela S. Maddalena sarà presente con i vini di punta S. Maddalena DOC. Einmal im Jahr lädt die Stadt Bozen zu einer ganz besonderen Weinverkostung im Freien ein. Die Besucher können sich am 10. August ab 18 Uhr anlässlich der Lorenzinacht edle Tropfen zahlreicher Bozner Winzer verkosten. Die Produzenten tauschen sich gern persönlich mit dem Publikum aus.

Das Freiwillige Schutzkonsortium St. Magdalena präsentiert die St. Magdalener Weine mit Schutzmarke.

Every year in August the numerous wine producers of Bolzano invite to a special Wine Tasting. Along the beautiful arcades of Via dei Portici.

On Monday, the 10th of August from 6pm to midnight Calici di stelle represents a suggestive way to taste the local wines, especially the autochtone St. Magdalener wines.

Transart è un festival di cultura contemporanea con appuntamenti in location insolite, creando un collegamento tra capannoni industriali di particolare interesse architettonico e afascinanti paesaggi di montagna.

L’edizione 2020 punta sui temi della forza primordiale, l’intelligenza artiiciale e forti personaggi femminili per coinvolgere il pubblico spaziando senza timidezza tra vari campi artistico-culturali.

QUIZ: soluzione da pag. 9 c) Chi ama le gite fuori città può facilmente raggiungere i 1000 e 1200 m in pochi minuti dalla conca di Bolzano. Lo permettono tre funivie che portano a San Genesio, sul Renon e sul Colle. Mentre la stazione a valle della funivia per il Renon si trova a pochi passi dalla stazione ferroviaria di Bolzano, e quindi in centro, la funivia sul Monzoccolo (Tschögglberg), con la sua stazione a monte nel paesino di San Genesio, parte dai pressi di Castel Roncolo, all’imbocco della Val Sarentino. La stazione a valle della funivia del Colle, invece, parte da via Campegno, a nord del centro. Questa funivia è stata il primo impianto di risalita a fune per il trasporto di persone realizzato al mondo (1908).
