REMINDER TO:

Teton Village Residents This fall in Teton Village bears have gained access to unsecured garbage and other attractants like grease, this has resulted in at least two bears being euthanized. When bears obtain human food, they may become aggressive, cause property damage, and pose a risk to human safety.

Virtually all scented items are bear attractants, including human food, compost, grease traps, beehives, pet food, livestock and their food, fish food, coolers, sunscreen, bug spray, toiletries, lawn care products, candles, and salt.

Teton County regulations require that:

Trash is stored in an Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) certified bear-resistant trash container or an enclosure that is designed to withstand intrusion by a bear. o Enclosures must also have a roof, hard-sides or chain link, and a latching mechanism for the door(s). Bird Feeders must be inaccessible to bears at all times of the year. There is no new planting of ornamental fruit bearing trees (e.g. crab apple). o Existing ornamental fruit trees must be harvested or fenced so fruit is inaccessible to bears. All attractants are secured in a bear resistant building or enclosure.
